Vincentian Women Need Sustainability
Jeannie Ollivierre, Director of Marion House, sees unemployment , among others issues, as negatively impacting the lives of young women here.
"Sheron, it’s not easy - Women are petrified and are in a daze!”
That’s the strong assessment expressed by Gender Specialist Jeanie Ollivierre when, last Tuesday, she was questioned about the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on women and girls in this country.
Her sentiments come as females across St. Vincent and the Grenadines join the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day, March 8th, under the theme: Choose to Challenge.
Ollivierre, the Deputy Chair of the Gender Equity Commission, Human Rights Activist and Director of Marion House, a counselling centre and youth training centre, said while there are many issues - such as violence and abuse, affecting females - this country must "choose to challenge” the reality that young women are often unable to sustain themselves.
