KUALA LUMPUR: Police have busted a syndicate specialising in cloning cars by modifying the chassis number and forging documents, following the seizure of 19 vehicles, including luxury cars, worth a total of RM3.5mil.
Six men aged between 22 and 42 were detained in the raids conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Pahang, Johor and Penang from Feb 2 until March 2.
Following a tip-off, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said a team from KL CID raided a used car dealership in Cheras on Feb 2 and seized a Honda TC-P with its chassis number modified.“This led to the month-long operation codenamed Ops Lejang, where the suspects were arrested and cloned vehicles were seized, ” he told a press conference at KL police headquarters yesterday.
