Harvey Weinstein will remain in a New York state prison for at least 30 more days as his attorneys challenge plans to extradite him to Los Angeles to face rape and sexual assault charges.
At a court hearing in New York on Friday, prosecutors filed new paperwork that gives the disgraced producer until May 30 to challenge the extradition to L.A.
L.A. prosecutors charged Weinstein in January 2020 with four counts of forcible rape, four counts of forcible oral copulation, two counts of sexual battery and one count of sexual penetration by force.

A grand jury returned an indictment against Weinstein, 69, on those charges this year, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. Those sources described the indictment as a procedural move largely meant to avoid a preliminary hearing and preempt potential speedy trial issues in Los Angeles, where the COVID-19 pandemic has created a huge case backlog in the county’s courts, but it still brings Weinstein one step closer to a trial.
