police said just before 11:00 last night a taxi cab slammed in front of a parked car. gunfire may have been involved, and this is a very quiet, residential block, and at this point it's not clear what boat is expected to resume this morning. yesterday helicopters and dive teams with the coast guard spent hours searching for the 40-foot fishing boat. the captain of another boat reported seeing the vessel sinking, and rescuers found a life ring and a cooler and floating oil in the area. no one has been reported missing, and they don't know if anyone was on board at the time. john? >> reporter: yesterday. the boards gave away, and the man fell. the site's general contractor has already been fined far safety violation at the low avenue. police say the driver who caused this bus to careen into an apartment building has been issued a citation. eight people were hurt, and the hospital. three transit riders were assault ed in three different locations. the mentally ill and street criminals and drive. a car crash leads to a homicide investigation in rahway. >> reporter: we are on bedford, the scene of the accident this morning it all happened just before 11:00 last night, and let's show you the video of what police are investigating as a homicide. they say they got a report about a car accident and arrived to find a taxi that slammed into two parked cars at 1400 bedford street. one person in the parked cars was injured and one person was killed. gunfire may have been involved. it's not clear what the motive may have been but the union county prosecutor's office is now investigating the case again. it's a quiet, residential block. >> a lot of part-time woke up by the commotion with the flood of police swarming area. the union county prosecutor's office will release after finding debris last night, ilana gold with more. >> reporter: the coast guard had to call off the search last night, and the crews will be back on the water with the high tech equip. -- equipment. they will be trying to find the missing boat. >> reporter: rescue hospitallers teams were scanning above as crews were in the water. the search began around 4:30 in the afternoon when the captain of another boat reported seeing a vessel sinking. chopper 2 informs possession as the search ramped up. >> there's been a massive search underway, boat, helicopters for the coast guard and nypd aviation, new jersey state police, all searching. >> reporter: before sunset, they found floating oil, and after dark, the divers finished for the night, and they focused on the sonar that can see object in the water that the eye alone cannot. screen his fishing buddies watched -- ryan and his fishing buddies watch the the search go down. >> a guy and his wife saw the boat going down. it was too far out for them to see anything. >> it's tragic. there's nothing good about it. >> reporter: people reported seeing the boat sinking, and this morning, the crews will need to pinpoint the patrick's cathedral is nearly done. worker rest moved the scaffolding and put the finishing touches on the landmark church. every window was cleaned and each pew was removed and cleaned as well. cardinal dolan said it was essential. >> it was about pretty basic repair. in other words, if we didn't do it the safety of the cathedral was at risk. >> reporter: the the timetable was moved up for pope francis' visit next month. in addition to visiting st. patrick's cathedral, the pope will be attending a service at the 9/11 memorial & museum and will visit our lady queen of agenerals school rico, and then some strengthening still on saturday. still not hurricane thresholds as it races through the bahamas, and then further strengthen for florida by monday morning. one model has it riding the the coast and then doing the a u turn. that's plenty of warm water over the bahamas right now, and the concern is next week for florida and then possibly coastal georgia as well. right now erica is not going into this with a lot of energy, but we could clearly see strengthening with the storm. tis the season, and you know the drill. 84, less humid, and the northwest wind will continue to blow. what's great about that, every now and then, you can get a delightful breeze, and cooler for you, and the passaic out into morris or the hudson valley as well. tomorrow, you will see a few more to keep the fights as nonintrusive as possible. cell phone records and computer hard drives are not aloud. this judge will look at the postings and decide which ones, if any are relevant. >> looking at facebook will not show you anything. she takes a picture of herself at a restaurant, and the child is not in the picture that doesn't mean the child wasn't there. >> in fact, christine says the child was with her on many of the trips, and she will produce hotel receipts and plane tickets as proof you can't believe what you see on the internet. a new jersey housekeeper is under arrest accused of cleaning out more than just dirt. 51-year-old migcialla morales was arrested last week. police say she stole from some of her customers' homes. they found pieces of missing jewelry at a local police respond to a car crash that leads into a homicide investigation. janelle burrell has more. >> reporter: mary, we are getting more information from the manager of the cab company who confirms that the driver of that taxi was shot and killed while in the driver seat of his vehicle here overnight. we want to show you what the scene looked like earlier here on bedford street it started around 11:00 last night when police first got a report about a car accident. they found a taxi slam into two parked cars and the cab manager says it appears after the cab driver was shot in the head he accelerated and lost control of the cars, the woman inside one of the vehicles was rushed to the hospital. it's not clear her condition at this point. we can tell you the union county prosecutor's office is investigating. we expect more details later today. janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. surveillance video of two men in a white car in the riverdale section of the bronx. police say they are suspects in a murder. and jorge vargas was found shot to death yesterday in an apartment. he apparently did not live there. his address is listed in upper manhattan. also new a15-year-old stabbed in upper manhattan, and police have just released video of the attack. it was yesterday at 3:45 in the afternoon in the 500 block of west 148th street. the suspect approached the victim and stabbed him in the back several times before fleeing. this morning the victim is listed in stable condition. a developing story in new jersey, rescue crews are set to resume their search far missing fishing boat off the coast of sandy hook this morning. >> the search started yesterday afternoon after reports of a sinking ship. ilana gold has more. >> reporter: chris, the coast guard will be back on the water after dawn. last night crews spent hours searching out here, and they did find debris, but no sign of the missing boat. >> reporter: nypd divers went into the sandy hook channel as the rescue helicopter teams scanned the water from above, searching for the fishing troller. the search started at 4:30 in the afternoon when the captain of another vote reported sighing a vessel sinking. >> now there's been a massive search underway, boats, helicopters for the coast guard, nypd aviation, new jersey state police, all searching. >> reporter: rescuers arrived to find only small clues bobbing on the surface a life ring and cooler. and then they found oil that could have come from a boat in distress. they relied primarily on side scan sonar, the high tech tool that can see things the naked eye cannot. all the ambulances and everything, and then we started to see the boats and the helicopters out in the water. we talked to a guy and his wife who saw the bloat go down a fishing boat, but it was too far off to see anything. >> it's tragic. nothing good about it. >> reporter: so again, the search will start up in a few hours, and crews will focus 2 miles north of the peninsula. stock futures on the ride this morning, but it's no guarantee of what the markets will do today. the dow soaring hundreds higher, but at the closing bell, it was down 204 points, the losses at 1700 points over the last 4 sessions, and the s&p shed 25. a live report from wall street in a few moments. a colorado judge will formally sentence james holmes today. he was convicted of killing 12 people and injuring dozens more at a late night showing of a batman fill new mexico july 2012. he will be sentenced to life in jail without parole because jurors could not agree on the death penalty. a boy in virginia took his class and teacher hostage, and he surrendered after 2 hours. no one was hurt. he was taken to the hospital for mental evaluations. curtis smith slashed a sheriff's deputy with a knife yesterday, and he was shot to death by another deputy. it's not clear why he was at the pennsylvania courthouse, or what prompted the attempt. governor cuomo is sparring with the feds and the new york times over construction over a new rail tunnel. cuomo wrote to the times saying he supports the project but said "the primary obstacle is the federal commitment to fund the project" adding that the only option of a partial loan is not a viable financing plan. sources tell cbs 2 that cuomo was fired grant money, and he fired back in a call to cbs 2. >> i only wish that were true. we are now in a bureaucratic maze where the government says one thing and different governments say other things. the only thing they offered is a loan. thank you very much, but it's not enough. >> senator in a quiet residential neighborhood. janelle burrell is live in rahway with more. >> reporter: the manager of a cab company here in rahway telling us it was one of his drivers who was shot in the head and killed in his cab, and it was after what appears to have been a botched robbery attempt. look at this video. here's what the scene looks like overnigh. police were initially call to the scene after a report of a car accident here on bedford street, and it's a quiet residential street in rahway, and they found the taxi slammed into two parked cars, and it appears the driver was shot, lost control of the taxi, and that caused it to accelerate, and it caused the crash. we spoke to a coworker of the cab driver who was killed, and he asked not to be identified, clearly shaken by what happened. >> it's horrible. there's animals out there over a couple of hundred dollars, you're going to shoot a man with a family? disgusting. >> good guy, hard working guy, just trying to make a living. >> reporter: now a woman who was inside one of the parked cars was injured, and she was take tonight hospital. it's not clear on her condition. right now we are told the union county guard had to call off the search last night, and in a few showers. the crews will be back on the water, focusing 2 miles north of the peninsula to find the missing boat. >> reporter: the divers went into the channel as the rescue helicopter teams scanned from above searching for the 40-foot fishing troller. the captain of another boat reported seeing a vessel sinking. chopper 2 was in position as the search ramped up. >> a massive search is underway, boats, helicopter boats, aviation, new jersey state police, all searching. >> reporter: rescuers arrived only to find small clues bobbing on the surface. after dark, divers finished for the night, and the search relied primarily on side scan sonar. the high tech tool that can see objects in the water that the naked eye cannot. >> the ambulances and everything, and then we started to see the boats and the helicopters out in the water. we did talk to a guy who he and his wife saw the boat going down. >> it's tragic. there's nothing [ laughter ] >> reporter: if you're traveling this morning, an accident on the queens-bound lower level of the ed koch queens borough bridge. we make your way through the area, and moving on to the george washington bridge, and we have a disabled vehicle inbound on the the lower level, blocking the lane as well, and there's he has station as you make your way to the tolls there. and there's a 15-minute wait as you make your way to the lincoln and holland tunnels, and remember, be safe, don't text and drive. everything is on or close to schedule at jfk, laguardia and newark liberty. police are investigating the murder of a cab driver in a quiet residential neighborhood. janelle burrell is live in rahway with more. janelle? >> reporter: police are still looking far shooter at this hour, accused of trying to rob the cab driver, shooting him in the head, killing him while he was still in the driver seat of his vehicle, and we want to show you video of what the scene looked like here earlier, on bedford street a quiet residential street here in rahway, turned into a huge crime scene overnight, and police were initially call to the scene after a report of a car accident, but when they got here, they found the taxi slammed into two parked cars, and the cab company manager says it appears there was a struggle, and the gun was fired, and the driver was shot, lost control of his taxi, accelerating, causing the crash, and we spoke to the worker of the cab driver who was killed, and he asked not to be identified, but he said the driver was a family man, had a large family and worked for years as a cab driver to provide for his loved ones. >> it's horrible. there's animals out there, over a couple of hundred dollars, you're going to shoot the man with a family? disgusting. >> good guy, hard-working guy, just trying to make a living. >> reporter: police tell us a woman who was inside one of the parked vehicles was injured, and it's not clear her condition at this point. >> reporter: again, that cab driver was shot and killed in his vehicle overnight, and police are still looking for a suspect. we are expected to get an update later today from the union county prosecutor's office. from rahway, new jersey, janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. a developing story in new jersey, rescue crews are set to resume their search for a missing fishing boat off the coast of sandy hook this morning. it starletted yesterday afternoon after reports of a sinking ship. ilana gold has more. >> reporter: chris, the coast guard will be back on the water after dawn, and crews will try to pinpoint the exact location where the boat possibly went down, and last night divers spent hours out here, and rescuers scanned the water from above. they were called out here at 4:30 in the afternoon, and the captain of another boat reported he saw a vessel sinking, and crews did find clues, and they came across the floating oil that could have been from a boat in distress. we spoke to the people who saw the massive operation unfold. >> all the ambulances and everything, and we saw the boats and helicopters out in the water, and we did talk to a guy, a guy and his wife who saw the boat go down. it's tragic because there's nothing good about it. >> reporter: the coast guard had to call off the search last night because of the car and use sonar to look for something in those conditions, but nothing turned up. the search will start up in a few hours, and we will let you know what happens, live in sandy hook, new jersey, this morning, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> ilana, thank you. a 15-year-old has been stabbed in upper manhattan. police released video of the attack in hudson heights. it was yesterday afternoon in the block of west 584th street. the victim was stabbed several times in the back before the suspect fled. the teen is in table condition. also new this morning, the surveillance video of the two men in a car outside of an apartment building in riverdale. 39-year-old jorge virginia gus was found shot to death yesterday, and virginia gus -- and vargus apparently didn't live there. the index was down 204 points yesterday, the losses now at 1700 points over the last four trading sessions, and the nasdaq fell 19 points, and the s&p shed 25. asian markets were mixed overnight. another confrontation on the campaign trail for donald trump. >> excuse me, sit down. you were not called!
