Chris martinez takes a look at which came out on top and which seats parents still want to avoid. Reporter 20 of the 22 booster seats new on the market this year are deemed a best bet by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Three were rated good bets. In this years booster ratings, there arent any seats we wouldnt recommend. Reporter the Nonprofit Research group tested both high back and backless seats measuring how well it fits a child in just about any vehicle. What were looking for is that the lap belt fits low across the top of the thighs and not riding up on the soft tummy and the shoulder belt needs to fit snuggley and shouldnt be riding up on the neck or face. Reporter the iihs recommends parents do their homework before making a purchase. We found booster seats from previous years, which are not recommended still for sale. The iihs is calling on manufacturers are six older models that are not recommended to stop making them, but if you have one, dont throw it out. Just get a new one as soon as possible. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says the best seats are not necessarily the most expensive. The group says there is one 2015 best bet seat that retails for just 15. Federal safety officials are shifting gears for the first time when it comes to installing seat belts in school buses. Statistics show four children die every year in large school bus crashes. The National Transportation safety board believes seat belts would cut that number in half. Lightning struck a 100yearold tree in one homeowners yard and the tree exploded sending it flying into surrounding homes. Several people had very close calls. She had just picked up a cup of coffee inside of this window here, turned and was headed to the back of the house when the lightning hit and the piece of the tree came through the window. It was unbelievable. I never heard a sound like that before. Another neighbor was out walking her dog when the lightning struck and sent a piece of a tree through a window and onto the bed where she had just been sleeping. Luckily, no such violent weather in our area, but we do have the rain even though you put away your umbrella for a while. That was a good sign. Its not as wet as it was this morning. Thats what we expect, mostly a morning event. Were just not in the clear yet. I would hang onto that umbrella until maybe this evening. Then well get rid of everything. However, another chance of rain before we get to the weekend. I dont think thursdays rain is going to make for such an ugly day that we have today. I mean, the visibility is low, the fog is here, and these eastnortheasterly winds and rain on and off. It is improving as we head through the afternoon, but we are going to see the showers stick around, especially for areas off to the north. On the radar, were not seeing much. Its very light and very low. Well get the mist and light rain right through reagan national. Its 50 degrees right there. Its hard to see the temperatures move too much until later on tonight when the skies clear. Well clear things out a little bit. This is what ive been mentioning. It looks like its all going to fade away and expand and produce a little more rain. This is why you just cant leave the umbrella at home for a few hours. Right through the beltway, we are dry for the most part but still the mist and drizzle and fog. Over here through leesburg heading up 270 near clocksburg clarksburg, light showers pushing off to the north. Most of the rain will stick around for that area for the most part. Areas east have been short changed built the dreary but the dreary weather is everywhere. North of myersville, near beaver creek, you have the heavier downpours pushing off to the north. By 6 00, still wet for some for the drive home. Its by 7 00 to 9 00 and definitely by midnight well finally be a little drier. Heres a look at the rainfall potential. Were looking at about a quarter of an inch additional for this afternoon, but most of this will be off to the north. As you head farther south and southeast its spottier. By 2 00, this does overdo it just a little bit, but i assure you, were going to see showers out here especially west of 95. If you are traveling to baltimore, you will see heavier pockets of rain. Once you head to 66, a little. South of 95, it will be spotty, but there will be showers to track. They will be light but will be out there for your drive home. By tomorrow morning, everything is gone for just a little bit, though. High pressure will briefly move on in. We do see sunshine for veterans day, perfect weather, the best day of the week is veterans day. Thats nice, too, to honor our veterans. A good mix of sun and clouds, but we stay dry. You can leave the umbrellas at home. However, you dont want to let the umbrellas go too far away from your reach. Well see another chance for rain on thursday. This one we start off cloudy and the winds are in the southwest and give us the fog and lowlying clouds. By 12 00, this will be a lot faster moving system and we get back to sunshine by friday.
