We now know the ten candidates who made the cut for the first Republican Debate in primetime this thursday. You can see the stage positions right there. And just in time for that debate, jeb bush may have ignited a new flashpoint in the race for president with comments he made today about funding Womens Health programs. Remarks immediately pounced on by Hillary Clinton. Nbc News National correspondent Peter Alexander starts us off. Reporter on the day that republicans learned the final cut for thursdays primetime debate Hillary Clinton is blasting jeb bush for his call today to defund planned parenthood. The deaths of a father and his young daughter when a circus tent collapsed on them during a thunderstorm in New Hampshire last night. Today weve learned that according to investigators the circus did not have the proper permits. Ron allen reports on that circus tragedy and todays shocking discovery. Reporter investigators say the Walker Brothers circus did not have the legally required permits to put up the big top that collapsed, killing two and injuring some two dozen spectators. Jonathan young lost his little sister annabelle and his dad robert in a storm that forecasters called a microburst. Winds gust possibly up to 90 miles per hour. Thunder, hail. A crowd of 100 under the circus tent and its heavy steel beams, the show just getting under way when disaster struck. The tent came down. The beam came down on top of my father, crushed his skull. The National Weather service had issued a severe storm warning some 20 minutes before the show started. Given the weather warning, should this show have been stopped . This past weekend one person died, 15 injured when a tent used for shelter in Severe Weather at a music fair collapsed in suburban chicago. Last year several trapped, many injured at a Church Festival in michigan. In 2012 in st. Louis one person killed, more than 100 injured when a beer garden tent crumpled in a thunderstorm. That was the first time ive ever been and ill never go again. It was supposed to storm and heavy winds and stuff, they shouldnt have had it in the first place. Reporter Authorities Say the Walker Brothers circus is cooperating with the investigation. And in brooklyn, new york a sinkhole, though officials have yet to determine if it was caused by the storm that tore through the city last night and lit up the skies. On the other side of the country the effort to tame a stubborn and unpredictable wildfire remains an uphill battle, burning at what fire officials now call an explosive rate. In california alone 23 large fires are burning out of control and they are spreading in frightening ways. Nbcs joe fryer is there. Reporter the winddriven flames are moving closer to the town of clearlake and surrounding neighborhoods. There have even been some instances of firenados, dangerous spirals of flame that suck in debris and shoot out hot embers for miles. They occur when groundlevel winds come in contact with an intense fire, whipping flames into the air, creating a column of bright red and orange. All the little red dots are just hot spots in the center of the fire. Reporter this outbreak part of an increasing trend in legionnaires. The cdc says the number of cases jumped nearly 200 from 2000 to 2009. The legionnellea bacteria occur naturally usually in warm water found in hot water tanks, large Plumbing Systems and airconditioning cooling towers where water is passed over a heat exchanger, putting a mist in the air that can carry the disease away from the building. How do you get it . Its as easy as breathing in air containing microscopic water droplets carrying the disease that inflame the lungs. Most residents are not at risk of contracting legionnaires disease. It is not spread it from person to person. Reporter today new york mayor bill de blasio called for citywide inspections of cooling towers. What can we do to stop this increase in legionnaires disease . The way to stop legionnaires disease is to test for legionnella bacteria in water systems. So the proposal by mayor de blasio to test cooling towers will go a long way to preventing legionnaires disease. Investigators continue to scour the beaches of reunion island hoping to find pieces of flight mh370 and debris, some of it intriguing, keeps turning up, including this piece of plastic found today. Theres no indication that it is from the missing flight or even from an airplane. The piece of wing found last week confirmed to be from a boeing 777. Thats now in france, where it will be closely examined beginning tomorrow. Its being called a potential game changer in the war against isis. The ability to launch u. S. According to the aclu, the 8yearold boy, who has adhd, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, was shackled last november for disabilityrelated difficulties obeying his teacher.
