georgia. finally wrap it up with the graphics on the bw parkway heading northbound at powder mill. that's where we have an accident blocking the rite lane. over to you. >> a pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle earlier today in annandale, virginia. police say it happened 6:30 this morning on charles hawkins way. it is a freak accident. we're told the victim is a 71- year-old woman who may have put her vehicle in gear and then stepped out of it only to be struck by her own car. the identity of the victim has not been released. the commute in northern virginia is beginning to get back to normal after a rough start this morning. just after 3:00 a.m., a tractor- trailer crashed on i-66 right before the 495 exit. the truck's fuel tank erupted leaking fuel across the highway. at one point, every lane of eastbound 66 was shut down. for part of the morning police adiverted traffic on to northbound 495. all lanes of 66 have since reopened. police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a jocker along the sligo creek stream valley in takoma park. the man allegedly grabbed the victim and forced her in to a wooded area and assaulted her. it happened on route 195. the suspect is described as an hispanic man between 525 and 35. 5'7" to 5'9" inches tall, plea yum build with short black hair. anyone with information about this crime is asked to call takoma park police at 301-270- 1100. today family and friends hold a funeral for a 9-year-old boy for from northwest washington. boy bo was shot an killed last weekend. police say the gunman tried to rob the family and then fired a shot through the door of their columbia heights apartment. a suspect is in custody. numbers out today from aaa are shedding light on thanksgiving holiday travel in our region. 978,000 people in our region will travel 50 miles or more for the holiday. 84% of us will be driving to get out of town. that's a 4% increase from last year. according to aaa, 24% of people in our region will travel 1500 miles or more this holiday. the federal aviation administration says a computer glitch has been fixed. the problem originated from a flight control system in atlanta. it was used to file flight plans. the problem forced air traffic controllers to file the flight plans by hand which led to delays across the country. airports here weren't hit too hard. the faa stresses there was never guidelines for pap smears. women in their 20s only need a test every two years instead of annually. that's from a report out this morning from the american college of obstetricians and gynecologists and it finds routine tests should begin at age 21. women 30 and older can wait three years between paps once they have had three consecutive clear tests. however, women with hiv or other health problems may need more frequent screening. the bottom line is always talk to your doctor. the senate is gearing up for a crucial vote tomorrow on a proposed health care overhaul. republicans vowed to block the passage of the $1 trillion bill. democrats need 60 votes to clear the way for a full debate. sandra endo has more. >> there's a saturday showdown scheduled in the senate over the $848 billion health care reform plan. >> the bill is not just a milestone on a journey of a few months or even a few years. we have been working to reform health care since the first half of the last century. >> reporter: lawmakers are set to vote on whether to open debate on the senate bill crafted mainly by the democratic majority. republicans are taking issue with the bill, especially a new medicare tax hike on individuals earning $200,000 a year and couples earning $250,000 a year. the gop is also against the government-run insurance option which states can opt out of. >> well, let's just start today and vote no against this irresponsible bill. it's the same nonsense that passed the house. it's 2074 pages. give me a break. the american people have soundly rejected this and i told you several months ago how popular it is. it is as popular as a -- milk shake. >> reporter: they prohibit federal funding for abortions and requires individuals to buy health care or face a fine. >> it is an incredible work and the momentum has now shifted to us. >> reporter: but it is unclear if democrats will have the 60 vote filibuster proof majority for the bill. joe lieberman has said he is siding with the republicans. in washington, i'm sandra tendo. the big changes metro is planning to make to the smart benefits program will wait another year. it would affect 200,000 commuter. they center on your smart trip card and how your employer added benefits to it. the transit agency will spend this next year figuring out a simpler plan. more delays on metro this weekend. starting tonight, red line trains will single track between medical center and grosnenor line. and add 30 minutes on the blue and yellow lines. delays between brad took road, van doren street and huntington.
