of a police officer is underway morning. police say 33-year-old officer shawn bolton was conducting a multiple times. he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. >> this is just a reminder of how dangerous this job is. you are talking about from what we know now routine traffic stop that results in an officer losing his life. >> bolton is the third memphis officer to be fatally shot since july of 2011. nearly 40,000 verizon workers will stay on the job without a new contract. the union representing workers from massachusetts to virginia threatened to strike if they didn't reach an agreement over benefits by midnight. instead, negotiations will continue. the unions want to keep verse from slashing jobs, eliminating the 401(k) match but the wireless carrier says the proposals are out of touch with today's job market. one man was rescued. another apparently drown in rip currents off long island. around 6:30, lifeguards and emergency crews pulled a man from the waters and gave him oxygen. another victim was pulled from the water but police say he was submerged for about an hour. they have not released his name yet. swimmers were told to get out of the water as the lifeguard's shifts ended. police say the two men went back in. a fourth person died from legionnaires in the south bronx. two more locations tested positive for the does including a mott haven building and a the health department says all five locations are now disinfected. there have been 65 cases in the boroughs since july. health experts say people get sick after breathing in water vapor from infected faucets or cooling towers. >> to prevent it from happening again, why don't we have regular inspections on cooling systems and water towers throughout the city of new york in the same way we do with elevators. >> a town hall meeting will take place tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. an african wildlife researcher is casting doubts on reports that sees sill -- cecil the lion was also killed. there were reports yesterday that his companion jericho was killed. but the researcher in zimbabwe said his satellite collar is sending normal signals indicating the lion is alive and moving around. a conservation group claimed that jericho was killed. cecil the lion and more than 150 other animals were displayed on the empire state building last night. the filmmakers behind the project called erasing extinction hopes the presentation will inspire a global conversation about the flight of endangered species. happening today, senator schumer will call for higher stran cards for stretch limousines following the crash of four women on long island. schumer said changes to limousines can make them structurally unsound. sometimes companies remove exits or add seats without side impact airbags. it's not known if those issues played any role in last month's crash. in health watch, young children with scoliosis have to deal with braces and surgery. a high-tech device is giving kids exciting new options. dr. max greenhouse gas by 2018 and comply by 2022. summer airfares can be steep. if you are taking off this fall, prices are falling. that's according to forbes magazine. the magazine says hopper, the airfare predictor april is predicting a steep decline in autumn airfare. they are expected to be 3 1/2 percent lower this year than last year and 8 peters lower than the year before. frequent fliers know airfare is part of the equation. airlines are charging for just about everything these days. a lot of people are willing to pay up for those perks. cbs 2's alex denis reports. >> from how long you are answers, a better in flight experience. travelers is willing to pay more to get more. 64% would like wi-fi with streaming capabilities. 50% would pay for in seat charging for their electronics. 22% would pay more to get off the plane earlier. early deplaning versus that process that is common. people like the idea of services that can make the entire experience a bit easier including a bag tag to track luggage in realtime. the chance to temporarily check luggage at the gate to spend long layovers without being tied to your bag and curbside rental pick up. it doesn't ask people how much they breaking news, a violent ending to a house party in brooklyn. shots rang out leaving at least a dozen people injured. >> cbs 2's ilana gold joins us with more from east new york. ilana? >> diana, nine people were shot during the house party on stanley avenue. this is by crescent street. there is a huge police presence in the neighborhood. they shut down several blocks to investigate. shortly after this happened at 2:30 this morning. police got multiple 911 calls. the problem started at a house party. there was a fight in the bark yard. that's when a group of men opened fire. 9 people were shot. investigators tell us the victims are men and women ages 19 to 38. bullets hit them in the arms, legs and neck. right now they are at various hospitals and all of them are expected to survive. police describe this fight as total chaos. they say the debris was flying everywhere and four others were hurt as a result. they have cuts, scrapes and bruises. and back out live, police are looking through in memphis, tennessee. police say shawn bolton was conducted a traffic stop when he was shot multiple times and died at a local hospital. >> this is just a reminder of how dangerous this job is. you island may have claimed the life of a brooklyn man as another swimmer was saved. around 6:30 last night, lifeguard and emergency crews pulled a man from the water. another victim, a 23-year-old man was pulled from the water. police say he was submerged for about an hour. his name has not been released. swimmers were told to get out of the water as the life guard shifts ended but the two men went back in. >> a. a bronx high school teacher was struck and killed by a car during a cross country bike trip. the driver admits she was looking at her cell phone at the time. 25-year-old patrick waningcof died thursday. another cyclist was also hurt. he taught for about three years at fordham high school for the arts. a jersey city teenager's life was cut short when he was hit by a stray bullet. the 16-year-old boy has given the gift of life to six total strangers. matt kozar has that story. >> reporter: 16-year-old ronald witherspoon junior dreamed of being an engineer. that dream and his life ended last week on the streets of jersey city. his family says he died from a stray bullet to the head. he was standing just 50 feet from his front door. >> it wasn't even meant for him. it was a drive-by shooting. and her husband are finding solace in the smiling photos of their teenage son, the eighth of nine children. there is something else giving them comfort, a certificate from the new jersey sharing network. >> through his generosity, other people live their dreams. >> reporter: the wither spoons agreed to donate 7 of their son's organs to six people. a 13-year-old girl received a kidney. a 35-year-old woman received intestines. another received lungs and three men received a kidney, liver and heart. the new jersey sharing network said they collected bone and skin tissues that will be used to help 50 people. >> it makes me feel good, especially when they said the 13-year-old girl. >> as dawn prepares for her son's funeral tuesday at the mount olive baptist the fdny foundation officially released the 2016 calendar of heros. the 13 new york city firefighters waved, signed autographs all for a good cause which we will get to in a minute. four of them join us live in the studio. we have mr. january, mr. march, mr. august, and mr. september. thank you for being here. so, mr. january, let me start with you, what has this week been like. >> exhausting. >> i need sleep. >> you need sleep. you guys are famous now. what has it been like for you. >> a good experience. get out there. people get our calendars. a good thing. >> before we get to the cause, talk about just the process for getting in the calendar. >> try out process. photo shoot. they will call you back if you make the first cut. then second shoot. they let y know. then it starts pretty quick. >> marty, this is your second time. >> second time. >> why did you want to be in it the first time. >> the foundation helps the fdny. help with fighting fires as well as educating the public. mainly [ indiscernible ] that's the cause, 100% of the proceeds go to the fdny foundation. talk to me -- tell me what firehouse you work at. >> engine 154 staten island. >> staten island. >> 246 brighton beach brooklyn. queens. >> tell me, what has been the feedback from the guys in your houses? >> good. really? they aren't giving you a hard time. they are analyzing everything that is going down then they will hit me when i come back to the firehouse real good. >> what about you? >> super l they are supportive but give me a hard time. blow it up and put it in the front of the firehouse. >> talk more about the fdny foundation. i mean, the calendar has safety tips and everything. why is it important for people to come out and buy the calendar in addition to seeing you guys, of course. >> safety related deaths are down to historic lows because of awareness, cpr training, they are getting out there and reaching people who really haven't been exposed to fire safety education and it's having a tremendous impact. the fire department is busy. however, fire deaths have been down and a big part is because of the money that is raised through the talent. it is giving the organization the opportunity to reach out to people and for someone who maybe couldn't afford a smoke detech tore, what to do during a fire. it had a tremendous impact. >> the fire department this year is celebrating 150 years. tell me why did you want to be a firefighter. >> my grandfather was a firefighter. always around a firehouse. we are a big family and we support each other and here for the city. >> marty, let me ask you the same thing. >> living the dream. also a dream of mine to be a firefighter. >> a firefighter as well. what about you. >> my father was a fireman. growing up around the firemen, same thing, camaraderie, great thing. >> are you single, married, helping you in your search, anybody want to answer >> very supportive. very proud. >> she might be sleeping. >> hopefully she has it on dvr. we appreciate yacht it. do you have any other time when people can see you or is that done for now. >> we are not sure. >> the big event was this week in time's square. >> right. >> what was that like to be waving to people in time's square like that. >> built pretty cool. >> like a rock star. >> would you do it again next year? >> it would be fun. >> what was the process like of shooting the pictures? each of these pictures is in front of a landmark. what was it like. >> interesting because you are in front of a camera and you are not used to it. thank god the photographer -- >> tougher
