as they sold fruit on a street corner. all four died. jesse gary is live in tioga where people will remember them today. >> reporter: this has been almost like a complete transformation here at the site. there used to be a chain link fence. now it's transformed a nice park, new tree, the flowers around the tree and the sign painted here. has the imsagesages of the victims. the cookout goes from noon until 6:00 p.m. memorializing the four that died. keisha williams and her three children were selling fruit at the corner. the four were hit after cornelius crawford and jonathan rosa carjacked an suv and lost control and ran over the four. her family shared memories of the foursome. >> she was loving. she was funny. my niece and two nephews, they was loving and funny. >> reporter: two other women were injured including the owner of the suv in this crime. crawford and rosa are awaiting trial. coming up we'll talk to people as the morning gets later. we talked to them. we talked to one man who was here a year ago right before the accident. he came back today just to look at the plaque and the sign. about 9:03. a man stabbed in philadelphia is in critical condition. nbc 10 was on the scene on 15th street near erie in tioga. the stabbing happened around 1:30 this morning. the victim was wounded in the abdomen. police are investigating. philadelphia police say a monster is now off the streets. an ex-handyman with a history of violence is charged with a murder of a drexel university grad student. james harris broke into jasmine wright's west philadelphia apartment a little more than a week ago and waited for her. he may have kept a key to her apartment after he was fired as the building's handyman. police say when she walked into the apartment, he allegedly attacked her from behind beat sexually assaulted, and strangled her. wright's mother was on the phone with her daughter when she heard them struggle. >> she was a very nice young lady 37 she was just about to make a mark in this life. to be killed in this fashion is sad and tragic. >> harris is a career criminal with 30 prior arrests dating back to the '70s. he killed his own father in 1982 and served out his sentence. right now he's behind bars on $5 million bail. this morning the owner of a popular philadelphia restaurant is facing child pornographyimportantpornography charges. alex capasso is a headliner chef who co-owns crow and the pitcher in rittenhouse square. authorities arrested him at his home in camden county on monday. the fbi says an undercover sting caught capasso providing nude pictures of a 5-year-old girl and discussing plans to sexually abuse his own soon to be born daughter. his coworkers told us they'll try to move on from all of this. >> right now i just have to think about the restaurant and the people that work here. you know i've got to make sure i'm there for them. >> we learned capasso has at least one other child but that boy apparently did not live with his father. two children are with the philadelphia department of human services this morning after police say they were left home alone. but the family says it was all a mixup. officers say they found a 3-year-old boy walking on the 2200 block of north 16th street in north philadelphia yesterday afternoon. they say he had a burn on his foot. when police went to the child's home they say they found an 11-year-old girl as well as deplorable conditions. the kids' aunt says the parents had gone out for 10 or 15 minutes to get lunch and the burn is a birthmark. she blames the landlord for the home problems. >> ceiling falling in doors off the hinges. the tenant that lives downstairs comes in, kicks the doors in. >> no charges having filed. demolition crew wills begin taking down a fixture of the skyline. the commerce building was a beacon of progress when it opened in 1965. crews are clearing it to make way for a parking lot. the demolition should take about two weeks. traffic will be rerouted around the area. here's a live look at boathouse row in philadelphia. it is alive with activity this morning for the annual philadelphia youth regatta. here's a look at some of the teenage rowers doing their thing along the schuylkill river. the schuylkill navy is hosting today's event. part of lincoln drive in philadelphia is closed today for repairs and maintenance. you can't drive on the road from now until 5:00 p.m. ridge avenue lincoln drive is also closed to walkers, joggers, and bikers. there are also closures in center city today. latimer will be repaved. eight other streets will also be closed because of crane operations and construction projects. so expect extra traffic around center city and also delays. still ahead this morning, another shark attack. this one was minutes after 9:00. new this morning overseas. authorities in australia say a man died in a shark attack while he was diving for scallops with his adult daughter. it happened early this morning off the coast of tasmania in an area where a 15 foot great white shark was spotted on friday. the newspaper says the daughter saw the attack surfaced from the ocean, and set off a flare to get the attention of boaters in the area. the last fatal shark attack off that coast happened back in february. here in the u.s. a 2-year-old is dead after police say the child's father left the toddler inside a locked car. it happened yesterday in hot springs, arkansas. investigators say the father drove to a neighbor's house to get help after realizing what happened. the state crime lab will work to determine the exact cause of death, but police believe it was heat related. there's no word yet on any charges. pennsylvania's budget battle continues after more than three weeks of negotiations and still no deal. democrats met at plymouth high school. they called for a state budget that includes education funding and lower property taxes. late last month governor wolfe vetoed a push by republicans. the democrats said the results were clear. >> the results of last year's election was clear. people wanted property tax relief and wanted to see a tax on marcellus shale. >> we got a statement from the republican party of pennsylvania. they say they unanimously voted against wolfe's budget last month and any attempts to say otherwise is just empty political rhetoric. still ahead than $1 billion in new commitments from the u.s. government. tomorrow he will address the kenyan people before leaving for ethiopia. we have new information on the hillary clinton e-mail probe. "the new york times" reports federal investigators say they discovered classified information on the private e-mail account clinton used while secretary of state. the democratic presidential front runner said she kept no secret information on that private server. yesterday her campaign said any government information found on the server was classified after it was sent. but two inspectors general contend the info was secret before and after. decision 2016. "the apprentice" is off nbc but it appears donald trump is still trying to do the firing. "the des moines register" said trump denied credentials for its reporters today. on tuesday the paper published an editorial calling on trump to end his bid for the white house. the businessman called "the register" a failing newspaper who's been dishonest in covering his campaign. preparing for the pope. this is a live look at the aramark building in center city philadelphia. and that company is holding a job fair today because it needs more workers for the world meeting of families and pope francis' visit in september. the job fair is from noon until 4:00 at the pennsylvania convention center. aramark will be looking for workers to sell food and drinks to the expected 2 million people who will pack the parkway this fall. now to this week's wednesday's child. he loves football been nearly 14 years since the september 11th attack on america. today we get a first look at some never before seen pictures of the president and his staff reacting to the devastating events of that day. just about 9:23 now. new this morning, the latest round of turkish air strikes is complicating the u.s. fight against isis. turkish fighter jets struck kurdish camps today. few or no casualties. turkey considers kurdish militants a terrorist group but the u.s. relies on the kurds to battle isis. yesterday turkey's military shelled three isis positions in syria. turkey released video of some of those air strikes. they were allowing air bases to be used by u.s.-led coalition forces. we just learned within the last half hour turkey's prime minister ordered more raids against isis and kurdish militants. tonight gun safety advocates will rally at a cinema in harrisburg following the deadly shooting in lafayette, louisiana. the group moms demand action for gun sense in america calls on congress to do something to stem violence at the movies and elsewhere. last night college students in lafayette hosted a candlelight vigil in the wake of the shooting. they wanted to keep the vigil small to show respect for the families. several dozen students and citizens gathered on the campus of louisiana at lafayette to reflect on the tragedy. law enforcement continues to search for answers after a gunman killed two people and wounded nine others in that theater attack. investigators say the shooter john russell houser took his own life. he had a history of violent behavior and mental illness. meantime the scene inside the grand theatre rattled even veteran police officers. >> that was a horrific scene in there to see where the projectiles were. the sticks coming out of the seats. to see the blood on the floor, to actual smell it. >> the shooter actually took his time. it was somewhat methodical as he shot folks from the top, from the back of the theater. >> police looking for a motive are reviewing journals and online blogs that houser posted prior to the attack. the movie theater will remain closed at least through the weekend. we have new information from the colorado movie theater massacre trial. eight witnesses said he was a happy and friendly child when he was growing up in california. that testimony was recorded on video and jurors will hear it next week. happening today, funeral services are scheduled in chicago for sandra bland, the african-american woman who died in a texas jail cell after a confrontation with a white police officer. she committed suicide by hanging, the autopsy said. investigators are still waiting on toxicology results. but bland's family is questioning that report and questioning the traffic stop that led to her being in jail. the officer stopped her for failing to signal a lane change earlier this month. she was arrested after the cop says she assaulted him. bland was found dead in her cell three days later. new this morning, we are getting our first glimpse at never before seen images of the george w. bush white house reacting to the 9/11 terror attack. former vice president dick cheney's photographer snapped the pictures. this photo shows bush cheney and their team inside the emergency operation center underneath the white house. this one shows cheney and his wife lynn aboard the marine 2 helicopter as it was headed to camp david. and this reveals cheney watching news reports about the attack in his office. the photos were released in response to a freedom of information request. 9:26 right now coming up you then. today marks one year since a deadly carjacking and crash that killed a philadelphia mother and her three children. it also left a deep emotional scar in the tioga neighborhood where that tragedy happened. jesse gary is live with how the community is marking this anniversary. jesse? >> reporter: yes, ted. all morning people have been walking down the street here in germantown right here allegheny. then when they get to this memorial memorial, they pause and look at the plaque honoring the dead. we caught up with james hill as he was headed home. he said he was here a year ago buying fruit from keisha williams and her kids. the four were hit after cornelius crawford and jonathan rosa allegedly carjacked a woman, sped through philadelphia, lost control and then crashed running over the four. keisha williams died days later. today family and friends will hold a memorial cookout to honor the lives that were lost. >> i really think that's a good thing for the children. it's a good thing for families period. just to show them that people really do care about other people out here. and it's just not a bunch of ignorant people living. >> reporter: accused carjackers crawford and rosa are in jail awaiting trial. the organizers will sell hot dogs and hamburgers and drinks today in a way of raising money for williams' lone surviving child. there's not a lot of street parking, so you might want to come early. and you might want to consider taking septa. the 23 or the 60 bus routes will get you out here. the cookout begins at noon. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. >> scene near wilmington yesterday. the clerk suffered a stomach wound but is expected to be okay. the gunman got away with some cash in a dark colored suv with a missing grill. anyone with information drexel university grad student. investigators say james harris broke into jasmine wright's west philadelphia apartment a little more than a week ago and waited for her. he may have kept keys to her apartment after he was fired as the building' handyman. when she walked into her apartment he allegedly attacked her from behind then beat sexually assaulted, and strangled her. according to authorities, harris is a career criminal with 30 prior arrests dating back to the '70s. police in montgomery county are searching for a woman who robbed a bank in the middle of the day. take a look. investigators say she walked into the bank of america in conshohocken around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. she allegedly told the teller she shhad a gun and demanded money. she put the cash in a black bag with a red design on it and took off. police find a stolen car in center city with the alleged thief inside. and nbc 10 was there. the car is a mini cooper with multi-colored polka dots on it. a burglar who broke into a home on wednesday took the car keys the car, and some bikes. then someone spotted the car yesterday. police tell us the burglar used the car and its bike rack to steal other bicycles around town. one theft was caught on this surveillance video. the bottom line the owner has his car back. 9:37. just ahead this morning, a speeding car makes a smashing entrance at a store in new york. and it's all caught on camera. and later, the not so friendly skies. why some of the biggest airlines in america are under investigation for tickets sold after the deadly amtrak derailment. of a car smashing into a 7-eleven in new york narrowly missing customers. the driver was pulling into a parking spot but instead of the brake she hit the gas pedal. the car knocked over two aisles before it came to a stop. luckily no one was hurt. if you want to get away by air, now is apparently a good time to be traveling to and from philadelphia. philadelphia international airport is number six on cheap flight.com's annual list of affordable airports. the average airfare last month was $267. that's down about $90 from the same time last year. and in case you're wondering, cincinnati northern kentucky airport topped the list with an average airfare of 199 bucks. the 33rd annual new jersey peach festival is underway in gloucester county. you can sample peach related goodies at the 4-h fair at mullica hill. local farmers will judge anything made with peaches. and in central jersey, 100 hot air balloons will take to the air today. the festival of ballooning is happening at the airport in redington township. some of the balloons are shaped like darth vader, a whale, and a panda bear. the balloons will be on dismay today. then they'll ascend at 6:30 this evening. the festival investigating five airlines for possible price gouging following the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia. the u.s. department of transportation sent letters yesterday to american delta, jetblue, southwest, and united airlines requesting their prices before and after the crash in may. the airlines deny raising prices after the derailment in port richmond. amtrak shut down travel between philadelphia and new york for five days. earlier this month the justice department said it is investigating possible collusion between the airlines to limit between available seats to keep costs high. meanwhile governor christie took aim at amtrak for power problems that caused delays for four days. new jersey pays $100 million to use the lines. he wants congress to make sure they use the money properly. targeting atlantic city electric. they're criticizing the power company's response to last month's storms that left hundreds of thousands of customers without electricity for days in south jersey. preliminary state report found the communication with customers was, quote, less than optimal. company says it needs to improve communication. if you have a taste for craft beer and cider, you may want to check out the annual summerfest at xfinity live in south philadelphia today. you can sample more than 200 beers from over 100 breweries. the event begins this afternoon at 3:00. from our delaware bureau the state fair continues today in harrington kent county. the gate is now open and there are animal shows, carnival rides for you and your family to enjoy. tomorrow night, new kids on the block will perform at the fair which runs through next saturday. two jersey shore towns are winners in the 25th annual atlantic city life guard classic. beach patrols from all over the state showed off their life saving skill last night. they competed in paddle board, swim swimming, and rowing races. the overall top prize went to team avalon. and it was a beautiful day for the life guard been in talks with the phillies about the former world series mvp. phillies ironically of course in chicago this weekend. csnphilly.com insider said friday the cubs are interested but don't hold your breath. >> the cubs are very, very protective of their talent and they don't want to give up the pieces that are needed to get cole hamels. i still think your focus has to be the dodgers and rangers. that said, cubs do have interest. it's going to be a mad house here tomorrow when cole hamels takes the mound because cubs fans, they would like to see him here. i'm just doubtful that it's going to happen. checking in on the eagles. they signed former villanova running back kevin manongai on friday according to his instagram. and he's joining a club with apparently quite the reputation. in a sports illustrated poll, the eagles fans are the most hated in the entire nfl. the poll references of course snow balls thrown at santa claus in 1978. we can't let that one go apparently. the jail installed in veterans stadium. and cheering former cowboys receiver michael irving's injury in 1998. the fans were actually booing deion sanders. nevertheless, eagles fans don't catch a break. that'll
