maryland wi preview. >> good morning to you, mike, andrea. leslie johnson, who is charged with witness and evidence tampering is expected to plead guilty this morning. exactly what she's pleading to, we don't know exactly until 9:00 this morning when this hearing gets underway and u.s. federal court. but meanwhile, her husband, we do know, already pleaded guilty. former county exec jack jon pleaded guilty in a scandal involving a pay to play scheme in which developers have admitted to being paid six government contracts. the two were arrested a few days before leslie johnson was sworn in as a county council member and there, she has remained ever since. >> i think it is better for the county to step down. since she is a part of her husband. >> well, remember back in november, the fbi said leslie johnson could be heard talking on the phone to her husband over flushing a $100,000 check down the toilet and stuffing $80,000 in her underwear and bra. mike, andrea? >> what if mrs. johnson does plead guilty to the felony charges this morning, what happens then? >> well, it is required she would have to step down if indeed she does plead guilty to a felony charge. anything less remains to be seen. she could still be sitting on city council and obviously people have something to say about that. >> surae chinn reporting live from greenbelt, maryland. >> the students of a missing teacher are hoping for good news this morning. tom taught at bishop o'connell school and he was last seen in virginia beach on june 17th. students gathered in arlington for what they called a wishing service. friends say the 37-year-old disappeared after he learned his contract at the school was not being renewed. the wife of the driver charged in last month's deadly tour bus crash in virginia says he tried to get out of working that morning. cheung's wife told his bosses he was tired and didn't make the trip but that he drove anyway because he feared for his job. the bus company, sky express has denied all wrong doing in the may 31st crash. four people died and dozens were hurt when the bus crashed along i-95 near kings dominion. a d.c. police officer is due in court on charges she stole money from an 85-year-old woman. in court, the documents show that sergeant iesha hockey is accused of forging a signature of an elderly victim whom she met while she was conducting a fraud investigation. hackley is charged with depositing ten checks totalling more than $43,000. she was arrested on the job earlier this month. president obama is calling on capitol hill lawmakers to get a deal done on raising the debt ceiling. he is fighting back against republicans who say they won't support a deal which includes tax hikes. i think it would be hard for the republicans to stand there and say that the tax break for corporate jets is sufficiently important that we're not willing to come to the table and get a deal done. >> we can call for tax hikes but he can't call for tax hikes and job creation. it is one or the other. >> republican leaders say taxing businesses in a fragile economy will cost jobs instead of creating them. the president also called on congress to continue the payroll tax cut in hopes it will reduce the unemployment rate. taxes, sounds like money to me. time for the latest "your money" report. >> at least we had some good- looking arrows weekly jobless claims report and mortgage rates. checking the numbers, the dow stapp starts this morning at 12,267, added 72 points of trading yesterday. that follows two triple digit gains this week. the nasdaq is up 11 and the s&p 500 was up by about 11 as well. the world's largest retailer is known for rolling back prices in stores and now it is cutting prices at the pump. walmart says through september, customers can receive a 10 cent a gallon discount on all regular and diesel gas at certain stations. that's pretty good news for walmart supercenter shoppers in fredericksburg. all they need to do is use a reloadable walmart gift card or credit card to get the discount. common rewards for credit card points include airline miles and hotel rooms that our partners at "usa today" report on a new kind of reward, you can get facebook ads. american express is now allowing its customers to redeem points for ads on the social media site. the program targets small business owners but american express says it is available to millions of cardholders. you have to spend about $6700 to get yourself $50 worth of facebook advertising. it is kind of a cool concept if a local business drug avastin. while it is approved to treat other cancers, the panel concluded avastin does more harm than good when it comes to treating advanced breast cancer. a final fda decision is expected at some point later this summer. there is a little good news out of new mexico this morning. firefighters have made some progress in keeping a wildfire just outside the government los alamos nuclear laboratory. at least 800 firefighters and 20 aircraft are battling the blaze. authorities in greece have been trying to put out fires set by protestors. the demonstrators are angry over parliament's approval of a new round of austerity measures in an effort to ease the country's financial crisis. thousands remain outside government buildings as more votes are expected on the issue today. all right, we know it. there are many things that can cause flight delays but travelers are sitting on the tarmac at new york's jfk for a most unusual reason. see what it is at 5:40. >> at 5:23, an error in for howard bernstein. you say high pressure is in control. >> high pressure has settled in. it is keeping us calm. we like calm weather. especially going into our weekend. but the heat is going to be returning. so, yeah, we got a little bit of a break behind yesterday's front but the northwest winds will hold on one more day. today is going to be very, very decent especially later on this afternoon when we get a little bit of a breeze going. by tomorrow, we're tracking a little bit more humidity that is going to start to build on in. the forecast today looking pretty good. your day planner starts out nice. mainly clear skies which we've had overnight. we'll get plenty of sunshine here through midday and late day and take the temperatures out of the lower 70s. by noontime, most of us are hitting the lower range 80s. we'll settle in probably about 85 degrees for most of the city today. but by here on this afternoon, things will begin to get a little more muggy as our winds start to change and we bring in more of the south and southwest wind flow. a little more humidity coming our way over the next 48 hours. satellite and radar has been quiet. we're going to keep it quiet for today and for tomorrow. by the time we get into friday evening and especially into saturday and sunday evening, we'll get back to that typical summertime pattern where we have the opportunity to see a few of those spot showers late afternoon thunderstorms. right now, temperatures are fairly cool off toward the north. the eastern seaboard is looking delightful. but for us here, that southwest wind flow, once it shifts on in, it will make all of the difference. our forecast does call for us to get out of the 60s and 70s into the 80s by later on this afternoon. i'll show you what our future forecast model, how quiet it will be. you can see the time stamp moving here. notice not much happening on the map. maybe a few clouds by late afternoon. forecast highs today about 87 as we head through the washington metro area, probably the warmest spot for today. also toward the north and toward the east, the closer you get to the point range will be closer to the 80 degree mark. another clear and cool night tonight. with winds calming down as well, that will allow our temperatures to drop into the middle range 60s for most. some of us will see the lower 60s. so, for your planning purposes over the next three days, we're headed into that holiday weekend, so, keep in mind it is going to be hot. in fact, we're expecting a little mini heat wave to come our way. you'll notice the difference beginning on friday. sunshine will stick around. temperatures closer to the 90 degree mark. by the time we get to saturday, it will feel oppressive with heat index values to contend with as well. seven-day forecast does heat up through saturday and sunday. 4th of july, although there is a slight shower or thunderstorm chance there, that should be late in the afternoon on the 4th. we're not anticipating the rain to interfere with the fireworks viewing. then things settle down nicely into next week. let's take a look at that morning drive. >> sounds good to me, thank on metro's management and the safety of the transit system. maryland senator barbara mikulski was one of the capitol hill lawmakers who requested the gao audit two years ago. that was right after the red line crash that killed nine people. she's been in office for just over six months but this morning, leslie johnson could be forced to give up her seat in the prince george's county council. mrs. johnson is expected to enter a guilty plea in connection
