breaking overnight, chespeake police are looking for a suspect after high-speed chase through two cities overnight. our crew here at wavy watched as about seven police cars followed a motorcycle right in front of our station in portsmouth. rico bush has been gathering more details on this breaking news. he's live in chesapeake. rico, what can you tell us? don, katie, at the top of the hour, more details are coming in about the high-speed chase. we're learning the chase lasted about seven minutes in portsmouth, before officers called off the pursuit. according to portsmouth police, officers in chesapeake contacted them to assist them in the high-speed chase on george washington highway just before 12-30. police confirm to us the chase ended in portsmouth, when officers lost the suspect. chesapeake dispatch could not tell us where the chase started nor where it ended. throughout the morning, we'll continue to check in with police to find out why officers began chasing the suspect and who they're looking for. in the meantime, i'll be posting new updates on this chase to twitter and wavy dot com as soon as we learn them. rico bush, 10 on your side. the u.s. marshal service is warning virginia residents about a national phone scam where individuals are claiming to be law enforcement officials collecting fines for failing to report for jury duty. marshals say they do not arrange payment of any fines over the phone. the scammers are trying to appear more credible by providing badge numbers and the names of courthouse addresses. marshals say, do not divulge your personal or financial information to anyone you don't know. happening today, nearly 100 scientists will be in gloucester to talk about trash in our local waterways and oceans. it's part of the two-day virginia marine debris summit at the virginia institute of marine science. scientists will talk about ways to prevent pollution in places like the chesapeake bay, which you can see in good morning, hampton roads. let's check let's check traffic now. a fallen virginia officer was laid to rest in her home town. find out more next, plus, gas prices on the rise. why experts say we're paying more at the pump. and later, a competition of brute strength puts couples to the test. we'll take you to the the community of flint, michigan continues to struggle with getting clean water for their families. one democratic candidate has created a plan to aid in the water crisis and create jobs for the flint youth. democratic presidential candidiate hillary clinton and flint's mayor karen weaver created the flint water works program. the goal is to provide jobs for the local youth and to fast track mayor weaver's plans to remove all lead-tainted service lines in flint. hillary clinton's daugher chelsea, is heading up the initiative and says this is not a political move. :36-:50 "i really just want to echo what the mayor said. for my mother, for me, this is not political, but it is deeply personal, and i think it should be personal to every american" (butt to) citizens of flint in helping us with this process of beginning to heal from this disaster" flint's mayor, karen weaver, she says the program targets community youth who are out of work. flint michigan was the home of last night's democratic debate. hillary clinton zero-ed in on the severity of the water crisis. michigan has a rainy day fund for emergencies. what is more important than the health and well-being of people, particularly children? it is raining lead in flint and the state is derelict in not coming forward with the money that is required." last night's event was filled with heated debates over the criminal justice system, gun control, and government bailouts. no supers :00-:24 hillary clinton: i voted to save the auto industry, he voted against the money that ended up saving the auto industry. i think that is a pretty big difference. sen. bernie sanders: well if you are talking about the wall street bailout where some of your friends destroyed this economy... hillary clinton: you know... sen. bernie sanders: excuse me i'm talking. coming up at 7:00 over on fox43, we'll have more on last night's democratic debate, and go over the wins from presidential candidate john kasich received a enthusiastic endorsement from the "terminator" over the weekend. former california governor arnold schwarzenegger endorsed the ohio governor, saying kasich is like an action hero. :15-:30 let me tell you something. when he then went to washington he kicked some serious butt. (laughter) he was an action hero when he went to washington. when he ran for governor i said to him "i'll be back!" the former california says we need to send postive messages during the campaign and lead by example for our kids. people continue to mourn fallen officer ashley guidon. yesterday, families and friends gathered in western massachusetts to honor. officer guindon was shot during a domestic violence call in woodbridge, virginia and later died from those injuries. she was shot just one day after starting with the prince george county's police department. officer guindon will be buried next to her father in massachusetts. new this morning, a grim discovery inside an elevator in china. maintenance workers found the body of a woman inside the elevator a month after they shut off power to it. police say the crew turned off power to check a glitch, but didn't check to see if anyone was inside. that was on january 30th. crews didn't find the women's body until march 1st. the maintenance workers with involuntary manslaughter. thousands of refugees have been granted passage over the border of greece into macedonia after being stuck due to border restrictions. though these refugees have crossed into macedonia, future refugees will be faced restrictions limiting passage to refugees only from war torn cities. the refugees are hoping to make it further to countries like germany or sweden. new this morning, rescue teams in utah rescued a dog stuck out on the ice for five days. take a look; the teams caught the rescue on camera. you can see the dog hovering just above the ice, when first responders rode by and quickly grabbed the dog and pulled it to safety. according to our affiliate station in the area, officials say the dog wandered out onto the ice last monday, but had not fallen in at that point. crews spotted it thursday, and tried to rescue it, but the dog ran off. they went back out with an air boat on friday and finally rescued it. the sheriff's office says the dog is doing fine and recovering. :00-:05 "3, 2, 1 go!" nats of cheering and they're off! the world famous iditarod dog sled race began yesterday in alaska. right now 85 dog sled teams are racing almost 1,000 miles for the title. due to a lack of snow in anchorage this year, crews shipped in snow from fairbanks. the 2016 winner is expected to cross the finish line in about 9 days. (laughing) developing this morning police across several cities are investigating at least eight separate shootings from this past weekend. one man died saturday in ocean view. three other victims are in the hopsital with life-threatening injuries. one is a teenager from newport news, and the other two are men from virginia beach and hampton. let's begin with the deadly shooting in norfolk. it happened saturday afternoon on kingston avenue. police say they found robert kinght, the third, in the driver's seat of a white minivan. someone shot knight several times. paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he died. neighbors told us they don't feel safe in their neighborhood. vanessa carter-west / neighbor c0032 1:31:07 this is literally where i walk i go all the way down this road and back up to my apartment like i said i wont be doing that again." 1:31:15 " investigators believe the suspect or suspects are dangerous. witnesses last saw a blue or grey small car with heavy front end damage. call police if you see the vehicle. two other shootings happened in norfolk last night. a 16-year-old is recovering in the hospital. it happened on pollard street in the lindenwood neighborhood. officers found him laying in the street. police tell us they found another shooting victim on lead street just a few hours later. that person is expected to be okay. investigators say the shootings are not related. police in portsmouth say a man is in the hospital following a shooting. it happened yesterday afternoon on portsmouth boulevard near staunton avenue. we're working to learn how that man is doing. police in virginia beach caught a suspect in an early morning shooting not too far from the scene at a hotel. the victim is in the hospital with life- threatening injuries. officers found him on atlantic avenue near virginia beach boulevard at the oceanfront. police say the suspect fled the scene, but they found him nearby. all the commotion yesterday woke up several neighbors. gunshots c0025 6:17 " i was in my room and watching tv early this morning i just heard shots fired." 6:22 you know who is gonna do anything? youre gonna stay where you are at. im not gonna go investigate whats going on.
