I can't embrace the level of paternalism it takes for me to tell grown folks how to spend their money. And if the surrounding community wants this development so desperately for its jobs and infrastructure, who am I to stand in the way? On the other hand, there's too much evidence that casinos are an exploitative business model that feeds addiction and preys on people who can least afford it. All the lofty promises out of City Hall about what it can do for Richmond can't erase the reality of who's paying too steep a price.
