Watching that for you and drive times, just an eight minute trip and speeds into the 60s. New from overnight police are searching for a person who shot two cars. Officers found eight shell casings on the scene. No one was hurt. The long and emotional process for survivors of the Florida High School massacre takes a major step forward this morning. Teachers will return to Margery StonemanDouglas High School for the First Time Since the mass shooting threw it into the national spotlight. And survivors and their families are sharing their outrage after investigators reveal an armed deputy stood by while students were gunned down in their Florida School last week. This is video showing School Resource deputy Scott Pederson. The sheriff says pederson could have done more to stop the gunman during his rampage. Devastated. Sick to my stomach. There are no words. Nbc 10s matt delucia joins us live in our digital operations center. The officers movements were caught on surveillance video. It is clear the School Resource officer could have done more to stop the shooter. That officer, Scott Pederson is off the job now. He resigned when he was informed there was an internal investigation into his failures. The sheriff revealed as the shooting unfolded pederson who was armed stood outside the building and never went inside to confront the shooter as 17 people were killed. Now people with loved ones who go toshocked. I dont understand why you cowered out of doing your job. Maybe they could still be alive if he had gone inside and tried to stop something from happening. Officers in our area vented on social media last night including this one who said this. You take the job knowing you can get shot and killed. Outgunned, yep, but youre a little more prepared to fight back than a school of kids. Ith chief in our area about what should have been done. And two officers under investigation as to how they handled previous calls to the suspects home. And later today First Responders on the scene of that Florida School shooting will speak to the community in parkland. As investigators continue to comb through the events leading up to the Florida High School massacre two things are clear. The admitted shooter showedapabe and no one in position of authority followed up on those signs. Among them a newly released 911 call he made back in november. The thing is i lost my mother a couple of weeks ago so im dealing with a bunch of things right now. You dont have any weapons on you right now, do you . No. Nikolas cruz called 911 to explain his side of the story of a fight between him. He got angry and began punching the wall of a home. The family said they didnt want cruz arrested at the time. President trump continues to expand on his ideas to protect students from mass shootings. And the president floated the idea of using federal dollars to identify and train teachers who are capable of carrying and operating a weapon. He also suggested offering those teachers a bonus in pay. His comments came after the head of the nra addressed the political conference. We want to hear what you think. Engineers are working to ensure what replaces 239 chestnut streets looks similar to the building the fire destroyed on sunday.
