atlanta. >> dulles international airport one of five airports in this country that will be putting some passengers through additional screenings to hopefully prevent ebola from spreading. the white house made the announcement today as we learned the man with the first confirmed case in america has died. thomas eric duncan traveled here from liberia september 20th. he entered the u.s. through dulles before going to dallas. the white house backed increased screening just about everyone who would travel through ebola stricken areas would pass through one of these five airports. >> as soon as this weekend at jfk and a little later at the other airports here's what you can expect. >> reporter: i'm bruce leshan at dulles. enhanced screening for ebola slated to begin here next week. customs officers will lead passengers from west africa into a separate room. they will question them. they will check their temperatures with a device like this and they will observe them for sign of ebola. passengers leaving liberia, guinea and sierra leone are already supposed to be questioned before departure and to have their temperatures checked with a remote sensor. now they will be checked again when they arrive at dulles. federal officials have been considering for weeks what additional measures they could take, but warn that the only sure way to prevent new ebola cases in the u.s. is to stop the disease's spread in africa. if the passengers have any kind of signs or symptoms of ebola, it will be up to the cdc to determine if they need to be hospitalized right then, turned over to local health officials here for more monitoring or allowed to continue traveling. at dulles bruce leshan, wusa9. >> the cdc is warning no system is foolproof and when thomas duncan traveled through dulles, he wasn't showing any symptoms. so even the enhanced screening may not have picked up the ebola that was incubating in his body. meantime that ebola virus now responsible indirectly at least for the death of a dog. his name is ex caliber. he belonged to the nurse's aide who was first to contract ebola outside africa. hundreds of thousands of folks signed an online petition to save the dog's life, but officials in spain cited public health concerns and a scientific study that indicates dogs could transmit the dogs to people. so they decided to euthanize the dog. the saddest thing is student hannah graham and they brought out a new tool that was a helicopter from department of homeland security. >> today's search yielded no results. debra alfarone joins us from charlottesville from the area where the 18-year-old sophomore disappeared. >> reporter: every day searchers head out to scour the area that's an 8-mile radius from the downtown mall in charlottesville. today's search was no different. >> are we going right or left? >> clever way we can get around the gate. >> i'm -- whichever way we can get around the gate. >> i'm a mother, so if it was my child out there, i'd want everybody out looking, too. >> reporter: the beautiful rolling hills and calm of the horses in sharp contrast to the grim task ahead on this 25th day. >> we can cover more ground, get into areas. we have a higher advantage looking down. so it's just another tool to use for search and rescue. >> reporter: today's search brought out retired nurse brenda saunders of piedmont search and rescue out of richmond. up to 50 searchers on foot, atv, in the air scoured this corner, too and thursday searchers get a boost, the result of last weekend's playover with a special high resolution camera provided by bae systems is almost here. >> once we get that data and go through it our hope is that we will see things through this we have not been able to see before. >> reporter: one section searched today panorama farm. >> it's a tough job. >> reporter: steve murray owns it. >> i expect that she'll be found, but still they've searched a long time and haven't found anything. i'm sure that is the class kids foundation. members came here to train volunteers how to properly organize the search for missing montgomery county kids say and -- sarah and jacob hoggle. the group's founder lost his own daughter to a murder and kidnapping and told us via skype this is his way of paying it forward. >> it's a horrible situation because i know from experience that you need to have finality. you an update on the d.c. prisoner found with a gun in his underwear in the central cell block at d.c. superior court yesterday, today the 19- year-old was charged with an unregistered firearm and ammunition. a status hearing was set for november 7th. he was let go. investigators are trying to figure out how officers failed to find that loaded gun during several earlier patdowns. assisted suicide is back in the national spotlight tonight after a 29-year-old woman diagnosed with brain cancer announced to the world that she's planning her own death november 1st. her emotional and controversial video has gone viral. >> i can't even tell you the amount of relief that it provides me to know that i don't have to die the way that it's been described to me that my brain tumor would take me. >> brittany maynard's story has a lot of people talking and it could change the national debate on the issue. >> reporter: brittany maynard's video went up on youtube only monday, already nearly 3 million have watched. >> i was diagnosed with cancer and told i was terminally ill. >> reporter: at age 29 and terminally ill maynard moved from california to oregon where assisted suicide is legal reopening a debate with a new face much different than old images of dr. jack kevorkian. >> i went from having potentially years to being told i have like six months. >> anyone could look at her and say that could be me. >> reporter: maryland delegate heather mizeur proposed death with dignity during her recent primary run for governor. >> brittany is helping transition this issue from a radical concept to one i think will be mainstream very soon. >> from the church's standpoint it doesn't change the debate. >> reporter: but at the archdiocese of washington a new face and heartwrenching circumstances do not change the fundamental issue. >> our view on human dignity is consistent from the beginning to the end and that's not to be diminished. we cannot do anything against that dignity and purposefully end a life that has infinite value. >> reporter: mizeur says neither maynard nor anyone else should ever have to move away to have death on their own terms. >> putting a face on this issue and not having it be an academic exercise but being able to relate to the personal story that brittany and her family are going through raises serious issues why every state needs to take up this law. >> and i will die upstairs in my bedroom that i share with my husband with my mother and my husband by my side. >> reporter: scott broom, wusa9. >> she seems so young. you can see why this has so much controversy. laws in our region vary wide we. assisted suicide death in maryland -- widely. assisted suicide death in maryland is a felony. the punishment in d.c. is >> [ laughter ] >> the 5s. i got rid of my blackberry a few years ago. >> gave it to the museum? >> i still can't time as fast. >> i agree. 80 degrees the high today and a gorgeous start this morning for the blood moon. hope you guys had a chance to see it. take a live look outside, this is the moon tonight. look at the rays over the water. isn't that nice. let's start with a live look outside, our live michael and son weather cam. temperatures still 75, still pretty darn mild and the relative humidity is very low, almost like desert air, 31%. there is the blood moon this morning. jim sent this in from bowie, a spectacular picture. i gave him an a plus for that. tonight cooler, open the windows, perhaps not too far because we're talking 40s and 50s. bus stop temperatures 45 to 62. a sweater is probably a good idea or sweatshirt for the kids. nice tomorrow, cooler. 80 today was a bit above average, tomorrow low 70s which actually is average and then clouds return on friday. there could be showers on friday, but essentially i'm not really this concerned about friday at this point. i think the showers hold off till late in the day and generally light. we've not issued a yellow alert yet. 10:30 tonight 50s in the burbs, gaithersburg 56, 54 downtown, 57 in manassas. by tomorrow morning a different story. it was kind of mild today, different story tomorrow, 40s to start, mid-50s downtown at 6:00 and by 8:00 still 40s and 50s. by 12:30, 1:00, a few high clouds begin to stream in. we're in the 60s. notice the clouds back to the west. we'll have high and midlevel clouds come in tomorrow, still a nice day. by 4:00 it's 71 downtown, 66 in gaithersburg, 69 in leesburg and manassas and 71 in la plata. there could be a couple showers toward oakland. i think this may be a bit overdone with a shower in winchester. in the mountains i do see a shower. 6:00 clouds everywhere, 60s but dry. tomorrow night 8:00 upper 50s to low 60s but dry, no shortageful clouds and by 10:00 tomorrow again upper 50s to low 60s. the clouds tomorrow will keep temperatures up a bit. tonight clear and much cooler, 45 to 55, winds westerly at 10. the winds have calmed down. the day planner, remember these are downtown temps, so subtract 10 if you're in the burbs, 54 at 7:00, 58 at 9:00, 65 at 11:00 and 70 by 1:00, pretty much pure sun till 1:00, then some clouds but still nice tomorrow. showers friday mainly late, best chance is showers friday night, 69 for the high friday. saturday i may have to add showers early, temperature about 68 as well. right now sunday still looks okay. all models are not in agreement, but we'll say 70. columbus day showers, mid-70s and showers tuesday, also mid- 70s, so again the o's come back into town, could be shower tomorrow night before the game, mt how "7 th heaven" dad stephen collins is responding to the child molestation claims. >> cops rustohed his home fearing he might have killed himself. should he be on suicide watch?
