Right now, all shelters in the city are running on code purple. That means making extra room, because the temperature is below 32 degrees. We have cots, and we have mats. If we run out of cots, and we run out of mats, well put out blankets. We just want to get people in out of the cold. Shelter keeps 140 men, women, and children warm. Last night, under code purple, they took in 162 people. An expansion is underway. Its not ready for beds just yet. Our desire is that we dont want anyone to freeze. Mike their work doesnt just stop with warm beds and meals. The ministry helps the people here with counseling and job searching. In fact, Darren Dumont now works here. But he never forgets the way he got here. Pray for the people that are out there. Missed three days of school. Theyll make up one on what would have been an optional work day in may. Theyll extend two half days that would have been early release, and they will make up another one at the end of the school year. They say they dont want anyone taking the chance, because safety for staff and students comes first. We take safety seriously. That is always first. That was a factor this morning with our staff, more than the people who live in town. Its a little inconvenient, but it is safer for kids of the buses, we have to do what we have to do.
