There are a lot of folks here who have a plan in place, and we can tell you this noontime that in fact there is a place for these folks to go. They will be heading to the adams day shelter off new york avenue. Not too far away from this former tent city, by union station. I say former, because take a look at the street. They are nearly clear. Advocates and several workers from city agencies are cleaning up the streets. Bagging up belongings. And they have been out here, for several hours. Throwing away trash. And now, district leaders decided to shut down the tent city because they tell us, one, it is illegal, and two, unsanitary. There were 14 tents and 12 adults leaving here. We are told their personal items were tagged and will be stored at adams day shelter for 30 days. Everyone here, we are also told, received notice that today i have been here for 10 years out here on the streets and i hope, you know, the social workers become compassionate and help put us in a group home, or put us, give us some type of shelter. Very painful to watch somebody experience homelessness and live on the streets and when you spent part of this effort and seeing people engage in services and recovery, and get back into housing, and their lives become transformed, there is nothing more magical than that. And back here live, on the scene, as the work continues, i can tell you, there are advocates who are working with the homeless, trying to pair them up with services. And this is quite the scene. Police in pittsburgh are looking for two gunmen after five people were shot and killed in a backyard cookout wednesday night. Officers tried to console the families while they were still investigating the shooting. Four people were found dead at the scene. A fifth victim died on the way to the hospital. Partygoers ran for their lives, when the shots started. They were all fleeing toward the back door of the residence when the second gunman fired from the side of the yard. And they all seemed to get caught on the back porch. And three other victims are in the hospital right now. Two of them are in critical condition. And police are still looking for suspects and a motive in this case. Dc residents are trying to figure out how to get the guns off city streets here so they can at least slow down the violence in the district. But that continues to be a tough job. Police were busy chas scenes overnight. Two shootings in southeast were just the beginning. Nick giovanni picks up the story from here. Peace and quiet. And then all of a sudden, gunfire rang out. And then this is like, about eight, nine shots, like somebody shot and somebody shot back. Reporter that was the scene along the 4700 block of benning road southeast early thursday morning. One of three scenes involving Violent Crimes across dc overnight. Police say two men were shot just before 1 00 a. M. And found right across the street from kit dc academy. Just a half mile away, a man was stabbed along the 4500 block of benning road northeast. Then this scene, of another shooting, at the intersection of fourth and atlantic street, southeast. Investigates are still ongoing in all three cases. But the victims in all three cases are expected to survive a violent night in the district. Im trying to get away from. The Dc Taxi Cab Commission has come up with a new app they hope will Better Connect customers with drivers but they admit it still wont fix everything. Larry miller has the story. The dc taxi cab app allows to you hail a taxi right from your phone. Now, while it is gaining traction around town, cabbies are hoping it drums up more business for them. If the passenger is able to get the service, able to push a button and get service and theyre happy with, it then weve done our job. The taxi cab chairman ernest chopper says the dc taxi cab app is about expanding the way taxis connect with others, not expanding competition. It is how many trips are done in a dial. The app allows a lale of the taxi near a location and give a the same price you would pay if you flagged down a taxi on the street.
