morning. i'm meteorologist krystal klei. let's take a look at the rest of the day. chance of rain does continue through about 8:00 tonight or so, which means on/off rain showers mostly in the light to steady form. we're not talking any heavy thunderstorms, anything like that, you see the temperatures pick up into the mid and upper 50s in philadelphia and low 50s for the pennsylvania suburbs. but, again, same deal, rainy conditions throughout. lehigh valley upper 40s, i think low 50s will be the cap highs that we see. for delaware 58 degrees at 2:00. about the same in new jersey as well as the jersey shore where it's a bit breezier as well. let's run through your last-minute shopping forecast. today, we're going to go in the orange because it's showery, roads are wet, that means slower travel time. a little snow/rain chance mixing early monday morning your christmas as well, the rest of the day looks pretty good and cold. we'll talk more about that with an hour by hour forecast earlier ruling from the supreme court. the earlier ruling found the president seemed to exceed his authority in september. the policy limits visas of citizens of six mostly-muslim countries. earlier this month the supreme court issued a temporary order that allows that ban to remain in place. a piece of the lehigh valley is now at the vatican. the alan organ company installed a new organ in st. peter's basilica just in time for christmas eve mass. the company has been producing organs in pennsylvania for more than 70 years. this week's wednesday's child is sponsored by mealey's furniture. holiday season and maybe you can help make that a reality. nbc10's vai sikahema introduces us to jamira, this week's wednesday's child. >> spread it all out, nice even. >> reporter: since 1889 bakery really opens up. >> reporter: jamira is a great student, loves school and loves to sing. she also loves to read, but in her own way. >> i do like reading, but sometimes like our teacher wants us to read in our head and i can't understand sometimes things in my head. >> you're better reading outloud? >> it's better hearing it. >> reporter: she needs a forever family to reach her goals. she's open to a two-parent family, but in her mind -- >> well, i always wanted like a family just with one parent. and, well -- >> mom or dad? >> a mom. because moms -- i would like a father too, but then why i say mom. moms understand daughters more, females and females understand each other more than males. >> reporter: oh, yes, we know, jamira, this week's wednesday's child. >> if you would like to make jamira's dream come true or the dream of any wednesday's child go to nbc10.com and search wednesday's child. you can also call the national adoption center at 1-866-do-adopt. all right. let's shift gears now. look at radar and satellite. first alert radar and satellite view, we've got rain over the area. now, the steadiest rain has been consistently falling along the i-95 corridor north and west. particularly as you get into the suburbs, bucks, montgomery and chester county all the way up to lehigh valley and berks county. if we take a closer look, that's the area where we see a few pockets of a bit heavier rain in berks county, moving over reading and this will continue to track so may hit parts of limerick, milford before exiting our viewing zone. light spotty showers will continue into the afternoon as well, but the best rain is farther north. 58 degrees, that's the forecast high for today in philadelphia. that is a mild forecast. average would be low 40s for today. this is not a bad forecast for us. 60 in south jersey and delaware at best. so these numbers all thanks to a southwest flow, pumps in warmer air and we see those temperatures go on up for today warmer than average. no worry of any icy spots or anything like that with this rain. let's go through the hour by hour. so there you go, that's 1:30 in the afternoon. still the best chance of rain north and west. drier farther south. we do have a secondary line that pushes through about 5:00 p.m. it starts to the north and then it passes through philly and it's out of here off the shore by around 8:00, 9:00 tonight. so tonight south jersey and delaware will get their own dose of heavier rain, but then it's out of here this evening. and we dry out as we go into your sunday. so sunday's going to be a better travel day for folks because we stay dry all day long. that's through 7:00 in the evening. overnight sunday though check this out, this is right near midnight. we've got a little system that's going to clip on through here, so we've got a chance of snow throughout pennsylvania suburbs, lehigh valley, berks county, possibly a little rain/snow mix all the way down to philadelphia, briefly about midnight to say 3:00 a.m. there it is 3:00 a.m. though and already this is starting to exit on your christmas morning. so by 6:00 a.m. everything is dry. 8:00 a.m. you're getting up and ready maybe to go see family. you will have dry conditions, but there could be some slick spots from that early morning snow north and west. so not a lot of snow by any means. maybe inch or two at best mostly collecting on grassy surfaces. let's talk about your christmas weekend forecast. saturday, sunday, just showed you today warm and wet, there's your sunday, 44 degrees and dry but cooler. and then 38 only monday. that chance early in the morning and then we will have a drier forecast. and now let's wrap it up here by taking a look at that hour by hour forecast for your christmas eve. this is tomorrow night. 4:00 we're at 43 degrees and we keep on cooling down from there. by about 10:00 p.m. on christmas eve that's when that chance of a rain/snow mix starts to pick up and linger into the early hours of your christmas. we'll go through that hour by hour on christmas day in the next half hour. thank you, krystal. oprah winfrey has a warning for her fans. >> it's a fraud, it's a fraud, it's a fraud! >> we'll tell you what has the american icon singing the cry of fraud, what to watch out for coming up. and a historic tradition continues. see how school kids kept the famous reenactment from getting canceled. back in a moment. holiday tradition saved by the work of philadelphia school children. the annual christmas day reenactment of george washington's crossing of the delaware river, it had been called off this year. but nbc10's george spencer found out it's now back on thanks to boats the children built by hand. >> reporter: for years now every december 25th this reenactment of general washington crossing the delaware river has brought the revolutionary war to life. this video from last year shows it's part family fun and part history lesson. but this year the river posed a problem. the waters here in bucks county are so low traditional boats can't cross. >> they had told the public it wasn't going to happen because they didn't have the boats to enable it. >> reporter: that's where nicholas pagan's group philadelphia water born stepped in at the very last minute. pagan works with students at local public and charter schools to build their own boats by hand. boats which happened to be flat bottomed, perfect for this year's low river levels. >> the more traditional craft the keel would come down like this. >> reporter: so it's a lot shallower here on the bottom side. >> the water will probably only come up to about here. >> reporter: six of the school children's hand built boats were brought here to the site of washington's crossing, the christmas day reenactment back on and a major lesson learned for the students. lawrence jones is principal of richard allen preparatory charter school, the first school to enter the water born program four years ago. >> ultimately what it does is it shows students that education actually allows you to create things that are real and productive for the community. >> reporter: indeed during the summer months anyone is invited to paddle waterboard boats around the schuylkill, but pagan says taking part in annual christmas history puts their work on a bigger stage. >> it's fantastic. and part of the reason i picked boats is that they are so central to the entire history of the city of philadelphia. and this brings us right back to that starting point. >> reporter: reporting in bucks county, george spencer, nbc10 news. >> a job well done. >> it's fine, honestly, it's fine. >> are you sure? because you're acting kind of -- >> dude, we're cool. i've moved on. >> you know, i didn't even want to get thrown. >> okay. >> seriously, i was just minding my own business sitting in the bleachers. >> you literally slammed into my face. >> you were literally the worst santa i've ever seen. >> honestly, surprised they didn't throw you harder. >> okay, so what's that conversation all about? some quick background here. philadelphia sports fans have been getting a bum rap for a very long time, and a big example people point to happened nearly 50 years ago. and it was 1968 at franklin field during the christmas themed halftime show birds fans as you recall pelted santa claus with snowballs. but now the eagles, which you just saw a moment ago, brought together santa and a snowball to try and bury the hatchet. what's going to come of that? we don't know, but we know the eagles fans are tired of getting that bum rap and hopefully this commercial will help bring some sense of peace. with that said let's go ahead and check our forecast. not much in the way of snow showers today, but meanwhile let's also talk about shopping this morning, it is crunch time for holiday shoppers before we get to the forecast, that means local malls and stores will be packed this weekend. and nbc10's randy gyllenhaal is live in cherry hill covering the gift buying bonanza. good morning, randy. >> reporter: yeah, you're running out of time, but you're definitely not alone. take a look already not even 9:00 a.m. here and we've got crowds at the kohl's, the cherry hill mall opened earlier. coming up next, crowds we're seeing and numbers of last-minute shopping next. all right. if you're one of those last-minute shoppers little rain on the board for your saturday. sunday is cooler and then christmas day. we're going to look at that christmas forecast coming up hour by hour and the details on what to expect in the weeks following christmas. super saturday. the holiday shopping season is about to reach its peak as christmas is now less than 48 hours away. we're in for rainy and mild saturday, but things will change before christmas eve arrives. see what was inside a backpack placed outside of a bucks county school. good morning. i'm dray clark. welcome back to "nbc10 news today." we're just coming up on 9:00 on this saturday morning. it is a soggy saturday around the area as we take a live look at lincoln financial field from our eagles nest camera. it will be rocking on christmas as the eagles take on the oakland raiders, but for the moment it's just a big old empty wet bowl. let's get a check on our weekend weather with meteorologist krystal klei and your most accurate forecast in town. krystal. >> and, dray, i'll tell you what, befofor the eagles game i going to be cold out there. right now it's mild and we've got just rain on the map because of temperatures all above freezing across the region. so a look at first alert radar and satellite shows us it's mostly light rain showers, kind of spotty in nature parts of south jersey and delaware. and then we've got steadier rain as you move farther to the north, berks county, lehigh valley, upper parts of the pennsylvania suburbs like bucks and montgomery county, you guys have been seeing the rain better off for the last several hours. lots of more rain where that comes from. take a look at how big this system is. we've got activity all the way out to about st. louis and stretching all the way down to louisiana. now, there are some thunderstorms associated with this. i don't think that's going to make it to us. we'll just get the rain for today. there's some snow associated with it. that certainly won't make it to us. we are on the warm side of this storm. which means we'll see temperatures go up today. we're currently 46 in philly, 43 pottstown, a.c. at 52 degrees. later today a few of us could see 60s. we'll talk more about your saturday forecast and beyond into christmas day coming up. thank you, krystal. well, stores are open around the clock this weekend to help out all of those people who left their christmas shopping until the last minute. and nbc10's randy gyllenhaal is live at the kohl's in cherry hill where, randy, you have seen a bunch of shoppers out there this morning. >> reporter: you know, dray, last-minute shopping is pretty tough. you got no time. there's all sorts of pressure. you could get some chocolate, that's kind of generic. how about a robot vacuum? maybe a bit too expensive. we have a good idea, how about eagles gear in time for monday night's game? that's a big hot seller for last-minute gifts. lots of eagles paraphernalia they can wear for the game on monday night. last-minute shoppers, you're not alone. the national retail federation says more than half of all shoppers still plan to buy something today or tomorrow. in fact, only 12% of american consumers have already finished their christmas shopping. >> fingerlings for my kids, they're really big into that. a lot of eagles stuff. >> reporter: any "star wars"? >> "star wars," i bought something "star wars" for my nephew, so, yes. >> reporter: "star wars" stuff pretty popular as well. that same survey by the way noted that most americans actually bought online this year, but at this point in the shopping season it may be too late to get a delivery by christmas where you can expect lots of crowds today at the malls and stores. for now live in cherry hill, randy gyllenhaal, nbc10 news. well, this is a live look at i- i-95 in south philadelphia. things going just well this morning. roads not too busy this morning, certainly that will pick up as the day goes
