cherry hill superintendent. it's over a history teacher who was suspended for making remarks about safety here in the wake of the school shooting that happened earlier this month. quite a few students have since come to his defense. yesterday morning, some of them gathered in the school auditorium to ask that the teacher be reinstated. followed up with a petition of about 500 signatures and here's one of the students that organized that petition. >> i absolutely thought something needed to be done in support of my history teacher. like i said, this man just meant too much for me to sit down and watch this injustice happen. >> reporter: students say they were threatened with suspension. and the cancellation of prom and a senior trip if they go through with a planned walkout this morning. we're also told that there's another walkout planned for mid-march. the day after the parkland shooting, the superintendent said that the concern was the primary focus of responsibility. and anyone, students, teachers, parents who have any concerns should address them with the principal or the superintendent directly. for now, i'm live here in cherry hill, matt deluca, nbc10 news. dozens of students are told it will not help their chance of getting in. in philadelphia, a 15-year-old student caught with a loaded gun in school faces charges. the student attempted to pass through a metal detector. police say that the student confessed to stealing the gun. no one was hurt. students at the florida high school rocked by this month's massacre will return to class tomorrow. teachers at marjory stoneman douglas high school returned yesterday. and under difficult conditions a symbol of hope appeared in the sky. take a look at this. this rainbow greeted the faculty and staff in parkland. you can see the colorful arch through the palm trees. above the police cars parked outside, the school in less than two weeks since a gunman opened fire inside the school killing two dozen people and injuring others. the school guard outside the school is giving an explanation plus president trump is saying what he would have done if he were in the officer's shoes. and an amtrak crash near the full kraft station near philadelphia. crews shut down the train to get passengers off the train safely. a crash sent three people to the hospital last night. first responders got the call just before 9:45, we're working to find out the condition of the people in those cars. and we're learning more about two people, including a philadelphia police officer found dead in a home in port richmond. police responded to the home yesterday. after the officer didn't show up for her shift. police also found a man's body in her house. neighbors tell us they can't believe something like this happened on their block. >> it's all owful. she's just a really nice person. >> i wanted to know what happened. it's a bit of a shock. >> police say the officer was a 14-year veteran of the force. the department has not released the victims' names. mayor pulaski with his defense wrapped up the cross-examination. the case will likely go to the jury tomorrow. it's 4:04, u.s. attorney general jeff dropping. it's dry from a live view of the kimmel center in center city. the temperatures are well into the 50s this afternoon. clear and cool this evening. it will be back down to the 40s this evening. look at the 20s this morning. lehigh valley and the suburbs and don't let that 34 fool you in south jersey. there are a few neighborhoods that dropped into the 20s. swedesboro and you'll have to bundle up more this morning than yesterday. but we've got a nice sunny start to the day. and sunshine is going to be around for the day. 30s for allentown, quakertown, atlantic city. middle 30s for philadelphia and wilmington. we'll all see sunshine to start with. you can count on that through the day. this is doppler radar and satellite. we're in the clear. not only this morning, there's nothing lining up to the west. no sign of wet weather, so the forecast is calling for a considerable warmup from the 30s to the 40s. here come the 50s for the afternoon. from philadelphia to the suburbs to lehigh valley, no sign any of clouds. bright sunshine and light wind today. a really beautiful look to the second to the last day of february. 30s to start with for delaware. and south jersey will be in the 50s with bright sunshine this afternoon. even the shore up to 50 degrees. so you'll need your sunglasses to get through the day today. but before the week out, you'll need your rain gear once again. umbrella, going up on thursday and friday. we've got a storm system that's going to bring a good deal of rain to the area. and hopefully strong winds as well. look at that, colder neighborhoods. kennett square, 38 degrees. look at sfriepring city in collegeville. warrington 38 degrees. and definitely have to bundle up more this morning than you did yesterday. but you'll also need your sunglasses. it's going to be bright sunshine all day. look at the temperatures taking off in the middle 50s. it's going to feel like the low 60s with the bright sunshine and very light wind. radar satellite shows we're clear at trenton, philadelphia, wilmington. nothing nearby. the next storm system that's going to come our way is out of texas. it's pretty clear but watch what happens the next couple days. wet weather starts to migrate our way. this is actually wednesday night at 11:00, you can see some showers to our south and southwest. by this time thursday morning. the showers are coming at us. and will start the day thursday. the rain will be moving in and then a rainy afternoon. and the rain continues through most of friday. that's going to bring our temperatures down. we'll have nice couple dry mild days before any wet weather moves in. thursday, the rain arrives with temperatures coming down and chilly rain falling on friday. but we'll be clearing out and driving out for the weekend. just stays cool for the first weekend in march. a closer look at that with 10 day on 10 in the next half hour. >> i'm glad that bill can sneak until a look at the weekend. "first alert" most accurate forecast in town. bill. >> yeah, the temperatures are still coming down, our skies are clear. that includes wilmington. there's a little bit of a breeze to make it colder. feels like at the freezing point in philadelphia. below freezing for millville and wilmingt wilmington. there's not going to be a lot of wind during the day but we will see a lot of sunshine. so the temperatures in 30s right now will have no problem warming into the 50s this afternoon. 56 in the suburbs, in philadelphia. the jersey shore a little cooler. up to 50 degrees. and the lehigh valley will be 55 degrees. for delaware, nice clear skies and look at the warmup that begins this morning at 6:00, 33. by 9:00 this afternoon, 43 degrees. when i'm back in ten minutes i'll break down your day hour by hour and show you how quickly the temperatures will climb in your neighborhood. but first, jessica boyington is watching your "first alert" traffic. >> thanks, bill. we're starting out around the roosevelt boulevard. cameras around 17th street it actually looks pretty good. and northbound and southbound side no problems or delays and no construction either. watching 95 moving through delaware. 11 minutes on the northbound side that's going to take from you 295 to 495, with speeds almost in the 60s. down here with this construction, p.a. turnpike. northbound side to midcounty tolls to about lansdale, watch for the construction project, vai and tracy. cameras mounted to septa buss could help the city crack down to illegal parking in bus zone. it's a growing problem according to septa and the philadelphia parking authority. nbc10's katy zachry is live for us in center city. katy, is this a big problem. >> reporter: well, vai, market street are lined with bus stops still it turns out people are not being deterred by signs like this that say no stopping, bus only. now despite this problem the city's parking authority is considering teaming up with
