Jason ortiz was shot and killed last night behind the dunken do these are brand new sur photos from police of the gunmans getaway car. Two men left the boy for dead behind the donut shop and drove away. Jason ortiz cameron is a freshman and today the high school opened its doors to allow the friends to come together and grieve. Police are looking for the shooter and any witnesses. He was 15 years old and a freshman at this high school. Haefs funny guy who loved music. He was with ortiz wednesday night when a drug deal turned deadly. Jason anden an older friend were planning on robbing some guys during a drug deal behind the local dunkin donuts. The District Attorney says three or four guys pulled up in this car. One of them had dread locks after argue iing with the teen someone shot him and drove off. I called his mom to let her know it hurt. A day later ortiz friends and family are left shocked by the sudden loss. He was there and now hes gone. I was just talking to him. Skyler had known the teen since middle school. She came with her sister to join other student in mourning. I just went numb. I dont believe it. But you have to accept it. The girls say they will remember the teen not because of how he died but what he liked to do when he lived. He was a good rapper. That was his favorite thing to do. Reporter the District Attorney says they have multiple investigative teams working on the case. They are encouraging anyone to come forward sooner rather than later and be treated as a witness. Nbc 10 news. This just in. Police say the 11yearold girl who died during a scleepover yesterday pass ed away from natural causes. A neighbor found the girl unresponsive at a home along angus place in northeast philadelphia. The girl was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police say the criminal investigation is closed and that it will be up to a medical examiner to try to determine what led to the girls death. The deep freeze posed an extra challenge for philadelphia firefighters battling a fire in an abandoned church overnight. The flames broke out in our lord parish. The water used to fight the flames quickly turned to ice. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. The Vacant Church has become a Gathering Place for the homeless. They were moved to another building. New details about a fire that burned last night. Earlier this morning we learned a woman was found dead inside her apartment. The red cross is working with nearly three dozen other neighbors to report. Theres a new warning from the irs that prepaying your property taxes might not help on your tax returns. Some homeowners are rushing to prepay 2018 property taxes before a law signed by President Trumps tax cut bill takes effect. But. The new warning from the irs says they are only deductible if the property taxes are both assessed and paid in 2014. It caps the local taxes you can deduct from your federal return at 10,000. That means if people pay more than that in property taxes, you can benefit by paying more tax in 2017 when theres no limit on that deduction. But it puts people in new jersey at a disadvantage because they have the highest property taxes in the nation. Investigators say officers shot and killed a man last night after he drove off from a traffic stop. New developments, a lot of lingers questions. Last night nbc 10 was there as car sirens wailed following a vehicle stop, a series of crashes and a deadly shooting by police. This neighbor watch ed it all ed around 9 00 last night. I said, pop, and he shot him. Reporter today police spelled out their version of events. They say undercover officers stopped the driver of this 2013 honda because the car and the license plates matched what witnesses saw at the scene of a murder here on atlantic street in Port Richmond last thursday. Police tell us that the plain clothes officered approached the honda and sped off hitting one of the officers and slamming into parked cars. The car came to a rest about a block away. The driver jumped out. After repeated commands to show his hands, he makes an abrupt movement and officer fires one shot. Reporter that one bullet struck the man in the head and he died at einstein medical center. But he was not connected to the homicide here on atlantic street. The honda he was driving was registered in someone elses name. Whats more, police did not find a. Weapon either on the street or in the car and a man was not wanted for any serious crime. That this particular point he didnt have any outstanding warrants or any felonious offenses. Police say the department now wants a transparent and comprehensive investigation into all of this. It will be led by the District Attorneys office. A female passenger was also in that honda not seriously injured and the undercover officer who was injured last night is expected to be okay. On tuesday police shot a man after he rob bed a deli in west philadelphia. He led police on a chase before crashing near 49th and walnut. They opened fire after he refused to cooperate and reached for his waistband. Police say they are still zirge isearching for a gun. New details in the investigation into the shooting in harrisburg. The gunman had no known links to terrorism. Police killed the man last friday after he shot at police at three locations in harrisburg. There were a number of gunshots fired near the capitol prosecutors say theres no evidence the gunman had any grudge against the police. We believe he acted alone. And we believe theres no further threat. Friends and family told police he was depressed about money problems and lack of contact with his family. A state board met today and officially certified doug jones the winner of the december 12th election. Jones is the first democrat to win a senate seat since 1992. This little area of snow is not going to be affecting us. But this area in montana is going to be racing this way. Its call ed a clipper system. Has limited moisture. It does look like its going to be affecting us on saturday. Through the night tonight, notice temperatures holding steady. Then the wind diminishing a little bit. It wont feel quite as cold tomorrow morning as it does right now. Tomorrow afternoon, temperatures are still not going anywhere. But at least it wont be windy. Tomorrow night, temperatures not changing much. On saturday, here comes the snow. Theres 9 00 or 9 30. The snow is starting. The dark er the blue color, the heavier the snow. Were not seeing any dark blues with this. Its not pulling in atlantic moisture. Its possible as the system gets to the coast, it could strengthen a little bit and get more snow in ocean county and in Atlantic City than we do in the inland areas. You see temperatures down to 20s. Reporter the only thing better than this view behind me is seeing it from the south jersey side. The river rink is one of the prime locations to watch the fireworks on new years eve. But we got closer this morning as the crew works on the show a day earlier because of the cold weather. Thousands of fireworks, a lot of foil, wiring and about a dozen workers. All on one barge. Pyrotechnics gave our cameras a behind t sathescenes look at fireworks shows along the delaware river. Sun is out. Just not feeling the warmth. Reporter the crew is work earlier to avoid the threat of frostbite. The pockets of ice are reminder of how cold it is at the pier. Its cold enough. Reporter this crew came prepared. First they showed us a box of hand and foot warmers they plan to use. Hopefully enough to keep them all warm. They say they last 12 hours so well put it to the test.
