Villagers ask for road, mobile tower; boycott panchayat polls Villagers ask for road, mobile tower; boycott panchayat polls ByVijay ChavanVijay Chavan / Updated: Jan 7, 2021, 06:00 IST Pingori is hardly 66 km from Pune city but communication still eludes 3,000 people. Pingori village, some 66 km from Pune city in Purandar taluka, is on world map because of unique owl museum and recently held the country’s first owl festival. However, surrounded by hills of the Sahyadri ranges, the village is far from any kind of development. The 3,000-odd villagers, on Monday, in an unprecedented decision, withdrew all 26 nominations from both the panels and refrained themselves from contesting elections in the seven-member panchayat body. They will not take part in any democratic procedure, they decided. The reason: they don’t receive mobile signals, as the village has no mobile tower.
