Saturday marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Russia's most beloved rock & roll star. When Viktor Tsoi died in a 1990 car crash, it was, to a young person in the Soviet Union, as if Bob Dylan, James Dean and Muhammad Ali all died simultaneously. Yuliya Abasheva was born near St. Petersburg the year of Tsoi's death. Even so, she, like thousands of other Russians who weren't alive during his career, became a lifelong Viktor Tsoi fan.
