why it was so important they got out here early and got that vote cast. >> having seen what's going on in the states before us and seeing the numbers that have come out in huge quantities that they haven't expected, so i'm glad to see it, though. i really am. people ought to take an interest in what is happening to our country. >> it's one of the most important elections i think we've had in many, many, many years in the history of our country. i think it's important and we're seeing that across the country with increased voter turnout. aly: i just wanted to show you this. in north carolina and south carolina, we do not get stickers like this. if you look at georgia, there is a peach on it as well. aly myles wyff news 4 live in hartwell. geoff: thank you. hundreds of delegates up or grabs. it is super tuesday, the biggest decision day so far. tracie potts has what to expect in washington. tracie potts: bernie sanders voting back home in vermont this morning, the one state he is almost sure to win today. >> i am confident that there is across the country. we are going to do well. if not, we will be struggling. tracie potts: hillary clinton is 10 points ahead of the national poll and she is headed to florida to watch results there tonight. 12 states choose candidates today, and 10 work both parties compete, plus, democrats and colorado and republicans in alaska. texas, the largest, a must win for ted cruz. marco rubio and ted cruz are fighting to finish strong to take on donald trump in win or in washington this morning, a strong review from the house speaker on donald trump failing to denounce the kkk. >> if a person wants to be the nominee of the republican party, there can be no evasion and no games. they must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry. tracie potts: but donald trump is gaining support with 40%, a new high in the polls. tracie potts nbc news washington. geoff: reiterating what tracie potts just talked about, a new nbc news poll shows donald trump and hillary clinton holding leads in their races according to the nbc news survey monkey online poll. with registered republicans, donald trump is leading with 40%. in second place is marco rubio with 21%, while ted cruz is holding close in third with 18%. the race is closer on the other side, with 51% of democrats selected hillary clinton in the poll. with bernie sanders in second with 41%. once the poll closes, we'll have the wyff news 4 app. be sure to download it for all of our commitment 2016 coverage. we'll bring you the latest results as they come in. also, make sure to check the bottom of your screen for those results, too. this evening be sure to watch an , hour long nightly news. lester holt will be anchoring live from new york. nightly news starts right after wyff news 4 at 6:00. the south carolina senate starts its week in a familiar place, debating getting more money to the state's roads. senator lee bright, who represents spartanburg and greenville county, will be on the floor today. he took over a nearly two week filibuster by senator tom davis. bright says south carolina can find enough money to repair bridges and fix potholes without raising the gas tax. the debate has paralyzed the senate, which can't debate any other bills with opposition until it handles the roads issue. and happening right now, the south carolina chamber of commerce is talking about the senate. there are live pictures. the chamber is arguing that the condition's of the state roads will start to hurt the state's tourism industry. let's listen to part of the news conference. >> what i would say to you today is this -- it is time for our general assembly to move on, particularly the senate, to fix our roads. the rhetorical question has to be answered and i think temple lake summed it up. how many people must live before we fix our roads? how much business do we lose trying to get our goods and services to our businesses across the state? billions of dollars. in business communities, with citizens, we are frustrated. our senate and executive branch needs to get together to talk about a bill that they both can -- thank you a very much. news 4 at 5:00. updates now to a couple of developing stories we told you about yesteray at noon. a little girll pulled from a house fire has died. sophia rhodes was 5-years-old. the anderson county coroner says she died from her injuries at the augusta burn center. fire officials tell us the child was found between the wall and a couch in the home. this is on green street in honea path. the fire started around ten sunday night. the little girl was rushed to the burn unit in augusta, and she died of smoke inhalation. a neighbor called 911 after seeing fire and smoke coming from the back of the home. >> i heard cops hollering sophia, and i seen the fire ambulance right here at the stop sign and they got the stretcher out. geoff: friends say sophia was the youngest of five children. the rest of the family was not injured in the fire. another update this afternoon, the spartanburg county coroner says the four usc upstate students killed in a crash in october had been drinking. that accident happened on fourth street near boiling springs. only one of the five students in the car survived. according to results released yesterday, three of the students who died, including the driver james campbell, had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit. the coroner says he needed guidance from the state attorney general before giving out that information. the reason was because some of the victim's families fought the release. >> i feel it more than prudent that we release the toxicology results so we can get this story behind us and maybe get these families some healing. geoff: according to the attorney general's opinion, toxicology results should be considered private, but he says coroners laws. a union county teacher has resigned from her job rather than face a disciplinary hearing for nude pictures taken from her phone. leigh anne arthur was a mechatronics teacher at union county high school. she tells us she took partially nude pictures herself to give to her husband. she says a student at the school took her phone, went through her pictures and sent them to other students. the school district says arthur was at fault because she left the phone unlocked. >> he knows right and wrong. he had the ultimate decision to take pictures of my pictures, and he had the ultimate decision to send them out, so i don't understand why i am being held accountable. i didn't do anything except have a dumb moment for two or three minutes. geoff: arthur says she knows who the student is and forgives him. the union county sheriff's office is investigating the incident to see whether the student should be charged. an investigation is underway 5-year-old boy was injured in a shooting. spartanburg county deputies are calling the shooting accidental but have not said what led to the shooting. the incident happened last night on rowe street in the arcadia area. deputies say the child was taken to spartanburg medical center. right now, there is no update on his condition. greenville police are trying to identify a suspect accused of shooting a man in the back. police say the shooting happened last night at brook haven apartments. they say the victim was brought to greenville memorial and his injuries are not life-threatening. the family of a berkeley county sheriff's deputy, who was shot and wounded, is thanking the public for the outpouring of love and support. kimber gist, who is originally from woodruff, was shot twice last week when she stopped to investigate a suspicious vehicle in goose creek. authorities say the man suspected of shooting her later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. gist remains in the hospital, but authorities have said she is a small earthquake hit north carolina overnight. the u.s. geological survey says a magnitude 2.4 quake hit outside of burnsville in yancey county. so far, no reports of damage. earthquaketracker.com reports the quake happened a little after 9:30. coming up, a north carolina community is asking questions following a deadly officer involved shooting. and authorities are trying to determine what led to a shooting inside a high school cafeteria. dale: more 85 southbound. the trucks there and the traffic slowing down because at mile marker 60 in front of bmw, there is a wreck that is blocking traffic. but traffic is backing up in that area. this afternoon, the investigation continues into an officer involved shooting in north carolina that killed a chase suspect. police say the suspect was wanted on felony drug charges. they say he ran away from officers trying to arrest him. at some point during the chase, police say officer d.c. twiddy shot and killed the man. the state bureau of investigation has been called in to review the shooting. happening now, the funeral service for virginia police officer ashley guindon to be underway. her body was escorted by dozens of police cars and motorcycles monday night to hylton memorial chapel. the prince william county officer was shot and killed in the line of duty last saturday. it was her first day on patrol. she and two other officers were responding to a domestic violence call when she was shot. the 14-year-old teen accused in yesterday's shooting at an ohio school made his first court appearance this morning. the teen is charged with two two counts of felonious assault. his attorney entered a not guilty plea for his young client. the judge ordered the teen remain in juvenile detention pending a pre-trial hearing on april 5. four people were hurt monday when witnesses say the student opened fire during lunch in the cafeteria of his junior-senior high school in madison township, ohio. the search continues this afternoon for a man who kidnapped his girlfriend and boys then led police in southern california on a chase. the chase lasted for several hours. early in the chase, the driver weaved through traffic, even driving on the wrong side of the road. eventually, the chase stopped, leading to the standoff. the standoff ended when the driver freed his girlfriend and boys and ran from the scene. so far, police have not located the suspect. wild video out of arlington, texas, after a driver plows their car into a gas pump. the accident happened yesterday afternoon at a shell gas station in west arlington. driver and some help try to free other passengers from the car before flames from the gas pump get more intense. firefighters got the flames under control in about two hours. police have not said if anyone was injured or what caused the driver to lose control. black smoke clouded the san francisco sky after a bus caught fire at a gas station. police say the bus went up in flames yesterday afternoon in the south of market neighborhood. black plumes of smoke could be seen for several miles shooting into the sky. fire crews say the blaze was extinguished in about 30 minutes. police say the bus was empty during the fire and no injuries were hendersonville to asheville. stronger wind will be associated with the thunderstorms. the first day of march averages 60 and the record today is 80 setback in 1918. we will be above average but not record-breaking, getting up to 68. asheville normally sees 54. 64 is the forecasted high after a warm weather ahead of the front. wind is always stronger ahead of a system like this. showers and thunderstorms could produce damaging wind, so we will be watching that this evening with thunderstorms. cooler temperatures behind it. tomorrow, instead of upper 60's and low 70's, 50's in the here is station longer than any other , u.s. astronaut. kelly's current mission has lasted 340 days. in his last briefing before heading home, kelly told reporters that he is feeling good. after he lands, he'll be flown to houston tomorrow to undergo a battery of physical and scientific tests. this was his fourth mission in space. to the gone for that long, hard to imagine. dale: and he has an
