Phase. Peggy fox is live with more. Reporter this was an emotional scene in Court Moments ago when this verdict came down. A jury of eight men and four women confirming yes, guilty on all ten counts and the families of the victims erupted in tears. They hugged each other, cried. Theyve been waiting a long time. The Nancy Dunning family has been waiting 12 years for justice. On the other hand, Charles Severance sat emotionless as hes done throughout this trial. His parents also emotionless. Heres some video of mr. And mrs. Severance walking into the courthouse. They were summoned and told there was a verdict and they came from their home. Emotionless walking into court and emotionless as they sat there listening to the verdict that their son is guilty on all ten counts. Two of them capital murder charges and the other first degree murder. Lets take a look at the counts and run down them for you. The first count that was read, ruth anne lodato, guilty. Now, the first count is ruth anne lodato, who was killed in february of 2014, found dead in her home by her caretaker. Care take caretaker of her elderly mother. Thats what broke the se ope prosecutors said if Charles Severance didnt continue killing that Nancy Dunnings murder may have gone unsolved but because he started killing again in 2013, killing ron kirby right in his doorway and then again ruth anne lodato in her doorway, the three victims living in one square mile. But with that witness in the ruth anne lodato case seeing Charles Severance, hearing a shot, hearing a scream, oning to the running to the door. She testified that she looked up and saw this man and she identified Charles Severance in court. There was a problem with part of her testimony, in that she said it was a man who had a shorter beard and the defense tried to hone in on that saying it was the wrong man but the jury in the end believed that the witness had seen Charles Severance that day and thats what broke this case open. It gave police the clue that they needed, who to start looking for. They found Charles Severance and when they came to look for him, Charles Severance fled. First he fled to the Russian Embassy to seek asylum and then to wheeling, West Virginia and thats where he was captured. He was seen at a public library. The defense tried to point out he was doing research. This was all just jumping to conclusions that he just looked like the killer. But the jury didnt buy any of the defenses strategy. They believed the prosecution that this was a significant killing, Charles Severance killed because he was seeking revenge for losing the custody battle and losing his child in a custody battle and that he wanted to get back and he had a hatred for the alexandria elite. And the jury believed that and they have found Charles Severance guilty on all ten counts. The sentencing phase will be starting up very soon. Im peggy fox reporting live. Back to you.
