Daron dylon wint was arrested late last night after a huge manhunt. Police say he play add role in the death of savas and Amy Savopoulos and their son and the housekeeper. Wyatt andrews is outside d. One week after three members of the wealthy and popular savopoulos family along with their housekeeper who was due to retire to el salvador were all killed in the family home. The prime suspect is now in custody. Hell be arained later today on firstdegree charges of murder while armed. A joint task force located and arrested daron dylon i went in northeast washington. They had been tracking i went as he traveled in a white chevrolet. He was following a box truck driven by friends who were also arrested. We got to a situation where we could successfully take him down and we did our Standard Practice vehicle maneuver and we were able to safely pin the vehicle, both vehicles and place him under arrest. The arrest ended a man huntd that stretched up the east coast from washington to brooklyn, new york. Daron wint has a long criminal record with at least six assault charges, the port says three of which led to allegations. A woman said he threatened her claiming he was good with a knife and later saying im going to come over there and kill you. But i wents criminal record helped break this case because his dna was on file from those prior arrests, analysts were able to arrest him on pizza crust at the crime scene. We cannot rule out that others are involved but i cannot comment. Police cant say if i went acted alone but they say this crime was targeted. I went has worked for savopoulos at the family steel company, american ironworks. We do believe theres a connection between this suspect in the case through the business. So right now it does not appear that this was just a random crime. The weathercast post reports in last nights arrest 10,000 was recovered. It is a controversial law because it allows the government to collect data on almost every phone call in the u. S. And it was recently ruled illegal by a top federal judge. Why does the government need that much power . I think people view that as a kind of power and im hoping that the more we have discussion on this point, the more clarity we can provide to the American People about exactly what we do with that data whats called metadata. Its information about telephone calls. Its not the content. Its not whats being said. Its not the voices that are there. But if that law expires on june 1st and you dont have the ability to collect that metadata, information on every phone call in the United States whats your biggest fear . Well our biggest fear is we will lose important eyes on people who have made it clear that their mission is to harm American People here and abroad. Do you think it makes america less safe . I think we run the risk of being essentially less safe. I think we lose important tools, lose the ability to intercept these communications that are proorn have poshlgt in cases weve built in the past and im very concerned that the American People will be unprotected if this law expireses. When we have overtime rules from the federal labor standards act, what were saying is if you make less than 25,000 a year, at that point you are eligible for overtime. What that means is theres a ub small group of people that say, look, i dodge care if you offer me a smartphone or tablet that ultimately even though its yours, when im off the clock, im off the clock. So what is happening now is because tablets and smartphones are youubiquitous and that employers have just started to think, well we can send you an email or text and we expect you to answer it and now the law will be changing. As always the law follows technology. Now, if youre on a wealth track, if youre someone whos on the executive track, of course, youre going to answer your emails and texts. It would be unthinkable not to. If youre someone at the poverty line you may have a second job. You have a family of four, you may have to feed your children. The idea that late at night you have to answer the texts, thats a problem. Thats confusing. You could be technically a manager and making a salary that doesnt necessarily put you above that bench marx correct . Yes youre correct. The easiest Case Scenario i can give you is this. I think when you look at america and all of its glory and one things it achieves its clear we still have issues involved race in this country. Loretta lynch grew up in North Carolina surrounded by the issue of race. Her grandparents were share croppers her father a minister and and her mother had a backbone. Oh yes. They would stop. Drive, sometimes through the night or evenings to get to various places. She had to stop and use the restroom and shed go to these small rural gas stations and she would refuse to use the colored restroom and she says she just got to a point where she just decided she wasnt going to do it anymore. What did you learn from your mother . That you can make a difference very quietly and that its the choices that you make and the things that youre willing to accept and not accept that define who you are. For her, i dont think it was any major moment. She just looked at it and said not anymore, this is not the america i was brought up to believe in nor the america i want my children to grow up in. Lynch became valedictorian. Her dream, to go to harvard. Thats where she went. She eventually became a prosecutor in new york. Even as a young lawyer you were mistaken many times for oh the court reporter. I think many have had that experience going into the deposition and people thinking youre the court reporter. How does that influence what you do every day . Others will always seek to define you based on what you think you represent or who theically you are, but you have to be the one who cloels what you do, what you say, and how you present yourself and you cant control how others think about you. Thats how many blacks feel, that theyre not treated by who they are even today. I think a lot of young people feel that way older black people may feel that way as well. One of the ironies in this debate is when i talk to Police Officers about their concerns they, too, talk about that people dont see them as individuals. They see the uniform first and not a person and when i point out thats the same thing that a lot of protesters are saying, theres this moment of rather startled recognition. That people are saying the same thing. Everyone wants to be seen. Everyone wants to be heard, recognized as the person that they are and not a stereotype or an image. Its just that kind of approach that the attorney general wants her office to take. Shes trying to change her tone how she deals with the Law Enforcement. Theres one bit of experience that suggests she could be very successful. We found out when we visited with her yesterday that very early in her career she actually interned for us at cbs. There you go. That sums it all. What did she do . That and she was from North Carolina norah. I know. And from North Carolina. You know theres so many interesting things about her biography. Her father took her to civil rights rallies on her shoulders. He introduced her. He used to take her to the courtroom in North Carolina to listen to cases. You know her brother was a navy s. E. A. L. Her other brother a minister. Just an interesting biography about her. You can notice her tone too. She has a really relaxed tone and shes trying to change and work on the relationship between Law Enforcement and communities. The remarkable thing for me is how well spoken she is. You know, all of that remark experience but her command of language and expression is truly stunning. Shes one of the best prosecutors in the country. Norah, thank you. Erin moriarty covers the latest on a case she began covering a decade ago. They were in the middle of a bitter divorce in 2001 when her minivan was discovered at the ended of the familys upstate new york driveway in the morning after the World Trade Center attack. The minute i got the phone call that she didnt come home i knew shehe did something to her. Reporter michelles body was never recovered but they found everyday of her assault. Specks of her blood in the harris kitchen and garage and family and friends said he acted suspiciously after she disappeared. He said i want you to take everything out of michelles out of this house and you can have a garage sale. He never once said what do you think happened to michelle. As a matter of fact, he never looked me in the face once. Reporter cal harris went on trial first in 2007 and then in 2010. He was convicted both times but those guilty verdicts were thrown out. Just before he was tried a third time, he sat down with 48 hours. What has that been like for the last 13 years . Its been horriblet just horrible. Its been a nightmare. Ive been ripped way from my kids three times now. Dont like the fact of knowing we could lose him again. Did you have anything to do with the disappearance of your wife . Absolutely not. Did you kill her in. Not even close. His third trial began in february. The new jury heard from some of the same people including this defense witness who has always said he thought he saw a woman resembling michelle arguing an unidentified man on the harris driveway before she disappeared. I have always said i cannot be 100 sure. Reporter but this time kevin tubb said he was sure and identified this photo of a friend of michelles as the man he saw. But would it be enough to persuade a jury . There was reasonable doubt and acquit cal. The jury deliberated for 11 days before sending word to the judge. The seven men and five women were hopelessly deadlocked forcing the judge to declare a mistrial. Wi got closer to justice but were not there yet. Erins here yet. Why were these two convictions overturned . He came forward right after the very first conviction saying i saw a woman who looked like michelle at the end of the driveway and that would have been a time when the husband could not have killed her. I should point out i didnt get to mention the piece. Theres going to be furkt trial. Im sorry im going to be covering it, but its been almost 14 years with these four trials. But its dismissed because well because in this case the jury just couldnt reach a decision. On this mistrial . On this mistrial.
