What goes into the choosing of an author or the making of a book? How do translators move from research to words—from ideas to “solutions,” if we can call them that? What happens after translation, when a book finally enters the world? This event brings together Flora Thomson- DeVeaux and Katrina Dodson in celebration of two translations being released simultaneously this year: The Apprentice Tourist (Penguin) and Macunaíma: The Hero with No Character (New Directions), both by acclaimed Brazilian modernist Mário de Andrade. We invite Flora and Katrina to share their journeys into the world of Mário de Andrade and their hopes for these two remarkable works.
