An and shooting outside the correctional facility in northeast philadelphia. Randy you got an update about the guard injured during the incident. Tell us about it. Reporter yeah. We just learned that the corrections officer is now out of the hospital after being injured in this assault. His car nearly stolen in the parking lot here of the correctional facility. This is the facility in northeast philadelphia. An inmate who was just released minutes earlier decided to rob and assault the guard just getting out of work. We were over the scene last night around 11 00. Police say the newly released prisoner being held on a probation and weapons violations attempted to steal the car of the offduty officer, a scuffle broke out. The officer was knocked to the ground according to police. Thats when police say the guard shot the justreleased prisoner in the chest. That prisoner identified as a 26yearold ja mall bennett who remains hospitalized in critical condition. According to union the corrections officer is a 66yearold officer who has been a guard for 27 years. Philadelphia police are investigating the shooting. Seems like he was starting his life of crime over again within minutes of being released. Attempting to carjack this offduty correctional officer. It is somewhat bizarre. Reporter police say the guard was off duty at the time, and the weapon he used was his personal firearm. Meantime, that justreleased inmate has a long history with police. Hes been in custody at least seven times since 2011. Nbc 10 news. New this morning, investigators are looking into the cause of a row home fire. Firefighters responded to the house here at paul meadow and east bristol streets after a call for smoke in the basement. Medics took the victim in his 40s to the hospital. Working to find out more about his condition. On a lighter note this morning, heres a live look at the olympic flame in pyeongchang, south korea. A gold medal figure skater from the host nation lit the cauldron last night. And what an Opening Ceremony. South korea welcomed the word with artistry, technology and elegance. Thats through 2 p. M. In the afternoon. This is why a flood watch is now in place across our entire viewing area with the exception of suffolks county, delaware. You get enough heavy rain over a small period of time, and you may have some street flooding or creeks that start to swell. Temperatures near 60 degrees on your sunday. The rain starts to move out about 6 00 p. M. Were left with just a good bit of rain by the time everything moves out. Look at the amounts. This is just one model projecting around 3 inches along the corridor. 2 to 3 inches widespread. A little lower than most northern and southern portions. Models have kind of wobbled on who who sees the highest amount . Is it our new jersey neighborhoods, into the suburbs. 2 or 3 inches around the viewing zone. Thats enough for some of the flood concerns. A 135 advantage is held even though the state has more registered democrats. Heres a look at the new map under consideration. It splits fewer districts than before if governor willing, a democrat does not approve a new map by next thursday, the high court will come up with one of its own. This morning Philadelphia Police are apologizing after buses loaded with officers literally blocked views of the super bowl parade. Three buses pulled up just as the eagles bus was pulling up on thursday. Heres a little bit more cell phone video of the incident. Police worked the parade route appear to be confused. At one point the crowd started chanting move the bus. They t fans said the moment was practically ruined that theyd been waiting for. Waiting so long, and they pull up and block the view. All of our neighborhoods are now above freezing. This is an area wide deal. Were just talking rain in the forecast. Take a look at the hour by hour model. Throughout the morning hours, a few isolated light rain showers. The main event is between noon and 2 00 p. M. Is when the rain starts to spread. This model is updated since a couple of hours ago. Its giving heavy rain pocketing into the forecast. I think its a possibility. Look at the temperatures too. Were already in the low 50s here at 2 00 in the afternoon. Theres some of the pockets of heavier rain through new jersey and delaware. This gives us a break around 6 00 p. M. Or so. When you see this break, dont think oh, the is over. It has only just begun. We have all the all of sunday. And look at the temperatures overnight. Were still around 50 at midnight. Steady rain passes through. And this is a big concern. Between midnight and 8 00 a. M. , heavy rain drives in. And watch how long it sticks. Along the i95 corridor, a. M. Through 2 00. Still with this heavy rain. When you have six hours worth of pockets of heavy rain, thats when some of the flood concern comes into play. And thats what were watching with the flood watch thats in place. Temperatures are going to be near 60 degrees. Its going to be mild out there and much of the rain starts to exit by around 6 00 at night. Again, that means were talking more than 24 hours of steady rain across the region. Look at the totals as the result. Models around 3 inches along the i95 corridor. Extending north into some of the pennsylvania suburbs and into Mercer County as well. These are the areas where the flood concerns are probably the highest. Particularly for the swelling of creeks and any lowlying roadways nearby. The amounts are high. 1 1 2 to 2 inches near allentown and south. Today 50 but tomorrow 60 in philadelphia. Both days rainy.
