Hey, good morning, everybody, lets get right to our top story. What may be another intriguing discovery involving the missing Malaysian Air flight 370. Look at these images coming in from the island off the coast of africa. Where something new, a small metallic object has been found on the beach there. Reportedly with chinese and mandarin writing on it. It is very early, of course. We dont know whether this object is in fact from that missing plane. If confirmed, it would be remarkable. Two objects washing ashore on a Little Islands thousands of miles from where searchers had been looking for that plane. That New Discovery comes just days after a piece of the planes wing was found on a beach. It has arrived under heavy guard in france, where it will be analyzed in the coming days. So, do we now have two big clues to this aviation mystery . Our coverage begins this morning here with abcs bob woodruff. Reporter well, dan, good morning. This new piece of evidence is being described as a small, metallic object with ideograms. It is still very unclear if it was part of flight 370 but it is another possible piece of evidence. This New Discovery on the beach of reunion island could provide more important clues of what happened to flight 370. This new small metallic object was found on the same day when this part of a wing was discovered, which is now 5,000 miles away at a Defense Ministry laboratory in france waiting for analysis. Which will begin on wednesday. As for the newly discovered debris, apparently there are object. As for part of the wing, now in france, analysts have found these numbers and letters. 657bb identifying it coming from a flight 777. Its wait as the Malaysian Airplane was. We know of no other 777s. Reporter while the wing part was white, the new debris could have other kind of clues, perhaps colors. Look at this picture of colors, red and white stripes. The man who found these items didnt report it before now because he didnt see the news until yesterday. All of this debris could be floating for 17 months, a large system of circular ocean currents that normally move counterclockwise. All of the debris, including this large part of the wing, are small dots on the gigantic sea, very difficult to see. If you look at this piece of metal, there are barnacles all around the top, which would submerged. And it was probably floating just below, just out of sight. Reporter so, now, with more debris being discovered, the next, most important concentration will be on finding the plane itself, this debris, of course, was floating on top of the sea, more likely that the plane itself is on the bottom of the sea, which means thousands of miles away, probably much closer to australia. Paula. All right, bob, thank you. And we want to turn things back to our aviation consultant steve ganyard. First and foremost, this cant be coincidental. What are the chances two pieces of debris are found on the same Remote Island in the same week . Paula, i think, on one hand, if we found one piece of debris that there are others probably with it. Because these currents arent going to split whatever was floating or whatever was left from the mishap itself. I think we may find other pieces. On the other hand, i think we need to be careful. Because, now, every piece of garbage in the indian ocean is going to look like a 777 piece. We need to manage our expectations here. Lets get this back to to the Forensic Laboratory in france and see if its a piece of the missing aircraft. If these pieces turn out to be from that doomed plane, how difficult will it be to figure out what brought it down . Well, think of when you do mishap investigations, its like a crime scene investigation. They use all sort of forensics. Theyll look at the metal and how the metal was damaged. You know, their engineers and scientists can go back in and they can look at torsional twisting. How metal tears. There are clues they can get out of these pieces. But, in terms of helping us go back and find out what bob was talking about where the rest of the airplane is, on the bottom of the ocean, probably 1,000 miles off of australia, these parts really arent going to help us find where that airplane is now. Overnight a race against time as over 8,000 firefighters battled 21 wildfires tearing across california. The flames, claiming the life of one firefighter. Unfortunately, theres tragic occurrences that do occur. Reporter californias biggest blaze growing overnight, the rocky fire threatening hundreds of homes, stretching more than 27,000 acres, only 5 contained. Now, we shifted a bit where we dont have those high winds from the knot. Reporter two people including a california Highway Patrol officer injured in this inferno sparked by a car crash. The scene all too familiar for residents in southern california, it was here, 3500 acres along with cars and homes scorched by a fastmoving blaze just last month. This morning, some good news for firefighters battling the willow fire, officials believe the worst of this fire is likely behind them. Crews containing 50 of the blaze that has ripped through more than 5,000 acres. Now this is one of 12 bases placed throughout this state and the idea here is that they can respond to any fire that breaks out within 20 minutes, but paula, compared to this time last year, they have already responded to a thousand more fires.
