In new jersey, a similar shopping frenzy in cherry hill before the turkey had a chance to digest. Some anchor stores at the Cherry Hill Mall stayed open all night long. For some, the shopping is about savings. For others its a holiday tradition. Well find really good deals. We shop for our moms. Well buy a couple things. Then we go eat. Then we go eat. You couldnt even get in the parking lot when i drove by earlier. Reporter all afternoon, just like that, it is really as bustling as it gets. We pulled in about 2 00 this afternoon and the stream of traffic, not moving traffic at this point, has not thinned at all since 2 00. The parking lots are packed. Definitely by the looks of all of it, this black friday is not disappointing either here in person or online. You could hear the Holiday Cheer in stores today and outside the shops at the premium outlets. You could see the evidence of black friday excitement. Shopper after shopper loaded down with their loot. Beth price and her family had been out since the early hours this morning. Weve been doing it for years. So this is a Family Tradition for us. Reporter down at the christiana mall, this mega shopping day was perhaps a little less hectic. But the deals were still just as good. We were able to get in and out of stores, even though theyre crowded. The people working inside the stores are very good. Reporter nationwide, surging online sales and a shift away from store shopping have thinned crowds over the past two years. The Rowan University grads behind bestblackfriday. Com are a prime example of the shift. Their website curates the best online deals and directs you straight to them. Yesterday alone, they had four million unique visitors. Until a few years ago, people werent buying online. It was all in store only. Reporter for this time, the online peak hit last night around 6 00 p. M. But for many of the folks out and about today, like price, Online Shopping is just one component. They say theres still Something Special about that in store feel. I still like going out to the store and seeing things. Every now and then well go with amazon. For the most part i like being around people. The Water Department says theres reason they let this water run its course. Nbc 10 mitch blocker is live near the site of that break on fowler street to explain. Mitch . Reporter at this point, the water has been off for a couple of hours. You can see the philadelphia walter department, theyve completed their work for the day. But just a few hours ago, just before noon today, this road, it was still a river of water. I noticed this morning when i woke up our water pressure was low. When i got over here i saw this. Reporter george says this neighborhoods calls to the Water Department went unanswered for hours. It looks like a river. Like, if you look at it, its crazy. Reporter james called too. We called the Water Department. They said a lot of people were on holiday. So its like, unacceptable, i think. Reporter the philadelphia Water Department says it was here wednesday to check out what someone reported as a water sound. By late thursday, you could hear and see it. The Water Department spokesman said they got calls after 7 00 thursday night. We did look at it. We were determined it could stay on, allowing Water Service to stay on to the homes. Reporter its true, the Water Department had limited staff on thanksgiving. Staff said they also considered the impact of shutting off a neighborhoods water in the middle of thanksgiving dinner. Were told there was no evidence of risk to people or property, so the water stayed on. Its not completely abnormal that on a holiday like thanksgiving or christmas, when we are not fully staffed, that water main breaks could in essence run for day or so. Reporter by late friday morning, the eight inch water main below fowler street was off. Crews expect to have the water back on before the morning. And one of the reasons you saw so much water gushing from such a small pipe is because they have to have a bunch of pressure to get it up the hills here in roxberro. The Holiday Weekend came to a fiery end for family in philadelphia. The woman who owns that row home there was returning from a thanksgiving get together and thats what she saw. The woman has lived at the house on east price street for about 30 years. Her son was inside when the flames broke out. He did make it out okay. Despite the damage, she remains optimistic saying everything happens for a reason. Something good is going to come out of this. Im not trusting jesus for nothing. They told me to evacuate and i grabbed my animals and i put them in a car. No animals were hurt but several homes nearby are damaged. No word on what started the far. We have new details on a gruesome scene at a center city septa station. Police believe a charred body found on top of a train is that of a young man, possibly a teenager. It happened at the Jefferson Station just before 8 00 this morning. Investigators say the body was laying on top of the train near its power lines. Theyre working to identify that person and how he died. The investigation caused delays on several Regional Rail lines this morning. At least 235 people are dead, more than 100 hurt after an attack on a mosque in egypts sinai peninsula. This map gives you an idea of where the attack happened, northeast of cairo. Police said the militants opened fire from four off road vehicles on the hundreds of worshippers. They also blocked off escape routes from the area by blowing up cars. South Africas Supreme Court of appeal, more than doubled the prison sentence for Oscar Pistorious today. The verdict was unanimous and unexpected. The olympian wasnt in court. He was originally convicted of manslaughter. That was changed to a murder conviction. He will now serve 13 years and five months and could be moved to a high security prison to serve the rest of his sentence. A woman has been arrested and charged, accused of killing a Highway Department worker back in september. She is charged with homicide by vehicle. Police say on september 5th, she drove over an orange cone, hitting two workers on west broad street. You can see in this video from sky force 10, the windshield on the car is smashed. One of the workers died. She is expected in court later this month. Volkswagen is paying out billions of dollars for its emissions scandal. New jersey will be seeing a lot of that money. Governor Chris Christie says the state will get more than 72 million from the settlement. That is one of the largest amounts given to any state. New jersey will receive 69 million as part of a different lawsuit. The automaker was fined 30 billion after it was caught rigging two of its diesel engines to pass u. S. Emissions test. More students are choosing delaware colleges than ever, both the university of delaware and Delaware State University have seen record enrollment this year. They grew up coming to the river rink, now living in the pittsburgh area she returns with her own children. There was never any arcades or rides, the games, the little picture things. It was the rink, and like, a little hot cocoa bar back in the 90s. Reporter for five years, winter fest has provided a much different atmosphere. But its a similar nostalgia, that creates a full circle moment for her and her kids. Its a first time for them to be a part of what i grew up with in this city. Im from here and theyre not.
