Reporter good morning. So many unresolved questions about russias extent of interference in the 2016 campaign and who if anyone in the orbit of donald trump might be involved. Those questions have been the work of the grand jury and the special counsel largely in secret but today there is a potential new development. This morning what could be a major step forward in special counsel Robert Muellers investigation. Cnn is reporting that a grand jury on friday approved the first charges in the probe and that anyone targeted could be forced to surrender as soon as monday. Nbc news has been unable to confirm the report. Mueller, a former fbi director, was appointed last may to look into whether the Trump Campaign colluded with russia to influence the 2016 election. Muellers team has also been investigating foreign lobbying by former Trump Campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former National Security adviser Michael Flynn among others. Manafort and flynns lawyers have denied any wrongdoing. Before the news broke, President Trump tweeted on friday it is now commonly agreed after many months of costly looking that there was no collusion between russia and trump. Was collusion with h. C. Still no evidence of collusion between the president and all of your news organizations have spent probably a lot of money on this as well which we would consider a pretty big waste. But the investigation by the special counsel and congress is going full team. Friday former trump adviser carter page met with former staffers for more than five hours. Nbc news has learned investigators questioned President Trumps former Attorney Michael Cohen earlier this week over a failed plan to open a new tower in moscow. Both cohen and page insist they are being smeared by false allegations. As to the Trump Administration claims, its the Clinton Campaign that colluded with russians. The speed tells us that bob mueller is not waiting until the end of the investigation to do indictments. That he is beginning while he has interviews left. That is according to our reporting. He hasnt finished going up the chart for the top interviews. It tells us that he may ultimately want to use this process to get further cooperation or information in a longer running investigation. So thats why he would indict someone this soon, with the hopes perhaps of getting this person or persons to flip, if you will, to become states witness. Thats a key benefit that km would come from this. They would never say theyre doing this. They would say they found enough facts to charge. We have this system here that is a potential Tropical Cyclone and it could become a Tropical Storm as we go into this afternoon. Right now winds are at 35 Miles Per Hour. It looks like its going to crossover western cuba, just brush to the southeast of miami and move out to sea. We could see a few inches of rains with wind gusts up to 40 or 50 Miles Per Hour. We have a cold front moving in. Thats going to tap in to some of the leftover moisture with this system and thats going to develop into not so much a noreaster but we will see gusty winds and also a lot of rain. Today most of the rain is associated with this cold front through the interior northeast. As we go into tomorrow that moisture gets picked up with that area of low frepressure.
