Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) Board members and administrators will soon discuss the possibility of pursuing another referendum for building projects. A vote could be held as early as November of this year. The conversation will follow board members having recently received a study of the district’s facilities that identified about $63 million in deferred maintenance costs. Superintendent Annette Freiheit said at the School Board’s May 20 meeting that funding from the 2018 building project referendum will expire in 2023, and a positive vote would be needed in November 2021, February 2022, August 2022, or November 2022 to replace it.
