86 mostly sunny. by 6:00 87 degrees. a hot one today, more humid on monday and more hotter. keeping the heat wave going on tuesday, finally a break in the temperatures. that's all the straight ahead. philadelphia police are investigating a crash that critically injured a man along busy henry avenue in the city's roxborough section. it happened around 3:45 this morning when the man was hit by a car. the driver of that car did stop and is cooperating with police. preparing for the pope means that today folks are getting ready to buy one of septa's special regional rail passes for the papal visit. the passes go on sale this evening, just after midnight. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at 30th street station. you've been talking to passengers and exploring the pitfalls once people get to center city. >> a lot of people we talked to this morning say they are bracing for the crush of crowds that come when people come to town to see the leader of the roman catholic church. >> it's a very special occasion. i think people understand that security needs to be very tight. >> to that end, septa is restricting service to just 18 of its regional rail stations. trains will express into and out of three stops near papal activities september 26th and 27th to ride passengers need to enter a 24-hour lottery from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. winners will be allow ed toed to purchase a $10 papal pass. >> there's no need to stay up so you can log on to the lottery. you can do it any time during the day. >> reporter: only 300,000 passes will be sold. trains to 30th street station could still mean a half hour walk to the art museum for the mass. security trumps those concerns when someone of this cache comes to town. >> it's annoying but it's what you get when you have the in town. >> reporter: a few weeks ago, septa tried to sell the passes on its site but demand was so high that the site crashed. now personnel are hoping they have more success with the lottery. the the man who would become pope. that's this tuesday at 7:00 p.m. on nbc 10. verizon employees say they will work without a contract while the unions that represent them and the wireless carriers schedule more negotiations. the decision comes after a contract covering nearly 40,000 workers expired just before midnight. that contract affects employees from massachusetts to virginia, including pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. this weekend family and friends are remembering the three young victims who were passengers in a crash that philadelphia police are calling a case of street racing. the community came together for a vigil last night at the scene of the crash near red lion road in bustleton. there they remembered 17-year-old yvette gonzalez, and 20-year-old felip hernandez. the family members of the third victim, sabrina rhoads, tell us the circumstances of this incident are heartbreaking. >> great kid, man. 17 years old. she had everything ahead of her. she was going in the right direction. >> police say new surveillance video shows two cars going at a high rate of speed before the crash. investigators have some new information on the second car that took off from the scene. they believe it's a dark blue or black bmw. police are trying to track down the driver and passengers inside that car. this morning parents in the city of chester are outraged after 10-year-old boy was shot at a community swimming pool. a 17-year-old was running after three young boys yesterday afternoon, chasing them, and opening fire near the memorial park and pool. the 10-year-old was grazed in the stomach and is now in stable condition. several chester city workers helped police catch the teen shooter. authorities have now charged him as an adult. there are new clues this morning about what may have led to the plane crash last year that killed philadelphia inquirer co-owner lewis katz. according to the owner, the plane had a flaw that allowed it to reach high speeds while unable to take off but gulf stream airspace corporation blames the may 2014 crash on the crew's actions. six other people in addition lewis katz were killed. the newspaper reports that the faa is working with gulf stream on design changes for the 500 planes still in service. today training camp gets underway for the eagles. players will hit the field for the first time at the battled cancer. he died in may. pennsylvania is in its fifth president obama is calling it the most significant step the u.s. has taken to fight global warming. tomorrow the president plans to finalize a rule that will require power plants to cut greenhouse gas emissions even more than previously mandated. in his initial proposal president obama called for a 30% nationwide cut in carbon social services are preing for some cuts. some county and non-profit agencies are deciding which services might stop or if workers must be laid off. some counties may front the money and some workers officer in tennessee. this happened in memphis last night. emergency crews rushed the officer to the hospital where he later died. police identified the slain officer as 33-year-old sean bolton. he been with the memphis police department for the past five years. >> just said thatny was going whiteney was going to haunt her from the grave. >> family tensions flared yesterday at the funeral of bobbi kristina brown. bobby brown's sister stormed out of the church. she was angry that whitney houston's sister-in-law spoke at the service. 22-year-old bobbi kristina was the only child of bobby brown and whitney houston. bobbi kristina died in hospice care on july 26th, six months after she was found unconscious out this kansas a 9-year-old bat boy for an amateur baseball team is in critical condition this morning after he was hit in the head by a bat. this happened yesterday afternoon when kaiser carlyle, you see him pictured there, ran on to the field to retrieve a bat. witnesses say he got too close to a player who was warming up. that player didn't notice the boy and accidentally hit him during a practice swing. >> hit him in the helmet. knocked him down. he got back up. but he went right back down again. everybody came out and helped him. >> an ambulance rushed kaiser to the hospital. he is now being treated in the intensive care unit. we have new information this morning in the death of cecil, the beloved lion in zimbabwe. officials have suspended the hunting of lions, leopards in the area where cecil was killed. crews are also investigating the killing of another lion in april that may have been illegal. they only received information about that killing this week. the announcements follow international outcry and a call to bring the american who killed cecil to justice. authorities say the hunt was illegal and are seeking the extradition of walter palmer, a dentist from minnesota. we are hours away from septa's sale of regional rail passes for the pope's buy one of septa's special regional rail passes for the papal visit. the passes go on sale this evening, just after midnight. jesse gary is live atth street station. he's been talking to commuters there this morning. what are you hearing? >> reporter: rosemary, whether a critic of the plan or supporter, people seem to understand that life will be disrupted when the pope comes to town. septa will be restricting service to 18 regional train stations. there will be three stops near papal activities on september 26th and 27th. riders will need to to enter a 24-hour lottery starting 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. there will still be lots of walking. from 30th street station, it's about a half mile walk over to the art museum for the pope's sunday mass. >> i'm not terribly upset about it. it's a minor inconvenience in light of the fact we're having a major person of international fame coming here international importance. >> you remember that septa tried to sell these passes a few weeks ago on its website, but demand was so high it swamped and crashed the website. now they'll try the lottery format beginning at 12:01 midnight into monday night. 12:01 a.m. is when you can apply for the papal passes. if you get the opportunity and you don't -- you're selected and you don't purchase the next person up the next person up in the system will be given the opportunity, so you employees say they will stay on the job despite not having a contract. both the unions wireless carrier say they will head back to the table for more talks. the decision comes after a contract covering nearly 40,000 workers expired just before midnight. that contract covers employees from massachusetts to virginia, including pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. one of the unions representing the workers says despite being a profitable company, verizon continues to eliminate job opportunity and drive down their standard of living. they say we are not going to take it. we're going to keep the fight going while working on the job. verizon says they are disappointed the groups did not come to an agreement and that the proposals are unrealistic and out of touch in today's marketplace. this weekend while family and friends are remembering the three young victims of this deadly crash, philadelphia police have some new clues in the crash. the community came together for a vigil last night to remember 17-year-old yvette gonzalez, 17-year-old, sabrina rhoads, and 20-year-old felip hernandez. according to police, the three victims were passengers in a car in which the driver was street racing. the victims family members became emotional as they pleaded with the public to put an end to these tragic kinds of crashes. >> we must show them how dangerous this is. this is not the first. i know it won't be the last. some of us don't learn. we need to learn. >> police now have surveillance video that shows two cars racing near red lion road in bustleton right before the accident earlier this week. they also have new information on the second car which took off from the scene. investigators say it appears to be a dark blue or black bmw. police are now trying to track down the driver and any passengers inside that car. this morning a 10-year-old boy remains in the hospital is stable after he was shot at a community swimming pool in chester. witnesses says a 17-year-old was chasing after three young boys yesterday afternoon and opened fire on them at the memorial park and pool. the 10-year-old was hit. several city workers caught the gunman. we just learned a short time ago that the 17-year-old is being charged as an adult. chester's mayor demands change. he says the city already confiscated 85 illegal guns this year, but the crimes continue. >> we have to stop this. you can't shoot up our city, you can't shoot little kids in the park. >> i don't know where they're getting these guns from, but the kids are the -- the teens are out of control. >> in another effort to cut down on crime, the city began installing the first of more than 100 planned surveillance cameras earlier this week. the mayor hopes it will speed up investigations and get criminals off the streets. tomorrow in philadelphia, testimony will resume in the trial of a man accused of murdering the person who answered his craigslist ad. thomas coffee faces a list of charges in the death of daniel cook. cook, who was from williamstown, gloucester county was gunned down in west oak lane in 2013. police says he was in the area with two friends to by an atv advertised on craigslist. when cook showed up for the sale, coffee robbed and killed him. a 17year-old boy from philadelphia who was kritcritically injured in a hit and run crash has been upgraded to stable condition. the driver could be facing more charges. the teen was crossing westminster avenue in west philadelphia around 1:30 yesterday morning when investigators say a gold buick lesabre hit him and took off. about an hour later officers stopped a similar vehicle, a vehicle matching that description reckless driving. that's when they spotted the car's heavy windshield damage and determined this was the car involved in the hit and run. the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. more charges are pending. crews continue their efforts to get control of wildfires burning in california. why it's still an uphill battle for the thousands of firefighters. and coming up next end of the road. this hitchhiking robot was designed as a nationwide social experiment but it's now philadelphia who ended an american tour for a hitchhiking robot. researchers created hitchbot as a special experiment that relied on the kindness of strangers to pick up the robot and pass it on to over travelers. it was headed across country, then yesterday the creators were sent an image of the robot and it was damaged beyond repair while in philadelphia. they say they don't know who destroyed died battling more than 20 major fires across the state. experts say with the hot and windy conditions, things can quickly change for the worse. >> we're here, seeing flame in excess of 100 feet. the drought is causing significant fire behavior in this area. a lot of this, though it seems rural, has quite a few homes. >> officials say with so many fires resources are stretched thin. so thin that berks county quarry has been found. rescue crews were called on friday night for a possible drowning. a man in his 20s was at the quarry with a friend when he jumped off a 100 foot tall cliff into the water. the friend went for help after the friend never surfaced. searchers found his body yesterday. we know the identity of a person hit and killed by a train near the levittown station yesterday morning. investigators tell us that george redner iii, an emt, was trespassing when he was killed on the tracks. family members and friends say redner was about to start classes at the philadelphia fire academy. this morning, there's a new push to revital camden. today u.s. senator bob menendez will tour the ephraim neighborhood with the camden mayor to discuss redevelopment plans. camden is finala finalist for a $30 million grant for redevelopment but owepponents is threatened by budget cuts. also in delaware, the congressional delegation is hosting a veterans job fair at middletown 86 mostly sunny. by 6:00 87 degrees. a hot one today, more humid on monday and more hotter. keeping the heat wave going on tuesday, finally a break in the temperatures. that's all the straight ahead. philadelphia police are investigating a crash that critically injured a man along busy henry avenue in the city's roxborough section. it happened around 3:45 this morning when the man was hit by a car. the driver of that car did stop and is cooperating with police. preparing for the pope means that today folks are getting ready to buy one of septa's special regional rail passes for the papal visit. the passes go on sale this evening, just after midnight. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at 30th street station. you've been talking to passengers and exploring the pitfalls once people get to center city. >> a lot of people we talked to this morning say they are bracing for the crush of crowds that come when people come to town to see the leader of the roman catholic church. >> it's a very special occasion. i think people understand that security needs to be very tight. >> to that end, septa is restricting service to just 18 of its regional rail stations. trains will express into and out of three stops near papal activities september 26th and 27th to ride passengers need to enter a 24-hour lottery from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. winners will be allow ed toed to purchase a $10 papal pass. >> there's no need to stay up so you can log on to the lottery. you can do it any time during the day. >> reporter: only 300,000 passes will be sold. trains to 30th street station could still mean a half hour walk to the art museum for the mass. security trumps those concerns when someone of this cache comes to town. >> it's annoying but it's what you get when you have the in town. >> reporter: a few weeks ago, septa tried to sell the passes on its site but demand was so high that the site crashed. now personnel are hoping they have more success with the lottery. the the man who would become pope. that's this tuesday at 7:00 p.m. on nbc 10. verizon employees say they will work without a contract while the unions that represent them and the wireless carriers schedule more negotiations. the decision comes after a contract covering nearly 40,000 workers expired just before midnight. that contract affects employees from massachusetts to virginia, including pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. this weekend family and friends are remembering the three young victims who were passengers in a crash that philadelphia police are calling a case of street racing. the community came together for a vigil last night at the scene of the crash near red lion road in bustleton. there they remembered 17-year-old yvette gonzalez, and 20-year-old felip hernandez. the family members of the third victim, sabrina rhoads, tell us the circumstances of this incident are heartbreaking. >> great kid, man. 17 years old. she had everything ahead of her. she was going in the right direction. >> police say new surveillance video shows two cars going at a high rate of speed before the crash. investigators have some new information on the second car that took off from the scene. they believe it's a dark blue or black bmw. police are trying to track down the driver and passengers inside that car. this morning parents in the city of chester are outraged after 10-year-old boy was shot at a community swimming pool. a 17-year-old was running after three young boys yesterday afternoon, chasing them, and opening fire near the memorial park and pool. the 10-year-old was grazed in the stomach and is now in stable condition. several chester city workers helped police catch the teen shooter. authorities have now charged him as an adult. there are new clues this morning about what may have led to the plane crash last year that killed philadelphia inquirer co-owner lewis katz. according to the owner, the plane had a flaw that allowed it to reach high speeds while unable to take off but gulf stream airspace corporation blames the may 2014 crash on the crew's actions. six other people in addition lewis katz were killed. the newspaper reports that the faa is working with gulf stream on design changes for the 500 planes still in service. today training camp gets underway for the eagles. players will hit the field for the first time at the him to launch a campaign, but that decision may not happen until after this month. talks about biden's possible run for the white house were put on hold earlier this year while his son, beau biden, battled cancer. he died in may. pennsylvania is in its fifth president obama is calling it the most significant step the u.s. has taken to fight global warming. tomorrow the president plans to finalize a rule that will require power plants to cut greenhouse gas emissions even more than previously mandated. in his initial proposal president obama called for a 30% nationwide cut in carbon social services are preing for some cuts. some county and non-profit agencies are deciding which services might stop or if workers must be laid off. some counties may front the money and some workers bobbi kristina brown. bobby brown's sister stormed out of the church. she was angry that whitney houston's sister-in-law spoke at the service. 22-year-old bobbi kristina was the only child of bobby brown and whitney houston. bobbi kristina died in hospice care on july 26th, six months after she was found unconscious out this kansas a 9-year-old bat boy for an amateur baseball team is in critical condition this morning after he was hit in the head by a bat. this happened yesterday afternoon when kaiser carlyle, you see him pictured there, ran on to the field to retrieve a bat. witnesses say he got too close to a player who was warming up. that player didn't notice the boy and accidentally hit him during a practice swing. >> hit him in the helmet. knocked him down. he got back up. but he went right back down again. everybody came out and helped him. >> an ambulance rushed kaiser to the hospital. he is now being treated in the intensive care unit. we have new information this morning in the death of cecil, the beloved lion in zimbabwe. officials have suspended the hunting of lions, leopards in the area where cecil was killed. crews are also investigating the killing of another lion in april that may have been illegal. they only received information about that killing this week. the announcements follow international outcry and a call to bring the american who killed cecil to justice. authorities say the hunt was illegal and are seeking the extradition of walter palmer, a dentist from minnesota. we are hours away from septa's sale of regional rail passes for the pope's employees say they will stay on the job despite not having a contract. both the unions wireless carrier say they will head back to the table for more talks. the decision comes after a contract covering nearly 40,000 workers expired just before midnight. that contract covers employees from massachusetts to virginia, including pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. one of the unions representing the workers says despite being a profitable company, verizon continues to eliminate job opportunity and drive down their standard of living. they say we are not going to take it. we're going to keep the fight going while working on the job. verizon says they are disappointed the groups did not come to an agreement and that the proposals are unrealistic and out of touch in today's marketplace. this weekend while family and friends are remembering the three young victims of this deadly crash, philadelphia police have some new clues in the crash. the community came together for a vigil last night to remember 17-year-old yvette gonzalez, 17-year-old, sabrina rhoads, and 20-year-old felip hernandez. according to police, the three victims were passengers in a car in which the driver was street racing. the victims family members became emotional as they pleaded with the public to put an end to these tragic kinds of crashes. >> we must show them how dangerous this is. this is not the first. i know it won't be the last. some of us don't learn. we need to learn. >> police now have surveillance video that shows two cars racing near red lion road in bustleton right before the accident earlier this week. they also have new information on the second car which took off from the scene. investigators say it appears to be a dark blue or black bmw. police are now trying to track down the driver and any passengers inside that car. this morning a 10-year-old boy remains in the hospital is stable after he was shot at a community swimming pool in chester. witnesses says a 17-year-old was chasing after three young boys yesterday afternoon and opened fire on them at the memorial park and pool. the 10-year-old was hit. several city workers caught the gunman. we just learned a short time ago that the 17-year-old is being charged as an adult. chester's mayor demands change. he says the city already confiscated 85 illegal guns this year, but the crimes continue. >> we have to stop this. you can't shoot up our city, you can't shoot little kids in the park. >> i don't know where they're getting these guns from, but the kids are the -- the teens are out of control. >> in another effort to cut down on crime, the city began installing the first of more than 100 planned surveillance cameras earlier this week. the mayor hopes it will speed up investigations and get criminals off the streets. tomorrow in philadelphia, testimony will resume in the trial of a man accused of murdering the person who answered his craigslist ad. thomas coffee faces a list of charges in the death of daniel cook. cook, who was from williamstown, gloucester county was gunned down in west oak lane in 2013. police says he was in the area with two friends to by an atv advertised on craigslist. when cook showed up for the sale, coffee robbed and killed him. a 17year-old boy from philadelphia who was kritcritically injured in a hit and run crash has been upgraded to stable condition. the driver could be facing more charges. the teen was crossing westminster avenue in west philadelphia around 1:30 yesterday morning when investigators say a gold buick lesabre hit him and took off. about an hour later officers stopped a similar vehicle, a vehicle matching that description reckless driving. that's when they spotted the car's heavy windshield damage and determined this was the car involved in the hit and run. the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. more charges are pending. crews continue their efforts to get control of wildfires burning in morning. investigators tell us that george redner iii, an emt, was trespassing when he was killed on the tracks. family members and friends say redner was about to start classes at the philadelphia fire academy. this morning, there's a new push to revital camden. today u.s. senator bob menendez will tour the ephraim neighborhood with the camden mayor to discuss redevelopment plans. camden is
