atlantic danny is churning. first miguel almaguer has drastic measures being taken to fight wildfires in washington state. >> reporter: calling in help from as far as new zealand and australia and asking for volunteers, anyone with experience fighting fires who can operate heavy machinery is asked to step forward after overnight displaced. overnight multiplying in size, ths fire that took three lives is still moving in multiple directions. officials say the firefighters who died. tom zbyszewski was an only child. his parents also work for the forest service. >> loves life and loves people. >> a special kid. we are really going to miss tom. >> andrew zajac was married to a firefighter, a scientist committed to the environment. richard wheeler, 31, was a veteran with ten years on the fire line and a young husband. daniel lion was hurt wednesday suffering burns over most of his body, the 25 year old fighting for his life. >> he loves to work and serve his community. he has been a great wonderful child. >> reporter: late thursday a procession to honor the men they call heroes as firefighters push on while taking time to remember the fallen. the government is spending $150 million a week on fire suppression. they say some 46 million homes or 40% of the population has a home at risk for a potential wildfire. tamron and matt back to you. >> thank you very much. now to the other major weather story, danny, the first hurricane of the atlantic season. >> this is a small compact storm. hurricane force winds only extend about ten miles out. it is moving over very warm water. winds are at 85 miles per hour making it a category 1 and should remain as category 1 for the next couple of days and then moves into an environment to rip it apart. by the time it makes its way through the leeward islands should be a tropical storm and then makes its way to dominican republic by wednesday morning. these are the upper level winds that will rip the storm apart. some drier air will wrap in. that is unfavorable environment for a tropical system. actually this could be the best case scenario for puerto rico. they are in an extreme drought having about 10.7 inches below average since the beginning of the year. they can really use the rain but not dealing with damaging winds from a much bigger storm. this could be good news for puerto rico as long as they don't get mudslides because of dry conditions. >> possible silver lining. thank you. quite a scene tonight in mobile, alabama when donald trump holds what is expected to be the biggest rally of the presidential campaign so far. ticket demand is so high the event is being moved from indoor arena to a stadium that can hold 15,000 people. katy tur is there. >> reporter: if the turnout is as big as they expect it to be it will be the biggest rally of the campaign season. 36,000 people so far part of the campaign about one-fifth of the entire population of mobile, alabama. so big they had to move it to this local football stadium. the governor already endorsed somebody else but jeb bush came out swinging questioning trump's conservative credentials saying he has been a democrat longer than he has been a republican and getting into a fiery exchange with a reporter who asked about the term anchor babies used to describe babies of undocumented immigrants that many find offensive. >> the term anchor are reports the trump organization has reached out to a major hispanic group to try to resolve their differences. matt. >> democratic front runner hillary clinton is capping off an already tough week for her campaign with even more glaring headlines tied to her e-mail crisis all adding to speculation that vice president joe biden could be eyeing a potential run of his own. kristen welker has more for us. >> reporter: we are heading into yet another weekend in which hillary clinton's campaign is being overshadowed by the e-mail issue. she has been on defense all week long and now a sharp rebuke from a federal judge. hillary clinton increasingly mired in the e-mail scandal. on thursday during a hearing involving clinton's long time adviser's e-mails the federal judge scolded the former secretary of state saying we wouldn't be here today if the employee had followed government policy in an indication he thinks clinton broke the rules. this comes as the fbi is in the process of trying to recover data wiped from clinton's private server. for the first time a representative from the i.t. company that provided the server spoke out. >> were networks aware of the sensitive possible classified material on the server? >> the job of the i.t. company is to manage and protect that data. we don't look at the data. we manage it and protect it. >> reporter: several democrats tell nbc everyone who heard it. >> i thought it was a bomb. >> reporter: residents are still in shock this morning after a possible gas explosion blew out several floors of jfk high school in bronx, new york thursday night. the blast so powerful the entire neighborhood felt it. >> the whole house shook completely. >> reporter: custodians working in the building say they were returning from their break just moments before. >> we heard a large explosion, the alarms went off five seconds afterwards. >> reporter: authorities say construction crews had been working on a science lab on the sixth floor. three of the contractors were seriously injured, one critically. >> we are dealing with the immediate situation securing the building and the immediate area, continuing the cleanup and beginning the investigatory process. >> reporter: it comes days after a gas explosion levelled a motel 6 in washington critically injuring one person. here in new york authorities are still investigating what caused the incident here at the high school. with the extensive damage and classes set to begin in less than three weeks there is little time to wait. >> what caused the explosion we do not know that yet but we will certainly get to the bottom of it. >> reporter: inspectors will check for structural damage. if that goes smooth construction will begin soon. >> thank you. frightening moments in los angeles thursday night after an explosion rocked a building downtown in an underground section of a 19 story high rise. two people were sent to the hospital. the cause of the explosion is under investigation. officials believe a generator was involved. the blast knocked out the power at a concert. caitlyn jenner could face a vehicular manslaughter charge. investigators say jenner was driving charges. joe friar er is looking into th >> reporter: the case will be presented stemming from a fatal chain reaction crash six months ago before jenner announced she was transitioning to a woman. jat ln jenner is back in the spot light in the detailed report about the deadly multi car crash. the sheriff's department says jenner was traveling too fast for the wet conditions although sources say jenner was driving below the posted speed limit. jenner's cadillac was pulling an offroad vehicle on a trailer while traveling on the pacific coast highway. this footage taken by a passing bus shows jenner was unable to stop in time and her suv rear ended two cars. one of the cars was pushed into on coming traffic and struck by a hummer. the driver of the lexus 69-year-old kim howe was killed. the district attorney's office will determine what, if any, charges will be filed in this case and whether a request for further information. >> three sets of facts to look at, caitlyn's conduct, caitlyn's speed and what was the flow of traffic and what were other people doing on the road at the same time. >> reporter: jenner's team declined to comment on the report. jenner released a statement saying my heart felt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones and to all of those involved in the terrible accident. i am praying for them. a decision on whether to charge jenner or not charge her could take weeks. jenner faces two civil lawsuits from the crash including one from the family of the woman who was killed. >> msnbc's chief legal correspondent. we hear jenner was traveling below the posted speed limit but according to the statement from the sheriff's department speed was a factor. i guess they are saying she didn't reduce speed enough due to wet conditions. that is very subjective. >> what they are saying is not there was an automatic law violated but not the right care exercised. that is the legal standard. >> but no mathematical equation. next to a posted speed limit is not another sign that says when roads are wet reduce speeds 20% or something like that. >> there isn't a strong case to say we know the person made a mistake. >> she could be guilty of bad judgment but technically it will be hard to prove she is guilty of breaking the law. >> that is why it is only a misdemeanor in the rare case where this would be pursued. >> isn't it a misdemeanor because there was no intent to harm anyone? >> right. accidents are a bad thing and people know that. the law cares more about whether you had a bad intention, a bad goal than just that you got caught up in a bad thing. >> is the worst case scenario that she will spend about a year in a county jail. >> up to a year in the county jail. that is rare. a lot of people say is a celebrity getting special treatment? in most of these car accidents when it is only negligence or less people don't go to jail at all. >> there is a civil suit that caitlyn jenner is facing. would the filing of misdemeanor charges against her have an impact on the civil trial? >> i think it could in that lawyers would say let's get this out of the way if all they have to do is pay for it. a civil trial has a lower standard which means if you are anywhere in the ballpark of criminal charges you are probably going to fare worse. >> thanks very much. let's get a check of the weather from al in first females to graduate from the army's grueling ranger school and are opening up about their achievement. erica hill is at fort benning. >> reporter: while there has been so much talk about the accomplishments of these women we have heard very little from the two female soldiers themselves until now. for the questions about the grueling ranger training among soldiers any concerns were quickly forgotten. >> the men don't care that you are a female. you feel you are going to help share the load. >> i was skeptical. she took the weight off of me and carried us literally saved me. >> reporter: a military police officer who grew up in connecticut, kristen griest and shaye haver and self-described army brat distinguished themselves early on. both are west point graduates. today they join the ranks of another elite group. just 42% of those who start ranger training graduate. there are strict physical fitness standards including a five mile run in under 40 minutes, a 12 mile hike in less than three hours, 49 pushups and three phases of training, the woods, mountains and swamp. each one an intense test of physical and mental strength as soldiers prove their survival and leadership skills. >> we came to ranger school skeptical with our guards up. we didn't come with a chip on our shoulder. >> reporter: while the navy announced this week it is open to letting women who pass its rigorous field training program serve with that elite unit only 94 men graduating today can apply to the ranger regiment. >> i would be proud to serve along each ranger graduate tomorrow in combat or elsewhere. the women impressed me and met the standard and are ranger qualified individuals. >> i came here to try to be a better leader and prove myself. i feel like i did that. >> reporter: both women say throughout the training they were thinking a lot about the women who could be coming after them. this is the ranger's badge that they will be getting later this morning pinned on at about 11:00 eastern time. they can wear this when they return to their post that they held prior to training. they may not be the only women for long. there is one more woman in ranger school >> i think some people will do it and some won't. >> should you search for it? >> if you really want to find out and i think information is important to know then you fwoe search and then you see what happens. if you don't want to know because it will turn your world upside down. >> and so i say to people if you don't want to know then you might step back from it and think about it for a while. if you feel like you need to know this information then what are you going to do once you find out? >> let's talk about the face of technology. you have facebook friends and folks on the internet who follow you on instagram or twitter. has it made it difficult for people to say what is the definition of cheating? a flirtatious text or an ex flame from high school? >> i say have the courageous digital conversation. the game has changed so the conversation is what are the dos and don'ts of cheating. how do we deal with identifying deal breakers based on technology today. some people might think texting is infidelity. some might say only intercourse is infidelity. you need to have the conversation because otherwise you won't know. >> technology changed the game as it relates to what we consider infidelity. thank you so much for your time. we appreciate it. up next on trending do you wear contacts?
