let's start out with our michael & son weather camera this morning. we've got temperatures starting on your saturday running in the 70s and, you know, it does feel a little bit muggy outside, a little bit muggier than yesterday morning but take that compared to a week ago, it doesn't feel that bad outside. 66 in frederick and leesburg is sitting at 68 degrees. 68 also in andrews and in culpeper. today we are looking at a mostly sunny to partly sunny sky in the afternoon hours so there will be a few fair weather cumulus clouds -- cumulus clouds, in the 70s, climbing into the mid and upper 80s by lunchtime, low 90s today with a stray storm in the forecast but all in all most of us stay dry today but not the case for tomorrow. this is the next weather system you can see all the showers and findings. the tracks here are closed. there are two sets of shuttle buses, there's a local bus that goes to every station between shady grove and grovesner, an express bus that goes from shady grove to grovesner. radio issues were seen as a problem in those red light overruns, operators running through red signals. that happened four times in july, 50 times in the last five years. metro really wants to get this problem solve, though track work back to normal here on monday. live at shady grove, pete muntean, wusa9. >> pete, thank you. we have the latest track work and station closures listed right now on our wusa9 mobile app. 10 days after an apartment exploded in silver springs, some families are still waiting for their loved ones' bodies to be identified. yesterday federal watching, always tracking, wusa9's first weather. >> welcome back. now for the question everybody wants to know, melissa nord, when is the crazy heat going to stop? >> we are almost done, almost. >> okay. >> it's kind of a hazy look. you will notice we've got two cameras pulled up. one is bethany beach and the other one that is our weather camera here in town and it's kind of aid hazy -- a hazy look to the day. going to be typically hot like we haven't seen but not as humid as last weekend so the outdoor plans you can still get them done today. the problem comes tomorrow afternoon when we've got a cold front that's going to swing in. that will bring some storms with it. but along with the storms comes a cooldown and that's what everybody is looking forward to. it is going to be a hazy, hot -- typically hot day for this time of year. 75 right now, we have got an east-northeast wind but that will be shifting to more of a southerly wind later today and that keeps the muggy meter factor, so dew points today a little bit higher than yesterday so it's not going to be quite as refreshing refreshingly hot today versus what it felt like yesterday afternoon. we've got 60s showing up in our suburbs, reston right now at 65, 67 in fairfax and out in prince george's county also dealing with the mid and upper 60s to start off your saturday morning. still around 90 degrees through tomorrow but then we will be tracking thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. that is the cold front arriving, and after that pushes through, we are looking at just perfect weather from there as we get towards the start of the workweek. pretty quiet here right now but this is the next front we are tracking in. so already notice we have got showers, storms heading toward chicago right now, moved through st. louis, down to little rock, that continues to march eastward in the next day and that arrives tomorrow and that will bring the storm chances followed by the cooler canadian air mass to follow as we get towards the start to the workweek. today starting out with sunshine, a hazy sunshine but that's kind of the look of the day. it will be seasonably hot reaching the low 90s this afternoon but much of the afternoon will be spent 80s. they are not going to be a huge wind today so not much to bring some relief from those summerlike temperatures but just a stray storm possibility as well for this afternoon. now, the best chance of seeing a storm is going to be out towards the i-81 corridor so most of us just feel the upper 80s and low 90s all afternoon. now, i want to take you to the futurecast because we are tracking the next front in and it's not quite here today. this is what it looks like at 4:00 this afternoon but as we roll the clock forward closer to tomorrow, you're going to notice some changes coming. first tonight, clouds will start to increase and as we get towards tomorrow morning, a stray shower will be possible. then lunchtime on sunday, particularly through the afternoon hours as we get closer to about 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, we are going to start to see thunderstorms popping up and this particular model run, you see how it bricks a lot of over here towards the delmarva peninsula, i think we will see additional storm activity here in the metro area as well tomorrow afternoon, a slightly better chance northeast -- north and ea to see those thunderstorms. locally heavy rainfall will be possible, a few gusty winds because it is summertime. got a lot of fuel for those thunderstorms and as we get past about 8:00 tomorrow evening we will start to see the storms dying down and then the cooldown arrives. so 92 today. tomorrow around 90 degrees still, and look at the drop- off, 90 down to 84 on monday. we've got a lot of kids going back to school this week. it's going to be pretty nice weather for them at their recess hour if they are going outside to play on the playground. perfect weather for that, 84 monday, tuesday and then start to warm things back up again as we get towards the rest of next week but not only are we going to see the temperatures dropping, but the humidity drop and the storm chances drop as well. today upper 80s, low 90s, seasonably hot, a stray thunderstorm possibility. tomorrow scattered showers and storms. if you've got outdoor plans sunday don't cancel them but keep your wusa9 app on hand. you will be able to track the storms with our radar on there and also weather alerts get sent straight to ur up. monday turning cooler and less humid, 84 on monday, sunny, pleasant on tuesday and we will start to see temperatures warming back up again as we get into the rest of the workweek. mosquitoes with zika are biting folks in a new american city. this one, it's a big tourist spot. why health officials scott says there is now a second area of local zika transmission in the state. three men and two women contracted the virus in a 1 1/2 square mile of miami beach. th tourist area of south beach. two of the infected are residents. the other three are visitors. the cdc says breezes and high- rise buildings will make attacking zika in south beach very challenging. >> you also have high levels of wind which may blow some of the products that are applied and of course you have large numbers of people and getting people to wear long sleeved shirts and long pants there would be somewhat challenging. >> yeah, not in miami. the winwood neighborhood north of downtown miami was the first area where the virus was locally transmitted. these new cases bring florida's caseload to 36 infections, not related to travel outside the u.s. the cdc is now advising pregnant women to avoid both infection zones. the zika virus can cause devastating birth defect that leaves babies with small heads. taking a live look now outside at the beautiful lincoln memorial on this saturday morning, let's get over to melissa nord with our fo a little bit of a hazy look outside. you can kind of see how it's not a clear shot. it's a look off in the distance. but there is some haziness and that is a sign there's moisture trapped in the atmosphere. here it's causing a haze in d.c. but we've got some areas where it's actually formed into fog, all the moisture left in the atmosphere so over from luray, over to orange and down to the south of that, that's spots where the visibilities have dropped below a couple of miles. so just keep that in mind this morning. past about 9:00 not going to be a problem. we've got temperatures right now sitting in the 60s and 70s. 75 in town, in the suburbs we are down in the mid-60s which actually feels kind of nice outside. 66 manassas, leesburg, 68 degrees and we are heading for the 90s once again this afternoon. we have had a lot of 90-degree days so far this month and so far this year. we are finally getting to the end of it. 90-degree days in washington, we put them year by year. so far we have had 44 and then going all the way back to 2010 that was a hot summer, we had 67 days in d.c. where the temperature did make it above 90. the average is about 36 per summer so we are getting above that. weekend outlook, two more 90- degree days because we've got thunderstorms arriving tomorrow. that is a sign there are changes arriving temperaturewise along the cold front. so we are going to see the end of the 90-degree days, finally breaking. >> you think back to sandy, that had a big impact and this is just as bad. >> crazy they are all along the same lines because we all remember the images. heart breaking. now a look at the forecast for d.c. this weekend. when are we going to see the 80s, melissa? >> almost here. two more days, that is it, and then we have the 80s, low humidity, it's going to feel like a refreshing almost taste of fall. more like september weather than -- rather what we are dealing with in august. no 100-degree temperatures. i am not even seeing 100-degree heat indices in the forecast for the next few days, not even this weekend. i think the heat index values will stay below 100. 75 right now, you will notice there's a hazy look outside. haze is not just the haze, there's patchy fog which is mainly out to the west, closer to the shenandoah valley. temperatures sitting in the mid and upper 60s in a lot of our suburbs, around 70 in springfield, bowie right now 66 degrees, 68 showing up in andrews, marlboro as well and 69 right now in chevy chase. still going to be seasonably hot this weekend but nothing out of the ordinary for august. we get these typical heatwaves but the last of the heatwave is upon us. a cooldown arrives at the end of the workweek and sending temperatures well down into the 80s. but before the 80s arrive we will have thunderstorms to track tomorrow. we've got a cold front, the dividing line between the mild -- or, rather, hot, muggy air masses in place right now and there's cooler air coming down from canada behind this. that cooler air arrives here and that sends our temperatures down and humidity levels down into the workweek but before so we along the front to get through before the night's weather arrives. today we are still ahead of the front so not seeing great chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. keeping things isolated, just a stay storm and the best possibility of seeing the thunderstorms will be west of the i-80 corridor. temperatures are in the 70s and 60s but as we get the sun up, it doesn't take long before the temperatures are in the 80s. lunchtime today running into the upper 80s and climbing into the low 90s for highs this afternoon inside the city. we will see a couple of upper 80s showing up as well today and again this is about 5 degrees above average, but nothing too crazy. this afternoon futurecast we are going to stay quiet, a stray storm possibility but already tonight those changes with the front start to arrive. we are going to see clouds increasing and a spotty shower around tomorrow morning but the best chance of seeing storms tomorrow will arrive here midday throughout the afternoon and into the early evening hours. it's not going to be widespread to the point where you need to cancel your plans right now bu around, some of these will contain some locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds not out of the question as well. you will notice it's still around 6:00, we've got locally heavy rain but as we get past then to about 9:00, 10:00, the storms are out of here and the cooler air will follow. look at the drop-off in temperatures. 90s today, 90s tomorrow, but then we drop all the way down to the mid-80s and even some spots on tuesday and wednesday will be in the low 80s and the humidity levels, especially tuesday, will be just refreshing outside. going to be really low
