He hit another car. That car hit another car. Reporter around 8 00 sunday night, investigators say the driver of the van was speeding down myrtle avenue in jersey city when it hit the silver car. Police say the van spun out of control and pushed the car into a driveway. The car striking and critically injuring a Jersey City Police officer that was standing on the sidewalk. The Chain Reaction accident sent car parts raining all across the street, leafing 12 people hurt. I was leaving 12 people hurt. I was shocked it was daylight kids were outside riding their bikes. There was a group of kids playing football when the accident happened. Get hit. They did not get hit. Amen. Reporter the name of the released. As for the driver of the minivan, witnesses say he tried to run from the scene but was apprehended by police. No word on charges. Im Janelle Burrell, eyewitness thanks. John, good morning to you. The shootings were part of a violent summer weekend city wide with at least 50 shooting victims. Three people were killed. Local leaders say theyre experiencing more gun violence in their communities and say the mayor seems apathetic to their concerns. Wheres our mayor . A minivan driver is in custody this morning, after allegedly speeding into a jersey city intersection causing a Chain Reaction crash. He left a Police Officer in Critical Condition and injured 11 other people. Janelle burrell is live in jersey city this morning with more. Reporter doctors right now are treating that officer here at jersey city medical center. Police telling us this all started last night when the driver of that minivan was barreling down the street. Losing control of his vehicle. And ending with that Chain Reaction crash that left the officer severely hurt. The crash caused a minivan to be scattered across the street, littered with debris after what witnesses described as a fast moving domino collision, started by this maroon minivan that police say had been speeding. Flying down. He hit another car. And that car hit another car. Malisa king watched it happen from her front yard and 8 00 sunday night the driver of the van was speeding down ocean avenue when it hit this silver car. Authorities say in april jan seski an oncology outside of pittsburgh shot a lion with a bow and arrow near a National Park without approval and on land where it was not allowed. Meanwhile the government of zimbabwe wants to extradite minnesota dentist Walter Palmer a dentist for killing a protected lion. Palmer says he relied on his local guides to ensure his hunt was legal. The surf was dangerous for long island swimmers. 100 people had to be rescued. And one man did not make it. Valerie castro has more from nassau county. Reporter first he was seeing help but once he got close to me, he said my brother is under water. Andre ribuloi, a water border was out on the beach when two swimmers were in a rip current. Eventually one man was pulled to shore and treated with oxygen. While rescue efforts continued. The u. S. Coast guard had a boat searching the choppy waters. The long beach Fire Department deployed a jet ski to quickly scan the water. And lifeguards linked hands to form a human chain and 45 minutes later, 23yearold Keyshawn Carlos from brooklyn was found. He did not survive. But his friend who was treated on the beach by emergency crews did. And ragouli says that survivor was very upset. It was pretty intense. I feel bad for the guy. He was pretty anguished. The long beach patrol chief says the water conditions were dangerous all weekend. The rip kurns were very bad. We must have pulled 100 people out of the water. And if you do get caught in a rip current, first dont panic. Let the current carry you out even if you are heading away from the shore. And tread water until the current subsides and then parallel to the shore before heading into the beach. Police say there was a second drowning death over the week. This time in west hampton. A 23yearold from brooklyn died at rogers beach. A small dog, apparently left to bake in a hot war in queens today is alive today thanks to the nypd. City hall in Lower Manhattan. Those Community Leaders are calling this a crisis. And they want the mayor to step in and stop the violence. They are especially concerned after nine people were shot at a house party. The Surveillance Video shows the suspect opening fire on the sidewalk, during a house party in East New York. And they shot and injured nine people on stanley avenue, early sunday morning, and police are looking for multiple gunmen linked to the chaos. What did you see . I see a whole bunch of people running but no direction, and way to run so some came up on me. Since friday, there are at least 25 shooting across new york city, with 50 victims. Three of the incidents deadly. One of the victims, 25yearold darnel smith. He was shot and killed inside a hallway at the glennwood houses in East Flatbush saturday morning. His mother spoke out at a stop the violence rally and pleaded for justice. Enough is enough. I am tired. But i am not going to let my sons death be in vain. Because they shot him down league a like a dog in the street and i am not standing for that. Community leaders say they experience more gun violence in the neighbors and claim the mayor has ignored their concerns. Where is our mayor . Meg, thank you. A Jersey City Police officer is in Critical Condition this morning, after a Chain Reaction crash that injured a dozen people. And police say it was caused by a driver who went speeding through an intersection. Janelle burrell is live in jersey city with more. Janelle . Reporter well, mary fellow Union Members of that jersey city officer asking for the publics prayers this morning. As that officer recovers here at jersey city medical center. He was the most severely injured of more than a dozen who were hurt. After that Chain Reaction crash. The crash caused a minivan to be scattered across the street, littered with debris after what witnesses describe as a fastmoving domino collision, it started by this marine minivan that police say flying down. Hit another car. That car hit another car. Malisa king watched it happened from her front yard. And investigators say around 8 00 sunday night, the driver of the van was speeding down ocean avenue near myrtle avenue in jersey city, when it hit this silver car. Police say the van spun out of control, and pushed the car into a driveway. The car striking and critically injuring a Jersey City Police officer who was standing on the sidewalk. The Chain Reaction accident sent car parts raining across the street. Leaving 12 people hurt. I was shocked. My heart was pounding. I couldnt believe it happened. All of the kids, it was daylight, kids outside, riding bike, a group of kids playing football where the accident happened. But they didnt get hit . Did not get hit. Amen. Reporter again, the officer, the most badly hurt. The others, the other 11 injured were told are stable this morning. As for the driver of that minivan, witnesses say he actually tried to run from the scene, but he was quickly arrested by police. Reporting live in morning, from jersey city, Janelle Burrell, cbs 2 news. Firefighters in brooklyn battled the dangerous blaze in brownsville yesterday. And rescue crews made their way through a residential building in linden boulevard. And a fire nervously watched as his wife and five children were taken out safely. We see everybody looking on here. And the whole building was on fire. The smoke was coming out of the window. Grabbing everything that we could grab to try to get out. The Fire Department says four people were taken to area hospitals. One with serious injuries. Murray says his children suffered smoke inhalation but are all expected to be okay. Now, to the legionnaires disease outbreak in the bronx. There are now 71 reported cases, and six more cases since saturday. And four people have died from the bacterial infection, and all of victims were older adults and had Underlying Health problems, and the town hall meeting to provide more information is set for tonight arts. This morning, police in new jersey continue to search for a woman who saw a small dog right from the owners driveway, it was stolen. And Surveillance Video shows her clearly walking up to the driveway in hackensack and the owner andrea waylog says she was heart broken when she realized her pomeranian diamond she saw exactly what happened. I want her to bring diamondback. Just bring her back. We love her. We have grown so attached to her. We just want you to bring her back. Diamond. Hackensack police have looked at the Surveillance Video of she left in. New video this morning, of a man rescued by the coast guard, after treading water in the Atlanta Atlantic hours. He went overboard and stayed afloat until sunday morning when another boat pulled him out of the water and the coast guard rescued him using the helicopter and took him straight to the hospital. No word on his condition. Meanwhile, another coast guard helicopter had to make an Emergency Landing right in the middle of a golf course. The chopper from the Atlantic City air station was experiencing mechanical issues when the four person crew decided to land at Richmond Country Club on staten island. Mechanics smelled something and setting up for a precautionary landing when they started losing onboard equipment and there. No one was hurt. Nypd officers scouring Flushing Meadows Corona Park after someone spotted an alligator there yesterday morning. Police from the 110th precinct released these photos of the search. No word exactly how big the alligator is or how dangerous it could be but police nicknamed him jaws. And the animals took to the Empire State Building saturday night. Giant images of endangered animals were projected on the southern face of the building. Miamidade until midnight. He is a former marine who served in iraq and the third memphis Police Officer shot and killed in four years. Last night, we lost not only an officer, but a great man. A dedicated servant to our community. And a family member. Willburn is still on the run but the driver of the car surrendered. He was released without being charged. A sudden storm leads to a tragedy at a festival near chicago. One man was killed. 20 other people injured. When a tent blew off its moarings and collapsed yesterday. Three victims are in serious condition. It happened in the city of wooddale 25 miles from chicago. Parts of the area were hit by a brief intense summer storm that brought high winds. And more than 36,000 cases of kraft singles cheese are being recalled. Because part of the wrapper could become a choking hazard. Take a look at these labels. The recalled products are three and fourpound boxes with a best when date between december 2015 and january 2016. They have manufacturing code s54 and s55. A minivan driver is accused of speeding into a jersey city intersection causing a Chain Reaction crash. Adozen people were hurt, including a Police Officer in Critical Condition.
