Treacherous tiles: Pedestrians share slip stories in central Blenheim and Picton

Pedestrians share their stories about coming to grief on slippery tiles in the Picton and Blenheim town centres.
Pedestrians have shared their stories of slipping on tiles in Marlborough after a Picton man spoke out last week.
Ralph Martin, 65, told
Stuff he was on his way to the Super Rugby Aotearoa final when he slipped and banged his knee on new tiles near the new library on Picton’s High St, about 7pm on May 8.
Marlborough Roads manager Steve Murrin said he was checking the glaze on the new tiles. Most of Picton and Blenheim’s tiles, along with other town centre tiles around the country, were laid in the 1990s before there was a slip standard, and had to be acid-washed, Murrin said.
