It looks like cars are moving at a pretty steady pace in the eastbound lanes of route 50 as drivers make their way to the maryland and delaware beaches. And as they do make their way around this holiday weekend, some drivers might be pleasantly surprised to see gas prices are lower than theyve been since 2010. Aaa says the average price at the pump is 3. 44 a gallon, down from last year. On one side of the bay bridge leaving the city, we found prices at 3. 29 a gallon. And on the side headed back towards the district, it was only 3. 32. Good news. And drivers were definitely filling up this morning thankful for the relief. I think any time youre around the bay bridge, theres always a lot of traveling around the holidays. Living around here, i try to stay at home during the holidays. Traffic around here gets pretty bad. Reporter you think these prices are going to help you . Most definitely. Most definitely. Especially more money in my pocket. More money to spend on my wife, i guess. Nice thing to do. Anest plated 800,000 people from our area will be hitting the road this holiday weekend. The cheaper gas will give them a little more spending money for themselves or a nice spouse. Turning now to other other top story, the corruption trial of former Virginia GovernorBob Mcdonnell and his wife, maureen. Prosecutors are questioning the motives of the couple as they presented their final arguments to the jury this morning. Peggy fox is live at the federal courthouse in richmond with more. Hi, peggy. Reporter hey, andrea. Well, prosecutor David Harbaugh spent two and a half hours delivering a strong closing argument. This is what he told the jury at the very end. This investigation did not happen just because he was governor. He said it happened because what he did was wrong. He told the jury, dont sit there and let him stand on the coattails of Thomas Jefferson and patrick henry. This is corruption. This is bribery. Dont let it stand. Now the governor walked in about 9 30 this morning and since the closing arguments started, he went over all of the gifts Jonnie Williams gave to Bob Mcdonnell and he asked the jury, why did Bob Mcdonnell take these things, 177,000 in gifts and loans. Harbaugh said it was bribery and Bob Mcdonnell knew it. What fuels that are the lengths they went to hide it. The 20,000 shopping trip Bob Mcdonnell says he didnt know about that Jonnie Williams paid for for his wife, 50,000 loans to both Bob Mcdonnell and maureen. You know, also those golf clubs and golf outings that Bob Mcdonnell did not report on Public Disclosure forms and he told his son to give back the golf bag he received from Jonnie Williams. Harbaugh said Bob Mcdonnell cant have it both ways. You cant buy the excessive for his son to have the golf bag and then you keep it. The people whose job it was to keep them on the straight and narrow were kept in the dark, he said. He didnt tell his staff or report the money on the things he was given because he knew the deal with jonnie was dirty. Heres what Bob Mcdonnell said this morning going to court. I feel g. You dont want to give that to your child. Another thing thats really important is dont use it as a punishment. You want them to like going to the dentist, for something thats fun for them that theyll do for a lifetime. And keep the dental hygiene up. Youve been on the show many times before and talked about the importance of good dental hygiene. It could be a life saver. Absolutely. It definitely can. Its really important to brush for two whole minutes twice a day and its important to floss as soon as your kids teeth touch each other. Its important to start flossing their teeth. You can tell about other parts of the bodys health with your gum and teeth health. Absolutely. Especially with your gums, if theyre bleeding, theres definitely something going on and you want to check it out and see whats going on. How often should your child go to the dent . Is. Every six months but it depends on your child and the dentist you go to. And you need to talk to them about this great experience. And how great they did after they go. Maybe get them a prize, positive reinforcement. Talk about how wonderful they were. Talk about it the whole six months till they have to go again so they get excited about going. Down to 80 at 6 00 and were down into the mid70s by 9 00 but we still have that sunshine. So a few clouds right now at reagan national. Current temperature is 77 but the dew point is only 51 so we have a nice comfortable relative humidity of 40 and the winds are calm. So its just really comfortable to be outside. There isnt really anything going on weather wise. Look at these cool, comfortable temperatures. Right now 75 in reston. 74 in springfield. 57 in waldorf and 73 in andrews. Nothing going on. We have High Pressure in control. It is to the north of us right now just barely, though. Thats why the winds are calm. When youre at the center of children, you generally have the really calm winds. The drier air stays in place through tonight and then were going to see the cloud cover increase and the increase in humidity as the winds become southeasterly during the afternoon tomorrow. Were going to see that humidity start to increase as we head into the afternoon as well and thats going to lead to some isolated thunderstorms. I dont think any of these will make it into the beltway but we will see a line of thunderstorms west of i81. Sunday a different story. The humidity is locked in. Were going to see hot weather moving in on sunday as well. And with an approaching cold front, some thunderstorms could fire up by as early as about 1 00. Definitely seeing more scattered thunderstorms, especially north and west of the beltway as we head toward 5 00. So that barbecue might be in jeopardy on sunday and again on monday. The slow moving frontal system will not clear out of here until probably tuesday. Forecast highs for today, enjoy today because its the last really gorgeous day were going to have in a while. 81 degrees in leesburg and manassas. 80 martinsburg. 83 in Downtown Washington. Forecast lows tonight, down into the mid60s in town, but well dip down to about 60 degrees for most of the northern and western suburbs. So it will be another pleasant night. A chance for a thunderstorm, especially west of the metro area. And then sunday scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon for just about all of us and a high of 92 degrees.
