Former Leicester and David Prouty girls' basketball coach Sandy Nelson is enjoying the island life in Vinalhaven, Maine.
During Sandy Nelson’s 34-year coaching career at Leicester High and later at David Prouty, her girls’ basketball teams played their away games usually no more than a 30-minute bus ride from home and within a convenient distance of the other Southern Worcester County League’s towns.
“Road trips” have taken on a whole new meaning since Nelson became the high school girls’ basketball coach in Vinalhaven, Maine, a town located on one of the Fox Islands in the heart of Penobscot Bay and accessible only by boat.
