Wicked Local The Kelley family has had more than its share of hardship over the years, but they are also deeply grateful for a miracle that looked like it might never happen. Mary Jane had struggled with a rare blood cancer in the past, and by April 2019 she was in stage 5 kidney failure, undergoing dialysis three times a week. Her husband, Jerry, launched a frantic effort to get out the word that she needed a living donor for a transplant, but so far, his campaign had not worked. Then a stranger who lived just streets away stepped forward. The transplant, which took place in October 2019, was successful but recovery was long and difficult. Today, mindful of both her heath and the threat of COVID-19, their world is largely confined to a daily ride to Starbucks and the Captain Marden's food truck. Mary Jane is able to take small walks with a cane.
