Groundwater levels in Arkansas' two most important aquifers -- the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer for agriculture and the Sparta-Memphis aquifer for drinking and industrial uses -- are showing short-term decline and longer-term positive trends, but withdrawal rates remain unsustainable.
