In philadelphia tonight, police are stepping up security at 30th street station and other Transportation Centers to make sure everyone stays safe during the evening rush. He told Law Enforcement he did it in the name of isis. And lets also be clear, this was an attempted terrorist attack. Thank god the perpetrator did not achieve his ultimate goal. I was just actually thankful that we left a little bit later than i was planning on leaving because we would have been here. Reporter for new yorkers, its the Second Attack to shake the city in two months after a man drove into people in Lower Manhattan on halloween. Its scary but you have to go on with your life. Youre a target. Theres no way around it. New york is a big target. Reporter this man has lived here his whole life and works four blocks away from todays explosion. I think new york is going to go on like we always do. We have perseverance and we understand it and we have to live our lives. Again, a big Police Presence out here. Just a while ago this evening, new york Police Tweeted out that they do want to talk to any witnesses of that explosion today. Chris christie urges everyone in the state to stay alert. Also, septa and Philadelphia Police officers increased patrols in direct response to the terror attack in new york. The police chief showed nbc 10 how extra officers started patrolling immediately after this mornings terrorism attack. They watched for suspicious activity, utilizing tens of thousands of cameras and encourage people if they see something, say something. I think after incidents like this, we all see a spike in the number of calls from people. We want them to call all the time. Philadelphia police also adding more officers. And youre not especially concerned about much of the area tomorrow morning. Up towards the poconos mountains, as you can see, at the beginning of the morning rush and then down towards parts of the Lehigh Valley and berks county, generally the upper elevations of those counties, its also very brief. Farther to the south, its too warm. It would be raindrops that would be falling tomorrow morning if they occurred not only in philadelphia but northern and western suburbs. Then everything moves out and here we are as we go through the night tonight and into the morning. Look at this, the temperature goes up in philadelphia as we head through the Morning Hours tomorrow. Delaware police are identifying the teenager who was shot and killed by a trooper in dover. Nbc 10 was the only crew on the scene just after the deadly shootout early saturday morning. It all started as a routine traffic stop and then the passenger flashed a gun. There was a shootout and then a 16yearold was killed. Another teenager in the car was hit by a bullet but is out of the hospital. The trooper involved was not hurt and is on administrative leave. New at 6 00, researchers at Childrens Hospital in philadelphia want to learn whether medical marijuana could help children with autism. Experts say this study will be the first major effort of its kind in the u. S. The hospital will not be using marijuana on any children starting next year, though, they will collect data from kids who use cannabis under the states medical marijuana program. The poconos mountain could be heading to bchl erks county and Lehigh County even in the early Morning Hours. But everybody is going to get hit by this. This is the cold that comes in tuesday night, not tonight but tuesday night through wednesday night and plus the arctic air moves in. Our bodies are not adjusted to that. Its cold right now. Allentown, 36 in coatesville, 32 in trenton and 31 in mt. Holly. But theres not a lot of wind and the temperature may actually go up as we go through the night tonight. But it is already down to 30. 32 in s People Better ton. So there are places in new jersey and the temperatures going up overnight thats going to help as precipitation comes in in the morning in those areas its like we just get the roads wet. Here is snow showing up on radar. Its pretty close but not reaching the ground. Parts of the atmosphere are lightening up and hit the grounds in parts of the northwestern pennsylvania area as the weak system starts to come in and you can see by the morning rush as the poconos get light snow and there could be several hours of it there but it may be a mix of rain and snow in Lehigh Valley and berks county. The temperatures will just melt and then dries out. In the afternoon, thats when the wind starts to come in big time. So by later in the day, were talking about temperatures getting into the 40s and a brief snow that is perhaps shanksville and allentown and easton but temperatures are above the freezing mark and its very light and we have rain in vorhees and just briefly in the morning and then gets up into the 40s in the afternoon. Now weve got changes coming. Theres two afternoon, feeling like 30s, not too bad and then all of a sudden tomorrow evening if youre staying out later, tomorrow evening, this is january kind of winter and by the middle of the night and wednesday morning were talking about single digit windchills over just about the whole area and that is not just for an hour or two. Thats for a lot of hours. Late tomorrow night and into wednesday morning, wednesday afternoon, already up to feeling like were in the teens. So thats the best its going to be all day on wednesday, is feeling like its in the teens. So were talking about bitter cold air. Its not going to last but its going to be cold enough so that when we get the chances for some snow thursday into friday, that could actually stick even if its not that heavy.
