delaware, we have a shower that's expanding quite a bit. this one's bringing locally heavy rainfall. for the rest of this evening, we'll be watching for any other scattered showers or thunderstorms to pop up, we're going do keep that in the forecast for the early evening hours. >> temperatures hot and humid around most of the area. we did hit 90 today, we actually hit 92 degrees. we're still in the heat wave, we've been in it all across the week yesterday and today. tomorrow and friday, we will be breaking out of the that heat wave. more rain chances before the weekend gets here, also i have your eagles forecast coming up. >> also tonight nbc10 has learned new information about a delaware county restaurant with a roach program. >> we told you how yang ming in bryn mawr had been shut down because of health concerns. police were back at the restaurant and didn't like what they saw. >> doug shimell joins us live with an update. >> there was a lot of activity by staff and contractors. a lot of that activity should have been taken place over the past week. ever since a customer found roaches in their food. >> they had five days to clean up, what we found today was deplorable. imagine what it looked like five days ago, when it's still deplorable and we're pulling out roaches and expired fold. >> reporter: moldy looking continues, more roaches in food prep and storage areas. >> i spoke with the owner this morning and told him that all his management staff should be fired in the next five minutes. totally unacceptable of the conditions that are here. >> reporter: crews also sent a remote camera into the nearby sewer. >> there's greece runs off of this property into the common sewer air. wherever you look, it's very disturbing, very angering. >> staff could be seen hi, i'm jared the subway guy. >> he rose to fame more than 15 years ago and quickly snapped up by the subway fast food chain. now, jared from some way is facing more than five years in federal prison. >> he has been charged and has admitted to participating in a five-year criminal scheme to exploit children. >> federal prosecutors say in 2011, the head of his charitable foundation had sexually exploited a 14-year-old girl. instead of going to police, fogle viewed explicit video of that girl and also 11 others. >> this is about using wealth, status and secrecy to illegally exploit children. >> reporter: he agreed to plead guilty. he will be sentenced to five to 12 years in presidenten. he will pay $100,000 a piece to the 14 alleged victims the government has identified. >> jared fogle expects to go to prison, do his time. he expects to get well, he expects to continue to make amends to those people who's lives he's affected. >> he's cut ties to fogle. she's shocked and is filing for divorce. meanwhile, wilmington police are looking for the driver who took off after hitting and killing a man this morning. it happened along west 28th street. dwayne wisher was crossing the street around 2:30 when the car hit him and drove off. the driver who struck four young people last night will not face char charges in the deadly wreck. 2-year-old martinez and his 6-year-old brother for being pulled by an 18-year-old sister in a wagon. they were walking home from a park when they were hit. neighbors tried to help the kids before paramedics could arrive. >> i'm guessing the wagon had rolled and the kids that were in the wagon, they were the ones that ended up closest to my house. >> the little boy was all over the place. he was laying on the ground. he was moving a lot. we have to get him still. >> there are no sidewalks, no shoulder and no streetlights. three victims remain hospitalized to cooper medical center. camden county health officials diverted all people away from kennedy hospital after transporting a woman there who reported a high fever. she was on a 21-day watch list after visiting west africa, and called to say she was running a temperature. camden county says it turns out the woman has malaria and not ebola, their training and reporting systems worked flawlessly. >> you have to call in in the morning and in the evening, so around 12 hours apart with her temperature. if we don't hear from her, we have disease investigators that keep track of them. >> they hope the woman's quick and honestness calling paramedics sets a good precedent for others on the travel watch list. a teacher accused of sexting students at malvern prep. the 40-year-old sent hundreds of messages, including topless photos and suggestive e-mails to a 16-year-old boy. promising him admission to harvard as long as he agreed to her advances. the boy repeatedly declined but that didn't stop her from texting and e-mailing him. >> this was extremely predatory behavior by the director of college guidance and a swim coach. >> there was no sexual contact involved except for a kiss. feeney has been fired from malvern prep and the school is cooperating. new information on a lawsuit stemming from this train derailment in gloucester county. it was in november of 2012 that seven conrail train cars derailed. 20,000 gallons of a hazardous chemical spilled. several residents sued conrail. some also sued csx and norfolk. the new ruling dismisses claims. a trial is scheduled for next month. from our delaware bureau, weighing in on a proposed cvs. it's slated for the intersection of paper mill and corner catch roads. the public meeting is in the hokessen firehall. cities including allentown and bethlehem, as well as northampton and lehigh counties are looking into whether 911 service should be shared. a study slated to begin in september will explore how merging the systems will work. allentown and bethlehem officials want to keep their own 911 centers. that could mean losing state funding. >> the new rumblings tonight about the future of chase utley. a group of gay and transgender cath thicks are told they can't gather at a philadelphia church. what the parish says was behind its decision. we have a breaking update on our weather station. regional rail service is suspended between willow grove and warminster station due to downed wires. we'll keep you posted on any new developments there. deja vu near tampa florida, this gaping hole has opened in the very same spot where a sinkhole swallowed a sleeping man two years ago. it's 20 feet wide and just as deep. it's on a vacant lot surrounded by a fence. the lot once held three homes. the crews demolished those homes in 2013. that after a man was swallowed by a sinkhole that opened up as he slept in his bed. his body was never found. florida's porous ground makes it highly susceptible to sinkholes. what caused a motel 6 near seattle to explode yesterday. the ntsb has begun an investigation that could take up to two weeks. the gas worker is in critical condition, the firefighters are recovering at home. the headlines we're following on the pope's visit to philadelphia. not in our church. that's the word from a local parish, about a gathering for gay and trans trender catholics. it had agreed to let a group of gay catholics use their space next month. now the parish has pulled the invitation. in a statement to nbc10, the archdiocese says it made the decision to rescind its offer after asking the archdiocese for guidance and that sponsored activities should reflect the teachings of the church. catholic groups counter it's against the pope's teachings. >> this is a clear illustration that the pope's teachings are not being accepted by the archdiocese of philadelphia. >> the advocacy group tells us the united methodist church on arch street will open its doors for the group's workshops during the pope's visit. if you didn't get septa regional rail passes, here's your chance. septa announced it will begin in person sales for one-day regional rail passes this friday. passes are $10 each, riders can purchase up to 10 passes for each day while supplies last. let's talk about delaware, they were bracing for a lot of tourists. kmeet to philadelphia for the pope's visit. >> it's been kind of a bust. delaware bureau reporter tim furlong joins us to explain the disappointment in delaware. >> let's talk about that, it's disappointing, let's throw in the phrase so far. delaware telephone operators are hoping it lives up to the usual expectations. see this empty hotel room in new castle? it might still be empty when the pope gets to philly. >> the amount of demand we've gotten is less than expected. >> he says even philly hotels still have space, and so delaware and other philly buschs aren't getting the boom they have. >> the overflow is something we would be totally booked up by this point. but we haven't seen that yet. >> i think we're seeing the effect of overhype. >> bill sullivan runs the courtyard hotel. too much hype, plus, too much scary talk about traffic boxes and long walks to see the pope. he thinks all these factors have driven down the numbers. that said delaware hotel operators are hoping for last minute impulse road trippers. >> it's a chance of a lifetime for anybody to see the pope. >> at the end of the day, you have a lot of people deciding where we're going. >> some hotel operators told me they don't think the world meeting of families crowd seem to be the type looking to spend a lot on their accommodations. he thinks they watered down the philadelphia portion of the pope's visit. delaware hotels would love to host you if you decide you need a room. tim furlong, nbc10 news. even though most of the area is dry right now, we are dealing with heavy rain especially in bucks county. we do have localized flooding at the moment. mostly through bucks county. this should be moving out pretty soon here, evening thunderstorms, those are going to stay in the forecast too. some of those could be locally heavy, we've seen pretty heavy rainfall. we have an update on the tropics for you. we have a flash flood warning out for bucks county. including buckingham, warminster, right across the pa turnpi turnpike, we've already seen 1 to 2 inches so far in this area. we still have that storm sitting here, this is going to go until 7:30 tonight. this is causing quite a bit of problems in this area. especially in bucks county. you see the heavy rain. we're looking at the heavy rain shown in red here, that's around kno nockamixon to rockingham. the rain is getting lighter here, we have seen some improvements in lower montgomery county. we're looking at possibly flooded roadways in that area. we have rain continues from dover to bauers. this shore has been sitting in the same area, not a lot of movement, that's been the case with a lot of rain today. we've seen it develop, and rain itself out. that's what we're waiting for in bucks county now. we're waiting for that rainshower to rain itself out and move off into new jersey. in the meantime, it's dropping very heavy rainfall. a lot of wet weather over the eastern half of the country. and we are under the same weather pattern you see to our south, a lot of mugginess, humidity, and the rain is going to stay in the forecast. >> this is tropical storm danny. doesn't look incredibly organized, but still heading in the same direction west around 10 miles an hour, here's the updated storm track on tropical storm danny, continuing to head west as we go over the weekend. you see that cone is still stretch a little further north. we'll have a better idea as we go into the weekend. even by monday, still going to be pretty far away from the united states. of course, we'll keep updating you on that. the rain should be coming to an end across the area, by 9:00, 10:00 tonight. a lot of that starts to wind down. the mugginess sticks around. you see we're still locked into that same weather pattern for thursday. by later in the day thursday, there's a chance we could have another round of heavy showers and storms around. more rain as we go late into the early morning hours friday. heavy rain starts to approach from the west. that swings through in the early morning hours friday. i think the earlier part of the morning commute so far for your friday could be on the wet side. we start to clear out and dry out, as we go into your weekend. i think saturday is going to be off to a pretty good start. we have evening showers and storms around still, local flooding with a lot of the heavier showers too, this is mostly in bucks county at the moment. mid-70s for the low in philadelphia. then tomorrow, another muggy day, showers and storms stay in the forecast. mostly in the afternoon hours. temperatures will be breaking out of the heat wave. mid-80s today, we got to 92 degrees in philadelphia. we go into friday. mid-80s, showers around in the morning. then we dry out. more clouds moving back in, saturday and sunday, we're going to throw some rain chances in the forecast. we'll take a look at your phillies. >> what's the latest here, amy? >> it appears the chase utley area is approaching its end. a trade is currently being worked on. here's utley today just about an hour ago at citizens bank park. phillies insider is reporting the doctors are the focal point of the trade talks regarding utley. if he were to be treated to l.a., it's something he would have to approve. jimmy rollins was traded there in the offseason. checking in on the eagles, they held their first of three joint practices this week, with the baltimore ravens. no fistacuffs today as there were between the cowboys and rams we saw yesterday. the eagles will hold two more practices with the ravens in the second preseason game at lincoln financial field. we'll have all the latest coming up, and more on the eagles five put on a good show, organizers of the next beach concert in atlantic city are making changes for tomorrow's show. five local high schools score big. the annual newsweek list acknowledges that one school in delaware, 17 in pennsylvania and four high schools in new jersey for high achievement and college readiness. number 15 on the list of top 100 high schools in america is turner school of wilmington. lower merion high school on the main line ranks 64th, 84th place went to haddonfield high school. cherry hill high east grab the 8th spot. i want you to take a look at this right now. superheros went to new heights to bring smiles to the faces of kids in lancaster today. when they repelled it down. they were distressed as superheros, batman, spiderman, captain america. they seemed to enjoy just as much as the young patients did. >> they're just happy. they forget about being in the hospital. >> they were having fun. it's taking their mind off of what's happening in the building. >> this is the second year in a row that the window washers have visited the hospital. pretty cool for those kids. we have heavy rain for part of the area. especially if you're in bucks county. coming up, we'll talk more about it, and what can you expect for the rest of the evening. then, all new at 6:00, the start of school is just weeks of way, and still no pennsylvania budget. the possible compromise offered today that could end the stalemate. part of the region is seeing heavy showers tonight. >> this is a preview of much more rain to come, right? >> later in the week. mainly thursday afternoon and very early friday. in the meantime we're dealing with rain through bucks county. this is a larger area of heavy rain, only about 30 minutes ago, it's really making some improvements, it's becoming lighter now, you can see that in the green coloring. that rain has really lightened up. nockamixon seeing lighter rain. we still have flash flood warnings out until 7:30. we've seen localized flooding possibly with one to two inches over the pa turnpike. even though conditions have improved, we have the heavy rain from earlier. lower montgomery county into central bucks county. that's going to go until 7:30. there we saw the trend of it, it stuck around for a while, quite a bit of lightning, the improvements are continuing to come, although we have one heavier shower developing around the area. not everyone is seeing the rain, new jersey is mainly dry. lehigh valley mainly dry, much of delaware is dry, and we'll continue with that trend as we go intoed later parts of this evening. a lot of the rainshowers will be coming to an end very soon. hot and humid day for much of the area. areas like dover with the rainfall have cooled down to 75 degrees, philadelphia is still at 89 degrees. trenton at 77 with that rainfall as well. as we go through the rest of the evening, it will stay humid even though some of the skies may be clearing up. if you see the rain around, 6:00 p.m., mid-80s. still a chance of scattered showers or storms by 8:00 p.m. still humid, still the chance of a shower. coming up, we'll talk about the rain chances for the rest of the week. how your weekend's shaping up, we're changing that forecast a bit too. and also check out the tropics. too an update from our jersey shore bureau. maroon five were rocking on the beach. they ran into a few problems. >> organizers are making a few changes before tomorrow's concert starring rascal flats. this is an updated concert site map that just came out this afternoon. this time some ticket holders will be able to enter the venue much closer to the stage. ♪ >> many fans and concert organizers believe it was a smashing success. sunday's maroon 5 beach concert in atlantic city, still prompted changes for tomorrow's rascal flats show in the same place. >> some people who came right around 5:45, there was security lines. >> some concert goers, who arrived shortly before adam levine and company started rocking the sand complained the venue was so packed, they couldn't get to the preferred general admission area closer to the stage for which they paid higher ticket prices. >> of course, the show was taking place, so people wanted to get in quicker. >> reporter: tomorrow instead of just one gin admission entrance, those with preferred tickets can also use entrances closer to the stage at michigan and ohio avenues that were previously just for people going to private tents. >> what we anticipate is probably people will come a little late, so we still want them to honor today for a group that works to build up struggling neighborhoods. neighbor works is a national group that supports community development. the organization drew more than 2,000 people to the pennsylvania convention center this week. the group trains nonprofits how to become financially stable with the focus of providing housing. >> continue to provide housing support, change lives and strejen communities. >> the mayor encouraged everyone to return to philadelphia for its next election. the bridge will be down to one lane, it will stay that way until december, the saint jones river. the work begins on monday. the path would connect into camden and delaware. five possible designs have emerged into a competition to build a national world war ii memorial in washington. one of the designs comes from a studio in state college pennsylvania. judges announce the five finalists today. these are rendering of the designs, a design competition drew 350 entries. congress has dedicated a part near the white house to be dedicated as the first world war monument. the news got worse for fire weary washington state. nbc10 national correspondent leanne gregg tells us, red flags went up today in areas already hit hard by wildfires. >> crews digging lines and starting backfires to control the blaze. from the air, dozens of drops per hour. crews are bracing for winds to pick up dramatically this afternoon. more than 40 have already burned. >> it's not the same, it will never be the same. >> the lightning sparked blaze began last week. the economic impact on the town of shalan that depends on tourism is staggering. >> it's a huge hit. >> restaurants and resorts usually crowded are empty. >> driving through town this weekend it was a ghost town. >> crews were called in to help contain more than 90 wildfires in the west. >> we have brought in aircraft, we have brought in hand crews, dozer lines. >> officials say this is part of a new trend. >> our fire season is about 78 days longer than it was three decades ago. and not only are we seeing more fire, but we're seeing larger catastrophic fires. >> across the west, massive wildfires straining resources as crews your feedback. hackers that made good on their threats. how they're exposing customers who used a popular website to cheat on their spouses. hackers threatened to expose the identity of cheaters after stealing the information from the website, ashley madison. the hackers claim to have posted the information on a hard to access part of the web. the release includes names, adresses, credit card numbers and log-ins for up to 32 million users. the site is known for helping people have extra marital affairs. the owners acknowledges the hack and said they're investigating the release of personal information. reviews you know these days are everywhere. >> you can log on and sound off. >> now you can actually do the same thing with the federal government. citizens should review u.s. government agencies on yelp. that's the hope of the general services administration, believing the reviews will improve service. taxpayers can complain about the wait times for passports and post their thoughts on tsa screeners. look for yelp and the section marked public services and government. you've probably never seen a panda ultrasound before, i think it's a safe bet to take, right? one zoo is it watching it closely as they wait for the big news about one of their animals. we're also talking about heavy rains across part of the area. coming up, i'll show you where it's heading, when it will washington's national zoo say they believe it shows a furry new bundle of joy on the way opinion they detected what they believe is a fetus there on your screen. she could deliver as early as next month. she already has two cubs. >> no one can resist free water ice, which is what police officers from the 18th district expected this afternoon, when they handed out 250 free cups of the popular treat. southwest philly residents tell us the water ice was appreciated on this hot day. >> you do need some of that or especially water to stay hydrated, because we're still in the heat wave. tomorrow that's going to change. today we've seen local flooding around with heavy rain. not everyone has seen the heavy rain. for the rest of this evening, we're going to keep showers and storms in the forecast. and we also have the tropical storm out well off in the atlantic, even by the weekend. it will only be mirroring the caribbean. we'll have more updates on that as we go through the weekend as well. we have the flooding threat. this is a flash flood warning through parts of central bucks, montgomery county. into central bucks county. be careful in that area for any localized flooding. it all came from heavy rain, which is now really moved up to the north. we're seeing conditions improve pretty quickly for bucks county. lower montgomery county right near abington, there is heavier showers starting to form there. there's a look at the heavier rain that moved through. the heavy rain causing the local flooding has moved out. we have more heavy rain developing. close to the pa turn bike, we'll be watching this one closely, it is pretty much moving over the same area where we have that warning out still. the rest of the area, new jersey, delaware, much of us north and west of philadelphia, still on the dryer side. for the rest of this evening, scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. future weather clears a lot of this out by 9:00 to 10:00 tonight. early tomorrow morning, the clouds are around, wouldn't be surprised if there were a few early showers. the best chance will be in the afternoon. we could see scattered thunderstorms around. and then we go into midnight into friday. this is when we expect most of the rain to get here, overnight into early friday morning, the rain will pass through, some of that could be locally heavy, by the later part of the morning commute 37 a lot of this should be moving away. for the rest of the day friday. going into saturday, most of the areas starts off dry. notice how some rain tries to move back in along the shore. we're going to be watching one thing going into the weekend. for your thursday and friday, the reason we're going to be staying all muggy, we have a cold front approaching as we go to the end of the week. once the front passes, we'll start to clear out. this is close enough, and intensifies enough, this front can hang close enough to still bring us rain as we go into part of your weekend, and some of that rain can start to filter back inland. we'll be watching your weekend forecast closely. >> as far as the shore and delaware beaches are concerned, we're going to throw in a chance of showers because of that. temperatures mostly cloudy, for the eagles game this saturday. conditions are looking pretty good. pregame, temperatures in the low 80s, we could have those showers trying to move back in in the evening hours. temperatures about the upper 70s, and the fourth quarter, temperatures in the mid-70s. tropical storm danny really quick, this storm is continuing to head to the west. possibly as a hurricane, still pretty far out, we'll be updating that for you as well as we get closer too. still very far away from the united states. >> evening showers and storms, temperatures mid to low 70s. we break out of the heat wave, that's good news. mid-80s thursday and friday. temperatures mid to low 80s, more clouds start to move back in we'll be watching for those weekend rain chances. pope francis will be visited by a growing number of priests next month. a significant increase in the number of people being called to religious lives. 20 new semin arianes. the number brought a large applause to today's gathering. >> this is a three fold increase over last year. and it is the highest number of priestly vocations in the archdiocese in philadelphia in more than 10 years. >> the archdiocese also announced the new vocation program, it's titled called by name. it brings forward parishioners for religious life. the program will launch this fall. feeding the fans, we're used to burgers, hot dogs and those yummy chickies and pete's fries. a look at the new menu for the season, and the team it takes to bring it all together. pope francis is known for reaching across religious boundaries. >> jim rosenfield was the first local journalist to report. you have a chance to talk to the pope's closest friends? >> we did. and pope francis gets a lot of credit at home for walking the walk when it comes to openness about others. not only did the pope have his own interfaith television show, he wrote a best selling book with abraham, one of his closest friends. >> he embraced interfaith events and conversation as well. he's lighting the menorah at a the archbishop. he talked that day about everyone working together on common goals. now, i spoke with one of the religious leaders at that event. rabbi of the oldest synagogue in argentina. he's a member of parliament in argentina, we talked about the pope's message when he comes here to philadelphia. >> how do you think he will be accepted and will play there, if you will? >> i think he doesn't make any distinction about the countries. because he connects with the count country. the outreach support, for people who have nothing. capitalism is away, it's not the end. >> rabbi bergman echoed what became a theme for us when we were in argentina learning about francis. the pope is a powerful communicator, has a way of appealing to people from all walks of faith, really. >> the pope did something very special for that, which was completely unexpected? >>
