Streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, the reprise of the film’s protagonists, Akeem and Semmi, has been highly anticipated and long overdue. Initially released in 1988, "Coming To America" represents a comedic story of a young man’s journey from the fictional African nation of Zamunda to his search for love in Queens, New York. The film singlehandedly altered the perspective of the masses, casting Africa as a land of royal splendor, a grand departure from its historical characterization as a land of squalor and despair. By all accounts the film was a box office success and even earned two Oscar nominations.
