Two small earthquakes recorded in East Tennessee on Easter Sunday

The Eastern Tennessee seismic zone covers much of the state, reaching south into northern Alabama and Georgia. The United States Geological Survey said earthquakes in the area are frequent but usually small.
East Tennessee experienced a couple of mild earthquakes on Easter Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey. 
The first 1.4 magnitude earthquake registered a little more than 5 miles below Friendsville on at 9:48 p.m. Sunday.
The second 2.0 magnitude earthquake registered shortly before midnight nearly 8 miles below the earth's surface at Cades Cove inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Townsend.
