Wave of the Day: Balaram Stack's New York Keg, Dec 17th New York pro raps out about yesterday’s nor’easter surf, choosing a ‘snowy barrel-fest in my backyard’ over a Tahiti swell — and charging alongside Action Bronson. Matt Pruett Link copied to clipboard that it was too big in the morning, and straight-up perfect thereafter. Balaram Stack: Yeah, I was on it at first light, because I’d missed that early session with Rob Kelly in New Jersey that last swell. But the buoys were massive. It was kinda too big for everywhere, and it had that crazy offshore wind, so there were massive barrels. But you couldn’t really surf it. I checked all over town. I checked all the way from the West End to the East End. I saw a wave at Laurelton that barreled for an easy eight seconds, like a 10-footer across the entire beach. I couldn’t believe it. Like, it was out there, but I couldn’t get to it because the rest of the waves were wash-throughs, y’know? So we ended up just east of Lido and I paddled right out because I kept seeing good ones more and more frequently. I got a couple and drifted down to the main break at Lido, everyone came out, and then I didn’t get out for the next four hours or so. It just kept getting better as the day went on.
