Following the supreme sacrifice of Laxmibai, her adopted son Damodar Rao spent 46 years in Indore under the custody of British rulers. Grandson of Queen of Jhansi Laxmibai, Laxman Rao and great grandson Krishna Rao were merely private typists in Indore who died in poverty. Despite coming from a royal family of freedom fighters they received negligible pension. No privy purse was given to them.
