hoping luck will be on their side. randy gyllenhaal is live tonight. you spoke to commuters eager to get one of those passes. >> reporter: denise the critical thing to know is most stations that day will be closed. only a few hubs will be open to pick up passengers. conshohocken is usually busy. people may have to go to chestnut hill if they're lucky enough to get a pope pass in the first place. in less than an hour you can head to septa's website and enter the lottery for the chance to win a pope pass on the regional rail. the golden tigckets will be in high demand. not just for pope fans but locals who commute into the city for work. you have to work into the city that weekend? >> i do. people are talking about what the situation will be. >> reporter: todd works in hospitality. he's going to try his luck on the website. >> i heard about the situation they had before. little hesitant about that. i'm going to try again, just in case. >> reporter: if he wins a ticket the real work begins. he'll need to choose one of the few hub stations to start his trip. septa will only have 31 open a fraction of what they usually operate. once you get into center city prepare for quite a hike. you will start at one of a handful of stations like 30th street, jefferson oruniversity city. then you'll begin the long walk. probably a mile maybe more to get to the security entrances for the event. once it's all done you've seen the pope, you're going to have to walk all the way back again to catch your train home. needless to say, wear some comfortable shoes. for those that don't win a ticket maybe a subway or a trolley. >> if i have to i'll just drive, i guess. i'm afraid to drive, too, because everything will probably be closed down. >> reporter: the city says driving is basically a terrible idea. roads will be closed. no cars will be allowed in the safe zone. your best bet is in an hour to sign up for a pope pass. you'll find out on thursday if you've won. randy gyllenhaal, with his friends, colleagues and critics to learn more about the man who became the people's pope. that's tuesday at 7:00 p.m. on nbc 10. philadelphia police are searching for a driver who hit a little girl and took off. it happened just before 5:00 tonight along lambert street in north philadelphia. investigators say an suv hit the 5-year-old then the driver reversed and took off from the scene. medics rushed the child to the hospital where she is in stable condition tonight. the vehicle is described as a light-colored suv or jeep with the following possible pa tag number. jsg-6673. anyone with information on the vehicle should call police. a a single car crash certain people to the hospital tonight. two of the victims were critically hurt. the suv flipped over and came to a stop in the center median on interstate 95 in yardley. it happened around 7:00 tonight. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. nbc 10 learned a couple found dead after setting out on a canoe trip in maine was from bucks county. the couple is 58-year-old roy carlisle and 53-year-old judith carlisle. the coast guard says they were both wearing life jackets, however, their canoe has not been found. a fisherman discovered roy's body yesterday morning. judith's body was found early this morning. this is video of chandler bay where the carlisles went canoeing. the marine control says the couple owns a camp in the area. autopsies will be performed to determine how they died. a coast guard helicopter crew pulled a man to safety after he spent four hours treading water off the coast of cape may last night. another boat found the 45-year-old man and pulled him from the water. then the coast guard chopper arrived and hoisted the man up and took him to the hospital. no word on his are changes headed our way. let's check in with first alert meet rolgtsteorologist brittany shipp. >> our humidity is going to go up as we head into tomorrow. 90 degrees, meaning day six. as we return back to work monday the temperatures will bump up to a high of 93 degrees. with the return of the humidity so it'll feel hotter. 91 will be the high into tuesday. it's probably going to be the last day we're dealing with temperatures above 90 degrees. your future temperatures show by 7:00 a.m. temperatures in the low 70s. 71 degrees in allentown. high 60s in the poconos. by lunch, we're close to 90 degrees. 87 will be the temperature around lunchtime. the other thing i'm tracking besides the return of the humidity as we head into tomorrow, i'm tracking showers. i'll let you know the possibility of storms into monday afternoon. what to expect is coming up in my seven-day forecast. day one of eagles training camp is now in the books. some new faces joined the team but it was former afternoon around 3:00 on the 8600 block in bustleton. officials will be out to make repairs tomorrow. until then they delivered bottled water to affected residents. a vandal in the city of brotherly love had no love for hitch bot. he was going for a cross country journey. the canadian researcher who created hitch bot as a social experiment said someone in philadelphia damaged the robot beyond repair. the robot was trying to successfully travel across the u.s. the journey came to an end after two weeks in the u.s. but not before gaining 46,000 followers on twitter. >> there were so many killing a lion in zimbabwe sparking outrage over big game hunting. cecil may be the most famous to die at the hands of an american trophy hunter, but authorities say he was not the first. wildlife officials have accused a second american, pennsylvania doctor of illegally killing another lion back in april. nbc news has not been able to reach him for comment. the african-american government plans to extradite minnesota dentist walter palmer for killing a well-known lion in early july. they say he didn't have authorization to kill the lion cecil. the zimbabwe government suspend suspended tomorrow the humidity is going to return. we're still going to stay hot. tracking at least two to three more days of these temperatures at or above 90 degrees. also tracking the return of storms. we've been dry, as well, for the past few days. here's a look at the warm temperatures and a long heat wave. started last week on tuesday. high of 93 degrees. we've been going strong ever since. even today, we officially saw a high of 90 degrees. the average for this time of year is 87. into tomorrow we expect another 90 degree day. 93. it'll feel warmer as we head into tomorrow. right now for philadelphia 78 degrees. a few clouds. our temperatures are going to continue to climb back into the low 90s as we head into tomorrow. the wind speeds out of the south-southwest, 8 miles per hour. the humidity is up. the wind direction is going to be important. we are going to see warmer air moving up and also more moist air. 68 degrees currently in the poconos. 76 6 74 in reading. mild evening if you're close to the northeast philly. temperatures along the shore at 76 degrees in beechhaven. quiet conditions. yesterday, we were dealing with the isolated thunderstorms closer to cape may. now, a few clouds streaming by. most of the severe weather is off to the northwest of us. as we head into tomorrow closer to the afternoon, morning is not affected, it will be a sunny start, but around 5:00 p.m. is when we'll see a chance for storms into parts of the poconos and slowly crossing over newcastle county. on and off showers expected into monday night. we'll see more clearing into our overnight hours on monday heading into tuesday morning. tuesday/wednesday, we expect to stay dry. if you plan on heading down to the beach or shore, we'll see temperatures around 90 degrees. mid 80s as you head down to atlantic city. the highs around the region tomorrow in the low 90s. 93 in philadelphia. again, notice the wind direction. we are going to see the warmer air coming up from the south. it's where we're going to get our increased humidity levels. as far as tonight is concerned, we are going to see temperatures at 68 degrees, partly cloudy. 62 the low for the suburbs to the north and west. tomorrow will range between 91 and 94. sunny and humid. the seven-day forecast shows we will see afternoon and evening storms as a possible. we will start to see the heat wave breaking 10. wildfires in several western states crewed up forests and threatened homes. most of the fires are burning in northern california. the so-called rocky fire has more than doubled in the past 24 hours. it scorched 73 square miles and destroyed two dozen homes. more than 12,000 residents have been told to evacuate. dry conditions and shifting winds are not helping. nearly 2,000 firefighters are battling the immense blazes. >> that is an unbelievable amount of acreage burned in such a short amount of time. again, it's because of these drought conditions allowing fires like that one and like all the others that we're responding to to grow so quickly. >> the fire is only 5% contained. wildfires are also burning in washington and oregon. at home, we're dealing with a heat wave but changes are on the way. we'll go to first alert meteorologist brittany shipp. another hot day. >> another hot day on top for tomorrow. we officially hit a high of 90 degrees. we're staying hot. this heat wave started last tuesday. today is day six. yesterday, we saw temperatures at 90. the average is 87. as we push into tomorrow, we will see temperatures bumping up, and the humidity returns. notice the wind direction heading into tomorrow. more moisture heading into our region. expect temperatures from philadelphia to reach a high of 93 degrees. right along the shore at the atlantic city airport, 90 degrees. closer to 89 in wild wood. the other thing i'm tracking along with the heat and humidity is our chance for isolated thunderstorms as we get into monday afternoon and evening. i'll go over the details on that. let you know what to expect as we head into your monday evening. i'm also going to be tracking the humidity returning and when this heat wave will end. that's coming up in my full forecast. we have new information about a woman found shot to death in an suv in kensington early yesterday. police identified the victim as a 32-year-old peralta. she was found in the driver's seat at coral and rush streets. police are looking for the shooter. we also have new information on a bucks county student who was hit and killed while trying to catch her school bus last year. 18-year-old michael shelley was convicted of vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter. the high school student ignored a school bus stop sign. he hit a 16-year-old sending her body more than 100 feet into the air. in delaware, police are looking for an armed robbery who targeted a liquor store. this suspect walked into the store shortly before 11:00 last night. he approached the counter with a gun and demanded cash from the clerk. police say he got away with an unknown amount of money. no one was hurt. out in wichita, kansas a 9-year-old bat boy for an amateur baseball team remains in the hospital after he was hit in the head by a bat. it happened yesterday afternoon when kaiser carlisle ran on to the field to retrieve a bat. he got too close to a player who was warming up. the player did not notice the boy and accidentally hit him during a practice swing. >> hit him in the helmet knocked him down. he got back up but he went right back down again. everybody came out and helped him. >> an ambulance rushed kaiser to the hospital, and he's being treated in the intensive care unit. verizon and unions representing workers in nine states say employees will stay on the job, even though the contract expiresd. covering 39,000 workers, including pennsylvania new jersey and delaware expired at midnight. the union is rejecting demands that workers increase their health care contributions and make concessions on pensions. pennsylvania is in its fifth week of budget stalemate and the state's social services are preparing for cuts. county and non-profit agencies are deciding which services might stop or if workers might be laid off. to keep things going, some counties may front the money and some workers may go unpaid. this is the third time in 12 years social service agencies are feeling the brunt of a budget deadlock. the va medical center wants you to see the changes its made over the past year. officials are hosting a press day event tomorrow to showcase the progress and accomplishments. along with plans for moving the organization forward and attendees will learn about the services being offered to veterans throughout the tri-state area. shooting of a memphis police officer. a man hunt is now underway after police identified the alleged shooter. plus the count down is on until the 2016 summer games. there are concerns about whether heard bang bang, bang. >> reporter: the 33-year-old officer was shot repeatedly and despite a bullet proof vest, later pronounced dead at the hospital. the first call for help came on his own police radio from a bystander. >> please please hurry up. >> they actually picked up the police radio and spoke into it and got the police to come out because all of the neighbors on that side were trying to call 911 but they couldn't get through. >> reporter: the first cop on scene franticly called for help. >> officer down. >> the officer is down or the suspect? >> call an ambulance. >> ambulance is in route. >> reporter: witness reports the gunman may have been in the front passenger seat. >> the only description we have two males black, last seen running westbound. >> reporter: detectives say the trigger man remains at large. this is the second police officer in tennessee killed in the line of duty just in year. nationwide 70 officers have been killed this year doing their jobs. >> there's a theme, do black lives matter? at the end of the day, we have to ask ourselves, do all lives matter? >> this again, evidences the fact that there are so many guns on our streets in the wrong hands. >> reporter: officer bolton had no dash camera or body camera. the equipment is digited for next year. an iraq war vet, police officer in memphis for almost five years, gunned down in the city he grew up. nbc news. malaysian officials are asking for help from other islands near where the suspected piece of the missing malaysian airlines plane was discovered in an effort to recover more debris. it >> good evening. temperatures stayed hot for us all weekend. heading into the work week, we are going to continue to see hot conditions, plus the humidity will return. i'm also tracking storms as we head into tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. a bit of an unsettled weather pattern as we head into next week. right now, outside, you can see just a few clouds from philadelphia. the humidity is at 58%. winds out of the south-southwest at 8 miles per hour. poconos, 74. low 70s in mount holly. 74 in atlantic city. 73 in dover. still a mild evening out. our temperatures will drop into the high 60s into the rest of this evening. the end is near with the heat wave, but we're tracking at least two more days with temperatures in the 90s. today, we were at 90 degrees officially. this is day six of the heat wave that started last week all the way back to last tuesday. our satellite radar shows quiet conditions. few clouds moving through parts of south jersey. as we head into tomorrow we'll see plenty of sunshine to start but change is on the way into the afternoon and evening. by 5:00 p.m. we are going to track a chance of isolated thunderstorms from the poconos to allentown. this is going to shift to the east throughout the rest of the evening. on and off showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. starting to clear up into the early morning hours on tuesday. tuesday during the day and wednesday will stay dry. we will see a few cold fronts move through, and that's going to help drop our temperatures and break the heat wave. relief is in sight. it's not going to happen
