>> no one wants to use the m word and j word, muslim or jihadist. >> a key center wants to know why possible warnings within ignored. a show down between ten necessary greats. >> martina navratilova was especially harsh. do you know what she said? >> i heard. you kell tell me. >> martina navratilova is here with tough words on andre agassi's drug use. and tonight's episode of gos pip girl oig is causing quite a stir as a possible threesome story line has some up in arm ps. >> marketing a sexual threesome to teenaged girls is not serving the public interests. >> more on the controversy early this monday morning, november >> more on the controversy early this monday morning, november 9th, 2009. captioning funded by cbs good morning. i'm harry smith along with making go rodriguez. good to have you here. everything that everybody has been talking nonstop for months and months now with the h1n1 flu and we're trying to figure out and get a handle on how many people have been exposed to the virus and our own dr. jennifer ashton has gone out and done some due diligence. and has found out that basically what has been reported versus what is really going on may be two different things. and we'll have that for you in just a bit. also ahead, we have confirmed that the government is planning to announce a major stroller recall this week. the brand is a very popular brand and if you have bought it within the last ten year, this does affect you, so be sure to stay tuned for all the details. but first, this morning an alert that affects all the gulf states. hurricane ida is expected to make landfall tomorrow and louisiana has issued a state of emergency and the national guard is ready to mobilize. our own dave price is at the national huck center? miami to fill fuss on this. is this cause for concern, dave? >> well, certainly any hurricane is ands, of course, a late season hurricane is particularly rare in november. ed behind me getting toward brief stations all across the country. right now hear's what we though. an intermediate advisory has just come out, 80-mile-an-hour winds for ida, 16-mile-an-hour forward speed to the north/northwest. hurricane force extend outward 35 miles and tropical storm force winds extend 200 miles from the center. there are only been four hurricanes since 1900 that have made landfall in november. of course this is going to be one of those events, but it's wake thing rapidly. that's the good news. and keep in mind that even as this storm weakens, people along the gulf coast no better than to ignore it. forecasts show ida beginning to weaken but sill packing a punch. it should brush near louisiana and mississippi and gradually weaken making landfall by tomorrow morning, potentially near the alabama border. ida is then expected to continue across north florida. in the snipe state, officials tracking hurricane ida are encouraging people in low lying areas to simply get out. >> conditions will deteriorate, winds will increase, the rains had begin and we should really begin to feel tropical storm force winds. >> reporter: at least 124 people died and dozens are missing in el salvador after heavy rains apfloods buried whole up tos there. earlier those raps were linked to ida, but now the national hurricane center says those rainses were part of a separate storm system out of the pacific. still, ida could produce five to eight inches of rain in the hardest hit areas. historically only 5 purse of all tropical storms and tropical activity occurs after november 1st. this season we've had neen named storm, three hurricanes and two of those have been major, but, of course, this is going to be a significant late season event. we'll continue to watch it. good news is, though, some vertical shear, that means the storms beginning to weaken somewhat. harry, back to you and we'll update you with the full national weather picture in a couple minutes. now to the shooting at forward hood. senator joe lieberman who chairs the senate homeland security committee is calling for a probe into whether the shoothing was actually a terrorist attack. dean reynolds joins us from ft. hood with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, harry. well, as the army searches for answers, a big unavoidable question is why so few people picked up on the many signals that major hasan was potential trouble. according to those who knew him, including soldiers, nidal malik hasan repeatedly proclaimed that the u.s. war on terror was a war on islam, that he thought the wars in afghanistan and iraq were proof of that view. and that he wanted nothing to do with his pending deployment to afghanistan later this month. strong potentially alarming views for an army psychiatrist to be expressing out houd and yet apparently the service never speaker veeped. >> if they knew something that could, in fact, have overt this had from happen, they will be held accountable. >> reporter: one associate says he repeatedly complained to army officials about a presentation hasan made that justified suicide bombings. one classmate or theedly called him aic itting time bottom. investigators say there is no evidence yet that anyone else was involved in thursday's shooting, but the army and the fbi are now combing hasan computer records assessing his attraction to inflammatory websites and this mosque in suburban washington, one that also ministered to two of the september 11th hijackers. and who was once led by an imam who was reportedly investigated by the fbi. >> the army and everybody else is being too politically correct, no one a wanteds to use the m word and j word, muslim or jihadist. >> reporter: now, there are a lot of reports out there today about major hasan's ties to alleged radical groups, including a website out there which is praising his activities. but while the army says there is no evidence that more than one person was involved in this, clearly the investigation has far to go. >> dean reynolds in ft. hood. thank you. joining us now from washington is cbs news trimp expert juan zarate. good morning. very disturbing to see these individual strands when tied together it seems to add up to something. as you look at it, what do you think? >> well, evening that's right. in hindsight, all of these data points describe a very disturbing picture. i think what authorities are looking at now is trying to figure out this mixture of motivation, trying to figure out exactly what motivated him and what may have radicalized him. this recent revelation of potential ties to the mosque in northern virginia is an interesting and important one and if, in fact respect he's had continued contacts with the clairic long known to the fbi with terrorist ties, that's problematic. >> the other part of the problem with the scenario, though, as it develops, if he really were a terrorist, would he have been public, so public, in his demonstrations over and over again about his opposition to the war saying that these wars in afghanistan and iraq were, in fact, wars on islam? if you were a terrorist, you probably would keep your mouth shut about that. >> i think that's right. and i think this case presents a different kind of case. i don't think anyone suspects at it this point and a authorities aren't suggesting that hasan was directed from al qaeda or that he was acting other than alone in this attack. but i think what's troubling is the fact that he did express those views. it appeared he was growing more and more radical, though he was still in his position to treat soldiers. and i think that's the difficult part here for the army. >> and especially not ak able to identify that and say this is a bad apple, we have to get him out of here. >> that's right. and i think that's what the investigations will start to pull out and i think we'll start to see who are data points with respect to that. >> as always, thanks so much. here's maggie. joining us now from ft. hood is private joseseph foster and . stephen beckwith. thanks for taking the time this morning. private foster, let me begin with you. how are your injuries doing? >> it's getting better. >> what was the extent of your injuries? >> the bullet just went in, hit my femur and bounced right back out. just a pretty good hole. >> describe that moment for me. what do you remember about the moment that you were shot? >> kind of scared. only one word to really describe it, terrifying. >> there are reports that major hasan shouted god is great in aura wick as he opened fire. did you hear him say anything? >> yes, he did -- when he got up, he did yell in arabic. he hopped up and stated allahu akbar. >> which means god is great. as we're learning more, what are your feelings about possible ties to terrorism and warning signs that were ignored? >> i have full faith in my army and my family. i think if there was anything that could is been done, it would have been done. >> c. beck wit, let me bring you in. you were one of the first on the scene treating the wounded. what emage keeps replaying in your mind? >> i think the first thing that really stood out to me was what soldiers were doing really for s on the scene. a lot of buddies were coming in with make shift stretcherses and whatnot. i remember at least one or two soldiers who waved me away and said see this guy first. so i think that's just fantastic to see that kind of composure out of our kids out there. >> you're talking about the best things that you you saw. whar what were the worst? >> most of us commentsed just the number of patients was more than most of us had seen at one time. so it's dealing with the volume was difficult. but i think we put a pretty good response together. i'm proud of the ems guys at the scene, folks at the hospital and really a grateful for the support we had from some of the surrounding ems agencies and surrounding hospitals. they were fantastic in getting our response together. >> it in the last second, let me ask you, do you think that the army should be held accountable if it turns out that major hasan did have ties to terrorism and they ignored all these warning signs? >> you know, those things are tough to sort out. it's hard to crawl into someone's head and figure out their motives. right now we're just focused on taking care of these guys and getting forward from here. >> well, i xhend for you that. thank you so much, dr. stephen beckwith, private joseph foster, thank you as well. >> you're welcome. femur, bullet bounces off of his femur and there he is standing there talking to us this morning. >> yeah, it was a pretty good hole. >> russ mitchell is at the news desk. what's going on. >> >> sgloo good morning. the senate takes up health care reform now that an overhaul bill squeaked buyer in the house, influence is lots that won't fly in the senate and the senate action by the end of the year seems unlikely. nancy cordes is on capitol hill. nancy, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. president obama on sunday appraised members of congress who voted for the 2,000 page house health care bill. it passed narrowly, 220 to 215 with just one republican voting yes. >> given the heated and often misleading rhetoric surrounding this legislation, i know that this was a courageous vote for many members of congress. >> reporter: the $1.2 trillion bill is aimed at expanding coverage to 36 million up insured americans. it would be paid for by cutting projected spending in medicare by more than $3400 billion over a decade. and by taxing individuals making more than $500,000 a year. the legislation includes some hard-fought language which would not allow the proposed government-run health care plan to cover the cost of abortions except in cases of rain, incest or where the woman's self life danger. it also include as tax break for same sex couples who get their health insurance through their jobs. also, new labeling on items sold in vending machineses and at large chain restaurants, as well as new scholarships for vet marians. republican opponents say all this adds up to a government takeover of health care and a bill that they argue has little chance of passage in the senate. >> the house bill is dead on arrival in the senate. just look at how it passed. it passed 220-215. it passed by two votes. >> reporter: senate democrats dispute that, in fact rts that's word that senate majority leader harry reid will hold in rare saturday sessions in december to try to meet president obama's goal of getting health care bill passioned by the end of the year. russ? >> nancy cordes on capitol hill. thank you very much. it is thousand coming up on 7:14. let's go back to dave price in miami with the first check of the weather around the rest of the country. good morning. of course we're tracking hurricane ida rapidly weak anything, 80-mile-an-hour winds and headed to the north/northwest at about 16 miles per hour. getting the latest from the people who develop these forecasts here at the national hurricane center, but let's concentrate on the rest of the country right now and punt the maps, see what's happening all across the usa. at this point, mid-atlantic and the northeast going to enjoy gorgeous weather today, some temperature records could be set in places like dc and philly and new york. temperatures could be intoes 70s. lower midwest, scattered showers, the planes mainly dry. southwest and rockies should be fine, but the northwest coastline, you may see some showers roll in. that's a quick look at your weather picture. hairy, rapidly wake thing storm, but we'll keep an eye on it for you. up next, is the cdc fudging the numberses on just how dangerous the h1n1 flu really is?
