given out to almost 185,000 people around the state. the money is intended to cover the cost of food, not fixed flood damage. a family of five would receive a debit card with $771. the money comes from the federal program. some of the worst damage was in the midlands. in those counties, the department of social services however, about 4000 people in the upstate showed up to get money but were turned away because they could not prove they had been impacted by the flood. almost 26,000 people were turned away. we reported people could be prosecuted for false claims. the day after that story
