it is a slushy mess. the plows have been moving through and it's been pushing water. when i say it was heavy, sticky, wet snow, you can see it's stuck to everything, including these electrical meters, the trees, and these light poles. when the sun went down, the snowfall sped up. heavy, wet flakes first piling up on the grass, then making a mess of lehigh county roads. >> i looked out, oh, man, look at all that. >> reporter: plows began work just as people headed out for dinner. >> we'll probably go home a little early. we have the kids at home, don't want to leave them too long in the snow. >> reporter: with main streets mostly deserted, it was a night to spend indoors. jill invited us into her house of metal works to dry out. >> nice and toasty in here. >> reporter: everyone came prepared for a jewelry design class. showing us how they use these hammers. they weren't as ready for the mounting snowflakes outside the door. >> i mean, we don't have a shovel. >> reporter: can't blame them, based on recent weather patterns. >> mother nature's been crazy. it's beautiful one day, next day snow. >> reporter: amber drove to visit grandma but decided to walk home as road conditions worsened. >> i live down the street here. i'll probably leave my car there and get it tomorrow. >> reporter: it has been a pain to shovel this stuff. it is so heavy and moving it around a challenge for people. all that slush, that's also a danger, because it may refreeze. you want to be careful out there. salt is your friend. >> team coverage continues in montgomery county. nbc 10's andrea kline thomas live in king of prussia in storm force 10. how are those road conditions looking? >> reporter: denise, good news, the snow has stopped here in king of prussia. take a look right now, leaving behind a couple of inches of accumulation you see. crews are preparing to clear this shorting center. many thought we had seen the last of those trucks, especially after the warmer weather we had this week. winter showed it sticking around a little while longer. in king of prussia, slush on the streets. more accumulation on the sidewalks, bushes, and grassy surfaces. >> i'm definitely over it. i just got off work. trying to get home safely before it gets really bad. >> reporter: the winter weather started this afternoon. it forced many people to break out their hats, gloves and scarves, layers they set aside this past week. >> it was 70, then another couple of days -- i'm not sure what that is. but i'm ready for it. >> reporter: on route 202, drivers are using caution. as temperatures dip, the wet pavement could become slick. >> what we need to do is have an extremely positive attitude. be careful. >> reporter: a good approach as we wait for the warmup that's on the way. >> i'll take that. maybe i can take the jacket off, know what i mean? >> reporter: back out here live, we're approaching 76 right now. while the snow doesn't seem to impact drivers too much where we are on the road, temperatures will dip and these wet roads could ice over. now first alert meteorologist sieve sosna looking at snow totals across our area, impressive. >> this fell in a few hours. if you napped around 5:00 and woke up around 9:00, you missed almost the entire storm. a lot of this fell in about three or four hours' worth of time. the jackpot zone in the lehigh valley, overachieving there. allentown 8.3 inches. walnut port 7.5 inches. 7 inches in hamburg. douglasville in berks county 6 inches of snow. northern and western suburbs made out well. green lane 5.5 inches of snow. greaterford 4.3. skippack 3.8. langhorne 2.5. in new jersey where we got the 1 to 3 inches of snow, a lot of that came in a very quick amount of time. ewing 3 inches. cherry hill 2 1/2 inches. the roads in south jersey got a little worse than expected because of that snowfall rate, coming down so hard that it cooled the surfaces. remember it was 60 yesterday. we still had snow sticking there. northern delaware, a little over 2 inches in most spots. this was the radar at 5:00. the snow just moving into the area. look what happens. fast and furious. and by 9:00, 10:00, it was over. so this is what you can expect here for the overnight hours. the snow is done. very sloppy travel north and west. untreated roadways will be slick. any treated surface will be fine. some of our warmest february temperatures on record are possible by the middle of next week. i'll have the 10-day forecast coming up. >> use the nbc 10 app to track the snow in your neighborhood. you can use the same tools on first alert meteorologist used by downloading the app. next on nbc 10, a growing problem. tensions boiling over during a town hall meeting to combat a deadly issue in our area. a fire quickly ripped through this home as crews took on mother nature and the raging flames. phillies made one big offseason move, signing carlos santana. he took the need for the first time. joel embiid, busy all-star weekend continues. he took part in the skills competition tonight in los angeles. give us some help! >> fired up neighbors demanding answers during this town hall meeting on the opioid crisis. lawmakers from around the state came together in elton's park to tackle the issue. it was packed as neighbors listened to possible solutions. we asked officials what they're doing on their end to address the opioid crisis. >> the supply of this prescription drugs is part of the problem. and so reducing the supply will reduce the level of addiction. we're also looking at limiting the number of days that a person can get drugs for after they leave the emergency room. >> the cdc says pennsylvania has the fourth-highest number of drug overdose deaths in the country. a woman in her 70s was found dead inside of a home that caught fire in philadelphia's fox chase neighborhood. firefighters were called to this home on murray road just before 6:30 tonight. the flames as you can see were intense. crews got that fire under control just before 8:00. two firefighters were hurt fighting that fire, but they're going to be okay. no word yet on how the fire started. next on nbc 10, the debate is back on again over our nation's gun laws. tonight, nbc 10 went to the philadelphia gun show to talk to people in the wake of the deadly school shooting in florida. from snow to shorts? yes, that's right. we have some of our warmest february temperatures ever recorded coming our way. wither that could make the bulbs come out of the ground and the trees start budding. at the central courthouse in broward county a rally demanding change to the nation's gun laws in response to the high school massacre in south florida on wednesday. >> if everyone can bow their heads in a moment of silence, please. >> the rally started with a moment of silence for the victim s of the deadly mass shooting at stoneman douglas high school. organizers are calling for what they say is sensible gun safety laws, specifically ban assault weapons, background checks at gun shows, and a national gun registry. some of the teens who say they're now living in fear. >> i'm here because i'm scared to go to school. i'm scared because this happened so close to home and i know so many of the victims. i'm here because enough is enough. >> miles away, 17-year-old joaquin oliver was laid to rest. a high school senior just one of those murdered. there are 14 more funerals planned for the coming days including for athletic director chris hixon, originally from the poconos, who died protecting students. the shooting sparked national debate about gun control and the best ways to keep students safe in school. we went to the philadelphia gun show in the northeast to see what folks there are saying. >> a lot of times when we have shootings like this, the liberals' immediate reaction is to ban guns. there's millions of law-abiding gun owners in this country and they're not the ones that committed that crime. >> people who seriously have mental illness problems, which has shown out on a lot of those shootings, shouldn't have access to a firearm. >> we protect our money at banks with guns. we actually in the prisons, we're protecting prisoners with guns. our precious children are in gun-free zones? let's start arming the teachers. >> the philadelphia gun show continues tomorrow at the national guard armory. it was an action-packed saturday night on the slopes for team usa. the giants slalom and ski slopes styles medal events are taking place right now. ted leggy is team usa's best hope for a medal in giant slalom. after the first of two runs he's not in the top ten, making things less hopeful as he heads into the final race. sochi silver medalist gus kenworthy laid down a strong run, despite breaking his thumb three days ago. he had to duct tape his pole to his hand. nbc10.com, find the latest medal count, plus what's streaming right now and the latest olympic news. first alert weather, heavy, wet snow and freezing overnight temperatures. here's a live look from the poconos and the lehigh valley. two of the hardest-hit areas. it's up to 8 inches of snow today. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist steve sosna shows us what's next, including that big jump in temperatures. >> that's right. that is coming our way next week. but for tonight we're continuing the first alert and the reason why, the snow is over but the leftover snow and slush, especially your secondary roadways, neighborhood cul-de-sacs, places like these, will still be slippery and trech rules overnight tonight. any of the sidewalk that haven't been shovelled. if you're not in good health and you've got 5, 6 inches of snow, don't shovel the show on your own. this is heart attack snow, so heavy, wet, and soppy, it's hard to remove. it clogs up your snow blower, it's a big pain. we'll start melting tomorrow. if you only have a little bit of snow, the sun will melt it off. we also have snow totals on our digital content places like the website and the app. a live look at center city. the pavement is just wet here. not a lot fell in center city per se. but just around the edges, we did see some of that snowfall accumulate. even in south philadelphia. i-95 was a real mess there for about two hours. before and afterwards, it improved. down in wilmington, you saw the snow here. again, conditions improving now on all of those treated surfaces. so today's highs actually made it up into the lower 40s. that's why we felt that it was very hard to get that snow to stick on some of the streets inside and around the city. it came down at such an intense rate, upwards of 2 inches per hour, it chilled the sidewalks. you had a little bit of greasy accumulation there. so a live look at the radar earlier on today. and then within six hours, the storm was gone. and that was our only taste of winter in the next ten days. if you are traveling here tonight, it is presidents' day weekend. getting on the roadway, if you're headed up toward the new york metro area, up towards boston, they're getting half a foot of snow. the north east is getting clobbered by a small but potent system. up to 33 in philadelphia, good news. 32 in blue bell. we'll not see a rapid drop in temperatures tonight. the reason why, we have a good deal of clouds out there. we also have a breeze. so that will prevent temperatures from plummeting which will prevent our temperatures from going down too fast and having that icy formation form. philadelphia, here's your temperature trend by tomorrow. notice we get the sunshine up and the melting already begins. 44 by 1:00. 46 there by 3:00. our afternoon in the neighborhoods tomorrow will be beautiful. sunshine from start to finish. and what a jump in the temperatures. it will almost have a feeling of early spring. 10-day forecast. fit doesn't feel like spring tomorrow, how about monday. 54, maybe some afternoon sprinkles on presidents' day. and then this is the record stuff we're talking about. 74 on tuesday. 78 on wednesday. then we cool off but well above average for the rest of next week. unbelievable stuff. another update tomorrow with crystal clyde starting at 5:30. >> you can get instant updates and alert on this the nbc 10 app. you can track the big jump in temperatures and what your neighborhood will see. marshall harris from nbc sports philadelphia. joel embiid plays in his first all-star game tomorrow. tonight he competed in the skills challenge. this features dribbling, passing, lay-up, and three-point shooting drills. embiid came from behind to win his first match against the celtics' al horford, but lost his second-round match to chicago's lauren marken 9. expensive din woody won from the net. villanova avoids losing consecutive games for the first time in five years, 95-79 your final. the phillies' biggest offseason acquisition, carlos santana, worked out today for the first time. john clark was there. >> carlos santana hit a few out of spectrum field on his first day. he has averaged 26 homers, 102 walks over the last four years. he brings pop and plate discipline. >> translator: it's kind of like cleveland, and can i hit that?
