50s at best over the lehigh valley, little cooler a cooler air farther north. on/off rain for new jersey same deal at the jersey shore though not as much rain approaching the shore and southern president trump's travel ban policy should be partially blocked. a federal appeals court made that ruling yesterday, but that decision will not override an earlier ruling from the u.s. supreme court. it. it's christmas weekend, guys. let's take a look at your radar and satellite view. there's a lot going on from now ro and currently it's the rain that's falling. we've got scattered showers over parts of new jersey and delaware, although delaware getting a little bit of a break right now. then you terms of the rainfall over parts of our north and west neighborhoods through the lehigh valley, berks county. on/off rain with a better chance of rain north than south. but all of us get a little wet stuff throughout the daytime. you can see why. this is a big system we have heading our way. the frontal system is still well over to the southwest. but what'srain is pumping our direc this is a warm air flow. so temperatures are going to be mild today. the colder air, the snow you see not going to impact us with thim side of things. but i would not be surprised if because of some of the snow and thunderstorms with this system there are some travel delays. so i would just check with my airline before heading out the door to see how your flight's doing. so far in general it looks like our airports are doing all right. highs for today, 58 degrees in philadelphia, 51 in the lehigh valley and about 60 in delaware. so, yeah, that's a seriously mild air push that we are getting from the southwest. hour by hour model for you shows rain i was talking about. kind of on and off here. at 2:30 in the afternoon it's more scattered showers and then we get another pulse of rain that passes through about 8:00 tonight. things will start to dry out after 8:00 p.m. sunday the whole is dry. mix of clouds and sun out there as we go right on through 7:30 in the evening, not bad for your sunday travel plans or sunday shopping plans. but sunday overnight this is starting at around 8:00, 9:00 p.m. and then going through the overnight hours notice we got a chance of a few flakes falling, not a lot, maybe an inch or two at best on grassy surfaces over the poconos, lehigh valley, berks county, it's more likely you'll see a rain/snow mix in the north and west neighborhoods and near the i-95 corridor a few flakes could mix in but leaning towards rain. and then rain farther south as well. now, this is in the early a.m. hours of your christmas day. but notice everything's out of here by 8:00 a.m. so by the time you're waking up, maybe going to see family, the roadways may be slick, but we should be with drier conditions through the day. christmas eve itself 4:00 overcast 43 degrees, dry still at 6:00 and then by around like i mentioned 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. this is when chances begin for that little rain/snow mix though temperatures leaning towards rain at 37 degrees 10:00 p.m. in philadelphia. now let's go through the christmas planner. 34 degrees, we should have dried out by 6:00 a.m. but it will be breezy, cold and you could run into some slick spots if you are driving north or west of philadelphia. at 10:00 a.m., 36 degrees, notice we don't really warm up, we stay with the biting cold at 38 degrees through your afternoon. and we will stay cool feeling like the low 20s by 7:00 at night. all right. thank you, krystal. coming up, singing like a bird, how the eagles rookies spread christmas cheer to the rest of the team as they tune up for christmas day showdown with the oakland raiders. plus, tradition saved. how a yearly reenactment that had been most requested holiday gift. in fact, more than half of us will ask for one this year. but you could end up getting zero balance no matter how much money the card is actually supposed to have on it. in this morning's nbc10 responds, harry hairston shows us what you need to know before you get scammed. >> reporter: a trip to mauie started with a little frustration. patricia had a $100 gift card, a present from her daughter. she pulled it out to pay for dinner one night and the waitress told her the card had no money on it. >> it was kind of embarrassing actually. it was really embarrassing because, you know, it feels like it was my fault or something when it wasn't. >> reporter: patricia called the number on the back of the card and was told the card had already been used. >> so i was really shocked by that. i didn't understand it. >> so your gift card that you thought was shiny and new is now completely used. >> reporter: jill gonzalez is with wallet hub, a personal finance website. she says patricia's gift card was hacked. and here's how the scam works. hackers sift through racks of gift cards for sale at retailers. they copy down or take pictures of the numbers. they also scratch off a security code strip to get that number and replace the strip. the hackers have special software and get an alert when the card is activated. the hackers create a new card with your card's information they use it themselves or sell it. >> since this fraudsternos ri k right away, they're on the move. >> reporter: we contacted visa and patricia got a new gift card right away. in a statement the company apologized to patricia and said we do all we can to ensure the cards function properly. patricia was happy to get her money back, but she's leery about using gift cards again. >> it was really, really a letdown. honestly, i don't think i will ever purchase gift cards again. >> reporter: you'll likely buy someone a gift card this holiday, so here are some tips to help prevent you and the recipient from getting ripped off. if it looks like the gift card's packaging has been tampered with, don't buy it. avoid buying cards from third party sellers on websites like e-bay. your safest bet is to buy gift cards online directly from a retailer. and e-mail them to the recipient. and if you receive a gift card, don't activate it until you are ready to use it. all right. th you're not alone if you need to pick up some gifts. coming up next, we go over the last-minute shopping numbers and where you can find stores already open this morning. >> and running through your christmas forecast, those 30s, chilly conditions and it gets colder after that. the details on your christmas weekend are coming up. super saturday, it's what businesses are calling today as they look to bring in last-minute christmas shoppers. we are live in cherry hill with what to expect at the stores. christmas forecast. we are starting off the holiday weekend with a soggy saturday. we'll tell you what to expect on the big day in your neighborhood. and on the road this morning, this a live look at i-95 traffic moving along just fine this morning. travelers are expected to be out in full force once again today. what it means for your trip home for the holidays. good morning and welcome back to "nbc10 news today." i'm dray clark. it is now 6:30 on this saturday morning. as i said a moment ago, holiday travelers may have to deal with soggy conditions on the roads on this saturday morning. let's get right to krystal klei and the first alert forecast. good morning, krystal. >> good morning, dray. but the good news is it's just some soggy conditions. no icy, no snowy conditions. and you can tell why. temperatures are a little too mild this morning. 35 the lowest we go, that's in mt. pocono. we're at 39 in allentown and then the rest of us are in the 40s here. philadelphia at 45, vineland 47 and nearly 50 at the atlantic city airport. we expected this, why? the south wind that pumps in warmer air that sits typically to the south of us. there's the rain dray was just mentioning. it's mostly light and spotty over new jersey and parts of delaware. it's a little more steady over our north and west neighborhoods through the suburbs as well as the lehigh valley and berks county. and there is a lot more where that comes with. this storm center is still way off to our west. you can see it's producing snow for some. that's not going to impact us today. we will stay on the mild side of this storm system. but i wouldn't be surprised if this does lead to some kind of travel delays, so i would check with my airline before heading out. in philly let's run through the christmas weekend. warm and wet today. upper 50s with those on and off rain showers right on through the evening. tomorrow cooler, drier and even some peeks of sunshine. then comes your christmas day. and overnight into those early a.m. hours we could see a little rain/snow mix. check out temperatures down to 38 for a high. more detail on your christmas weekend and run through the futurecast model in just a bit. thank you, krystal. happening now, businesses are banking on last-minute holiday shoppers to hit the stores today on what they're calling super saturday, the last full day of shopping before christmas. nbc10's randy gyllenhaal is live in cherry hill this morning. and, randy, retailers are hoping for crowds while procrastinators hope to get everything done just in the nick of time. >> reporter: and you know this super saturday we're cutting it pretty close, just two days to go until christmas. still a lot of time to get what you need. we talked about "star wars" last half hour. look at all this eagles gear, another real popular item this year. you can get them a jersey or something like that ahead of the big monday night game this week on christmas day. and we are already seeing a ton of shoppers waking up early to beat the crowds, buying some last-minute stuff. we're going to see big crowds later today. the national retail federation did a survey asking some 7,000 consumers about their holiday shopping this year. found about half of all shoppers still plan to pick something up today or tomorrow. only 12% of people said they were completely finished buying gifts. >> i need to buy for my dad, my grand mom, my friend, all of my nieces and nephews, my mom, so everybody, yeah. >> reporter: do you think you're going to see a lot of crowds today? >> i guess that's why we're up early because we beat the crowd. we got up early, yeah. >> reporter: smart man. we are a nation of procrastination. by the way, that survey also asked people where they did their shopping. more than 50% said they did it online, but as you can tell with two days to go not much time to get that shipping in so you're going to see a lot of people at the stores and at the malls today. give yourself a few extra minutes if you're going shopping. for now, live at cherry hill mall, randy gyllenhaal, nbc10 news. thank you, randy. this is also a busy weekend for travel. millions of people will be taking to the skies, riding the rails and hitting the roads to get to their holiday destinations. this is a live look at i-95 in south philadelphia. you can see there traffic moving along just fine this morning. the roads don't look too busy, but that certainly will change as things pick up as the day goes on. experts recommend checking your vehicle to make sure it's ready to make that big trip back home. now let's take a look at philly international airport. we saw lots of travelers there yesterday. this morning there are some cancellations for flights headed to states in the northeast due to bad weather conditions. the airport reminds passengers to check the status of their flight before heading out this morning and please allow extra time to check-in. now, nationwide aaa estimates more than 100 million americans will be on the move over the holidays. 90% will be hitting the highways and more than 6 million people are expected to fly through new year's day. and if you are traveling, stay ahead of any winter weather conditions that may come our way with our free nbc10 app. new overnight, a crash happened around 1:30 this morning on davis town road in gloucester township. investigators are looking into why the car flipped over. a man in the hospital this county. it happened last night at north sixth street and greenway avenue. the victim is in the hospital this morning. we're working to find out that person's condition and learn more details about the incident from police. well, with candles, prayers and white sunglasses, a philadelphia community gathered for a vigil in memory of a grandfather who was killed inside his home earlier this week. dozens of people filled addison street in west philadelphia last night to remember 85-year-old willie cooper. on tuesday a relative found cooper stabbed to death inside his home. the person who did it is still on the loose. last night cooper's daughter had something to say to her father's killer. >> you are a coward. you might know me. you are a coward. please, please turn yourself in. >> cooper's daughter said she will not rest until her father's killer is caught. well, police are calling it a very strange case. a woman drops off a backpack at a school in bensalem, but there weren't books in the backpack. instead there was $100,000 worth of heroin. we are not naming the school at the request of police, but investigators certainly are hoping that someone will show up to claim this bag. >> someone's going to pay a price for it and it's going to be a lot more than $100,000. i just hope no one gets killed over this. >> police say they know the drugs were not destined for their area. they believe the way the heroin was packaged suggests it was on its way to trenton, new jersey. and at the jersey shore there's a happy ending to a story involving a real life grinch. police in north wildwood recovered $600 worth of toys stolen from a collection bin at a supermarket. the toys will go back to lunch with lynch foundation for kids in need. police arrested, get this, 65-year-old irene you the christmas reunion at the philadelphia international airport for a local man returning from boot camp. welcome back. meengt meteorologist krystal klei here. we're looking at national radar and satellite view to show you where there's a few trouble spots across the country if you have flights today. you can tell it's obvious where the trouble issues are here. we have a pretty large storm center producing some snow, mostly rain. and it's starting to head right on into new england. the pink you see, that's the trouble spots in new england where icing is starting to occur. and then that line of thunderstorms trying to produce all the way down to louisiana. these are the areas we'll be watching today. the southwest, central parts of the country, they look pretty good for flights. let's go through your holiday travel. starting with chicago, 30 degrees today. tomorrow some snow showers possible and 24 degrees, very cold tomorrow. more so tomorrow you have the colder forecast, some snow showers possible in cincinnati. for pittsburgh look at that, 39 tomorrow, but dry. so sunday's going to be the better travel day as you get closer to our area. if you're driving to pittsburgh, again, tomorrow better off than the rain we're seeing today. same in d.c., rainy today but mild and 60s. tomorrow 44 but a mix of clouds and sunshine. the poconos 35 tomorrow, and dry today some rain. wrap it up in new york and boston where today icing is possible in boston so i would say tomorrow much better off if you'll be driving that way. we'll talk about your christmas weekend forecast locally coming up. it's a fraud, it's a fraud, it's a fraud! >> coming up this morning, the social media scam that has oprah winfrey singing about imposters. we'll tell you what to look out for. plus, snowballs at santa. it's a decades old stereotype that angers eagles fans. how the birds social media team is having a little fun with it ahead of the christmas night game. it wasn't aliens or end of the world, but that's what some people thought when they saw this streak of light in the sky over southern california last night. so exactly what was it? it was a spacex rocket launch, that's what it was. the reused rocket blasted off from vandenberg air force base. it carried ten satellites into orbit. spacex is planning several more launches to replace satellites by the middle of next year. well, oprah is known for her list of fafrt things, but what's not on that list is scammers. the tv mogul is warning fans about an imposter. >> hi everybody. i just wanted you to know that somebody out there is trying to scam you using my name and my avatar on social media asking for money if you sign up for an o.w.n. account on instagram. it's a fraud, it's a fraud, it's a fraud! >> the oprah winfrey network says it's contacting the social media platforms to have those fake accounts deactivated. christmas is still two days away, but santa and one of his elves made an early stop in philadelphia. police officers stopped by the barrett playgrounds christmas party in olney yesterday and dropped off gifts for students in the afterschool program. police and other organizations also donated food for the pre christmas celebration. >> let the kids know that they are loved, there are people out there that do care about them. and we want to show them what a family environment is. >> organizers say they hope the kids remember the party and carry the spirit of the season with them. santa also made a stop in north philadelphia. 190 students at shepherd elementary school are all on his good list. they got presents yesterday. old st. nick wasn't the only guest. officers from the philadelphia police department volunteered to be a part of the special day. >> why we are bringing them this moment of joy knowing that this is their only gift, it's heartbreaking. >> this part of the city has seen a growing number of puerto rican residents struggling to make philadelphia their new home after hurricane maria. in bucks county, a holiday tradition is saved thanks to some very talented philadelphia school kids. the annual christmas day reenactment of george washington's crossing of the delaware river had actually been called off because of low water levels. a nonprofit that teaches boat building skills to students is lending the organizer six hand made row boats. they have flat bottoms able to cross under current conditions. philadelphia sports fans have been getting a bum rap for years. a big example people point to happened nearly 50 years ago. it was december 1968 at franklin field. during the christmas theme halftime show, birds fans pelted santa with countless snowballs. but now the eagles have brought together santa and a snowball to sort
